    • Whether it’s open bow boats which can swamp, timing turns in the swells so you don’t capsize or watching every direction all the time for careless speed boats, it all looks disastrous. FYI, I used to race 30-40 ft sailboats. Hell, you can break your neck at 0-5 knots if you do stupid crap. In fact in Galveston Bay once a long time ago, we ran right over a kayaker who was out watching the race. The empty kayak just squirted out at the side. Probably after it hit the keel. We found the kayaker and pulled him on the boat and his kayak too. He was shaken and looked like an old drowned rat. We gave him a beer and let him sit with us while we continued the race. Eventually, we put him back in his boat and sent on his way. The problem was that he was a long way off shore and not watching where he was going. No way would we have seen him. Too small. Too much going on. It was only kind of hilarious because no one was injured.

      @andrewbeattieRAB@andrewbeattieRAB Жыл бұрын
    • @@andrewbeattieRAB I've also raced in/on everything from Lasers to 40'+ sailboats and one of the first things you learn is keep people away or off the bow because that is the least buoyant part of the boat (apparently something that most stinkpotters don't have a clue about), not to mention it is also the place on a boat that moves around a lot, which is why most sailboat racing crews have the lightest, most nimble people working the fore-deck (and the rest of the crew is usually yelling at them to hurry up and get off the bow because they are slowing the boat down). After World Class sailor Larry Klein drowned in 1994 I bought and always wore an inflatable harness every time I left the dock for a race or pleasure sail. Anyone that ever crewed on my Lightning Class sailboat were always told to bring a good properly fitting life jacket with them when we went out on the boat, whether for practice or a regatta. The other thing that many of the stinkpotters in these videos don't appear to have a clue about is tide tables and weather conditions. An outgoing tide and a strong easterly or the afternoon sea breeze is going to make that inlet rough and unless there is a real good reason to go out at those times the smart captain will stay tied up at the dock or do a sightseeing trip in the other direction.

  • I have to say that I am very impressed with the pilot of the little SeaRay Sundeck (blue and white). On this channel alone, I have seen MANY bow riders with that design either sink, or come very close to it, and in lighter waters. Other then the "spine cruncher" at the end, the pilot of that boat did a great job navigating those waters and not even close to a stuffing. 🔥🌟. Awesome to see that there ARE knowledgeable people, as few as I've seen.😳 BTW, THANK YOU BOATZONE for making videos. Maybe it brings back memories. But your videos are almost addictive and I find myself watching more boating then anything else. So thank you for many hours of watching some good boatings and other times, I'm yelling at the screen, trying to coach the pilots as they're presented. Please never stop making these simple but excellent videos (by simple I mean that they have easy to watch content, but I understand how much work goes into your videos, so please understand that I meant no disrespect. Like I said, I love to watch and remember when I was ripping around Buckhorn Lake in a 21' Charger with a 200hp Mercury on the back. Back then (and for skiing purposes) the 200 HP on a flat bottom boat, like a Charger or JCraft was the ultimate in speed, other then a 16foot J Craft with a 454 big block that used to scream around the lake. That thing would've pulled you right out of your skies!lmao😂🦡🙏🙏🙏

Every year we needlessly lose a passel of people to the water. On the average, 85% are not wearing proper floatation. A.a.and, of the rest who perish, 85% of those have alcohol running in their veins. Wear hi-float vests and stay sober, stay within reasonable limits of your training & experience and common sense, and you'll probably live a long time on the water. JDA & KJA "Stayin' Alive!"

  • Honest question for the experienced captains in here. Why do some of these captains, especially in the smaller boats, get right into the worst of it and THEN turn around? Like at 3:30. Wouldn't that be about the worst place to turn? And couldn't you just proceed a bit slower if it's too rough for your small boat and passengers to take at higher speed? I do wonder if his passenger might've been hurt there around 3:25 or so, maybe that's why he decided to turn back. I'm a rookie captain myself, albeit in Thailand, but trying to soak up knowledge to keep myself and my friends/family safe out on my boat. Thanks in advance!

    • They are not Boat owners, they rented the boat for a few hours, that is why their lack of common sense is so apparent. They are just out for a thrill ride.

  • Interesting to note that the small boats turning around are not turning around because the driver wants to get a bigger boat.

  • I’m blown away at how many people completely ignore the capacity placard of their boats and load it with as many people as they can fit, then go through a rough water lane such as this and not a single life jacket on anyone. It’s not a cool look, it’s a display of ignorance in my opinion.

  • Not a boater at all, but my question is: are these boat hulls all strong enough to take these big hits after catching air without any damage?

    @Jaybo454@Jaybo454 Жыл бұрын
    • I would say not all of them even if the damage is not apparent. I'd certainly have any boat I owned checked out by a competent yard if I owned a boat that had been out in those conditions.
