  • I seriously miss watch Federer live. He won't go down as the goat, but he truly was the most gifted player the sport has ever seen and really was the Messi of the tennis world. People also forget that he's 5 and 6 years older than Rafa and Novak, so naturally peaked at a different time than them as he's a different generation. It would have been fascinating to see if they were all in their prime at the exact same time. I feel on clay Rafa would usually win, on the quicker surfaces Federer would usually win and on slower hard courts Novak would usually win. You really can't call yourself a proper tennis fan if you insult any of these three and try to downplay what they achieved and what they did for the sport.

    • A great comment. You're one of the very few tennis fans nowadays who actually appreciate and understand the game, not just a pathetic and toxic worshipper idolizing a certain tennis player. As a fellow tennis fan who used to be a ride-or-die fan of Federer and then admired Nadal's heavy topspin forehand and physical game for a few years and then lastly couldn't help but respect Novak's tenacity and grit starting in 2011, I came to fully appreciate a wide range or spectrum of playing styles as demonstrated by the big 3. And then also became a fan of Murray at one point as well.

  • The problem with Federer, he had so much success on extremely fast courts between 2000-2008 and then everything slowed up. They even slowed Wimbledon up to give baseliners a chance.. Roger had to adapt his game.. using a smaller racquet size to a larger one, to help with longer rally’s. people forget his style was never based on playing 30 shot rally’s because of the era he started playing.. yet he adapted and won more slams.

    @Tommytoolsqueezer@Tommytoolsqueezer Жыл бұрын
    • This actually isn't true. Courts were slowed before federer started winning. It's more likely he slowed down than the courts, which ended up having the same effect, the necessity for longer rallies in tougher games, making it harder to win the big games in his 30+ years

But he could have been a undisputed GOAT if: he had retired with 16 slams finally breaking through pete's record and would be revered as GOAT with most slams so no more records to break. he had retired with 17 slams in 2012 he would be revered as GOAT with most slams and also he ran through the unstoppable Novak in 2012. he had retired with 20 slams in 2018 he would be regarded as the GOAT with most slams and also the oldest player to win a slam. he converted the 40-15 in wimbledon 2019, he would be regarded as the GOAT not only with most slams but defeating the two top players who were 6 years younger than him and also the oldest man to win a slam. The fact that he is not called the GOAT any longer is that his records broke by two people when he was still on tour and that made some people look down on his records, but even non tennis fans know that most athletes in these kinds of sport retires at much early age. Sampras retired at 32, Agassi retired at 36, not to mention people who came after Roger federer have already been retired and some are struggling in challenger tournaments sad to say but player like verdasco is one of them, but in that age where people give up their pro life, he made a short work of the whole today's generation also Nadal and Novak, ya records wise Novak will be the undisputed GOAT but let's see how he plays when he's as the same age as Roger at the age to 38, coz the bar Roger rose is too high age wise standards also he got to QF of slam at nearly 41 years of age with an injured knee.

Djokovic beat Federer when he was 26 at the Australian Open in 2008, when he was 29 at the 2010 US Open and 2011 Australian Open, and 30 year old Federer at the 2011 US Open. In other words, Djokovic was beating prime Federer, long before he was 33/34. Also ,Federer still won 3 grand slams AFTER turning 33. Pete Sampras stopped playing when he was 31 and Agassi's last slam win was when he was 32. Hence Federer after 33 was a MUCH better player than both Sampras and Agassi. There's no hypocracy at all. You're just cherry picking and leaving out A LOT of context.

Lol 😂 Is Nadal 2005-2007 stronger than Alcaraz today? Absolutely it’s not debatable especially on clay and even on grass since peak Federer that Nadal had to go through at Wimbledon is more competitive than Alcaraz beating 36 year old Djokovic in Wimbledon final where we all know peak 20s Federer is better than mid 30s Djokovic at Wimbledon competition wise. The hypocrisy is to call 33-34 year old Agassi in 2004 and 2005 us open weak but not Federer in Wimbledon finals at the same age even 38 year old Federer in 2019 lol 😂 the logic contradicts everything Novak gets credit for beating Federer aged 33-38 in Wimbledon finals but Federer no credit for beating 33-34 year old top 10 and 8 grand slam winner Agassi at us open. Djokovic somehow gets credit for beating 20 year old Alcaraz at RG but somehow Federer gets no credit for beating Nadal at Wimbledon final 2006 and 2007 at the same age lol 😂 the hypocrisy here is unbelievable. Even the next gen like tsitsipas and medvedev and zverev gets more respect than prime Roddick and Safin where both those guys achieved more in their career than any of the next gen. The irony lol 😂 Weak era somehow only applies to Federer in 2004-2007 but not to Djokovic in 2018-2023 even 2015-2016 with worst version of Nadal and older out of prime Federer is significantly weaker than golden era 2008-2013

    • @@dewman7477 Also, it's not hypocritical to call 2014-2020 Federer a better player than 2003-2005 Agassi. It's fact. After Agassi won the 2003 AO, which was before his 33rd birthday mind you and was early in the season before Federer had even won his first grand slam title, he only reached one grand slam final in 9 grand slam appearances, and didn't win another slam. Federer from 2014-2020 reached 7 grand slam finals including winning 3 grand slams. That's more grand slam finals in the latter stages of his career than Jim Courier reached in his entire career, and only 1 less grand slam title. In other words, Federer was still an all-time great in his later years alone. Agassi at best was just a top 10 player. Nadal also wasn't the same player from 2004-2007 as he was from 2008-2013. Nadal was just a rookie in 2004 and from 2005-2007 he was only winning the French Open on clay. He hadn't yet proven himself on hard and grass courts. Sure, going 5 sets at the Wimbledon finals in 2007 was good, but Andy Roddick also took Federer to 5 sets in the 2009 Wimbledon finals, and Roddick only won 1 grand slam his entire career.
