  • So today I went to an airshow in Greece and I was wearing the "I'm a cat person" shirt. First memorable thing was going to the USAF booth and the pilots there saying "hey you watch Growling Sidewinder too!" Second was walking past a little kid, must've been like 11 or 12 years old, and he read the shirt and laughed and was like "oh because it's a Tomcat, cool!" and that made me happy.

After watching so many DCS video's it felt very cramped and small in the cockpit, but it was such an amazing experience. Also got to walk on the top of the Eagle, weird but exciting......having flown Cessna's and Piper's and today sitting in the cockpit, I can't really imagine the work load and feelings these guys must have in a real engagement. • Today I took my 6-year-old to the Canadian International Air Show in Toronto, Canada. This was his first air show. My parents took me for the first time when I was around the same age which helped spawn my passion for all things planes. Being able to do the same for my son has made today very memorable. GS, your channel has helped me share my love for fighter planes (WWII to Gen 5) with my son. Today he got to see his first CF-18, P-51 and F-35 in real life. We can’t forget the incredible Snow Birds! For some reason the CC-150J Herc was his favourite… Go figure… The look on his face and the excitement he had when they went screaming overhead was all I could have hoped for. Thanks for your exceptional content and helping to pass my love for planes to my little man. Cheers.

    @michaelfrench3396@michaelfrench33962 жыл бұрын
    • I think the backup cable system is extra weight and besides it wasn't meant to take heavy damage and still be able to rtb

      @ishanpatel6742@ishanpatel67422 жыл бұрын
    • 2nd shot took out the engine starting a fire and exacerbating the spin. 1st hit I assume is modeled in the video game as hitting a hydraulic related component causing a leak which took a while to fully fail, when he departed it look like it locked out full rudder input, assuming the fluid/pressure was fully gone at that point. Flankers are fly by wire, not hydromechanical.

      @williamkillingsworth2619@williamkillingsworth26192 жыл бұрын
    • I can’t see how having both for redundancy would work, the whole point of fly-by-wire is that the computer adjusts the flight control surfaces depending on what the pilot requests, but still keeping it within the limits of the aircraft depending on external properties. Having direct connection to the control surfaces kinda negates that

      @metalmad89@metalmad892 жыл бұрын
    • AFAIK fighters generally dont have actual cables. The flight controls have to be irreversible. There are hydromechanical with CAS systems, then fully digital fly by wire, but neither directly physically connects the stick/rudders to the control surfaces. Of course someone will point out an exception, of which there are many, Im sure. I speak generally.

    • The flanker doesn't have a hydraulic system, it has local hydraulic actuators, say two for a left aileron, and one for the right elevator (pulled the number of actuators out of my ass, dont quote me on them). This is done so that it can survive hits, but more importantly, the flanker's aerodynamic scheme is statically unstable, meaning it requires a fly-by-wire system to constantly correct the jet for instability. In summary, idk why the DCS devs decided to use that line, but it actually has very little to do with the real jet.

  • Do you ever decrease throttle in a dogfight and for what reason? Other than maybe to force an overshoot?

    @HawksVideoNest@HawksVideoNest2 жыл бұрын
    • When you are going down vertically it is optimal to decrease throttle so you can be a little slower and have more control/less g's
