Not to diminish Rudy’s achievements but DPOY and all other awards is an individual achievement. There shouldn’t be any team stat influence in it. Stat by stat, Wemby has more so it makes sense that he gets it; even in games, you see how much influence he has against opponents and it’s way more noticeable than Rudy’s.
If the Wolves win a championship this year, they’ll have no choice but to put this man in the top 100 list in 20 years. Guaranteed hall of famer too

Rudy is an amazing defensive player but he doesn't do anything better than Wemby defensively, as good as he is. The wolves are a top defensive team even without him, that's why their #1 ranked on Defense. If you swap their teams (rudy and wemby), would you still give Gobert the Individual DPOY award while he's playing for the spurs while putting the same defensive numbers he is now? No you wouldn't, which proves the point, the award is being given to the best team, not defensive player.
you just have no idea of what defense means in basketball which is ok, most people didn't care about defense before Wemby, but just looking at the block isn't enough. Also Wolves before Rudy : 24th defense in the league, Wolves with Rudy : best defense by far in the league... And look at the advanced stats you'll be surprised

Wolves, even without Rudy are the top defensive team so he didn't make them the best defensive team like you're claiming, Wemby alters almost every single shot near him, stops 3/2 on 1s, constantly, and have a menacing defense presence, its more than numbers reflecting in the stat sheets (which he does better anways). But what would a non hooper know lol Would u give Rudy the award if he did the same thing but played for spurs? No, you wouldn't, case closed. it was awarded to the best defensive team.

Rudy held opponents to the lowest field goal% under 6 ft and is the best positioned center in the league. Rudy deters ppl, and thats just as valuable as blocked shots.

I'm sorry. I really am. This is no disrespect to Gobert. But there is zero reason he should have won it this year. Anthony Davis had better stats in nearly every category. To give someone it 4 times especially when the majority of his career he's benched in playoffs particularly during clippers series when he was so bad defensively he was a actual liability out there that they had to bench him. I think he's talented and shown he can be obviously a talented defender. But he can't guard 1 through 5. Basically only 5 and at the rim and theres matchups where he gets benched in. I'm sorry but it's absurd
he was by far the player who got the most influence on defense for his team, take a look to the defensive efficiency of the wolves you will see. Maybe AD can guard all 5 position, but the Lakers sucks defensively this season.
