  • 2/15/2022 USA Grandpa Bill: Carly, the thing I notice is the delicacy of your vision. Your mind is able to see what most of us yet can't. Your development as an artist is profound compared to most of us. Fifty years ago as a traditionally trained architectural draftsman using 6h, 4h, 2h, pencils on vellum, I loved seeing the plans develop from faint to dark as if they rose from nothing to visibility on the paper. That's the closest I can get to see what you do. The wisps you create to form wonderful images are as elegant as the blossoming of our finest flowers. This is your innate talent, and each of us has some gift. I admire your doing, but I have to be satisfied with my gift which is a bit more coarse, heavy-handed, blunt. Thank you so much for your graciousness in sharing your talent and accomplishment. It's a real treat.

  • Am going back and watching your videos. Tigers are kind of my thing, we even own a roofing company named Tiger Roofing. Your progress from the 1st to 2nd tiger was superb. I am fairly new on my own artistic journey but I can see that I have been afraid to make my values as contrasted as yours when that is what makes your work so breathtaking. I live in Alaska and geographically we are miles apart but I feel a kinship with you through the pieces you are sharing with us here on utube. So much love and respect from AK-- Danielle 💋❤️

Just simple things that make so much sense and I love it. Your video is informative, creative, and inspiring and I am so happy that I found it. • @@carlyrenee. Just joking! I was just being totally sarcastic and a wise ass. I'm American. Everything else I said was sincere. I have a long way to go and experiment with abstract art using pens more than pencils. However, I hope to draw Rhinos and other animals with much more practice in the next year. Rather than Photorealism I prefer and celebrate the imperfections of an artists work and the long road taken instead of shortcuts. There is a lot to knowledge to gain though by photorealism techniques such as in your videos. I am having a difficult time in Korea finding the silly puddy type kneading eraser and certain brands of Charcoal and graphite pencils here. Love your videos and you explain things well.

  • very helpfull advice. generals charcoal is wonderfull stuff, if you can find some of their jumbo willow sticks. i highly advice you try it. deepest value ive found yet in the natural charcoal dept. plus its great to layin almost the full range of value while still being able to adjust as per natural charcoal. not crumbly brital stuff. i have sticks sharpened to points and used sticks right down to nothing with no probs. for blending, my go to is Pipe Lagging Insulation Foam - 15mm x 25mm x 2m most hardware suppliers sell it. dont get thinner than this as its way to flimsey. this stuff is quite unique plus it doesnt degrade the tool or the paper even after really scrubbing the paper.

  • Hi Carly. I work in graphite and to make graphite powder I first put a block into a bag and use a hammer to brake it into smaller chunks, it can then be put in a pepper grinder and be ground up or ground directly onto the paper. I have also used an old NutriBullet to do this as well, both ways are quick and don't make a mess. Hope this is helpful. 😊
