  • One of the most beauitful! I love the way Vivaldi builds up the music, and the way he matches the Violins with the Harpsichord as the music goes higher and higher, what a genius he is!

    • You know the harpsichord is completely improvised? The skill of the player is in creating a sound with the harpsichord that matches and accentuates the phrases and rhythms of the violins, the glue that binds it all together.

  • I love the passionate playing! I remember being little and when I first heard classical music I dismissed it. No interest in it. Then so saw live and saw musicians getting so into the music! Then I decided to start playing and let me tell you classical music is such a wonderful world to be a part of. I just love to see players who you can tell by listening and by watching that they just love what they do.

  • The Berlin Philharmonic has long been one of the world's greatest orchestras, if not the greatest ! And Herbert von Karajan honed their sound to a level of sheer perfection that more or less killed classical music stone dead for almost a generation ! The "Karajan Sound" did approach perfection in the repertoire that it suited. But, oddly enough, Karajan had always had a strong interest in Baroque music, not that his "style" suited Baroque music at all. But, over the years, his style also changed. He never got as far as "original instruments" but he did get to much smaller orchestras and quite fiery sound. The Berlin Philharmonic, fabulous instrumentalists to a man, seemed to take to this and there has been quite a strong - and exciting- Baroque element to their programmes recently. This superb concert with Andrea Marcon seems to be in that pattern. I certainly don't think Karajan would be turning in his grave to hear "his boys" playing in this style, I think he would be thrilled. After all, there is more to life than Richard Strauss, Anton Bruckner and Richard Wagner and its mastery of the Baroque style simply confirms the Berlin Philharmonic's continuing place at the pinnacle.

    • I second you here. The greatest contribution was perhaps by Herbert Von Karajan followed by Claudio Abbado and Wilhelm Furtwangler. Karajan recorded Beethoven's 8 times each time a new medium came out but could not before BlueRay came. I've listened to symphony 9 directed by so conductors none can match his interpretation and conduction. And none match the character of Beethoven as much as Karajan rendering. The Berliner Philharmoniker has been with him 35 years and most instrumentalist around years. They also have a smaller hall whose inauguration was crowned by Vivaldi's four seasons with Karajan conducting from the Harpsichord.

    • Karajan's version of Handels' Op. 6 Concerti grossi is one of my favorites. I love period instruments, too; it's just that Karajan found something wonderful in this music.
