In the year of 1992 we find Madonna at her most artistically and lyrically potent during the Erotica era. I will never forgive the media and the American public for destroying this masterpiece and shaming her for her artistic vision and sexuality. This album and era would still be ahead of It's time If It were released today. If there Is ever any doubt that Madonna Is the greatest woman music artist of all time, just listen to Like a Prayer (1989), I'm Breathless (1990), Erotica (1992), Ray of Light (1998), and Confessions On a Dancefloor (2005), and do a deep dive Into those eras, as well as the mythos and Iconography that surround them. No other woman comes close to her full breadth of artistry. Her most formidable contemporaries, Prince and Michael Jackson (both of whom I worship), ran out of creative steam and artistic relevancy after the 80s, whereas Madonna was just getting started. Putting aside her public persona and all of her shenanigans, she Is truly a treasure. Madonna Is a poet, creative visionary, a brilliant vocalist, masterful songwriter, artistic genius, the last of the originals and the most pioneering female entertainer and auteur of all time. I will include all of her eras... I wasn't that much into Erotica as the songs didn't resonated with me but after listening to the album in more detail I have learned to appreciate it and I play it non-stop almost everyday. I think Madame X was ahead of 2019 and is highly underrated, someone has to be very cultured to understand the intricacies and the detailed sounds of that record. To me one of her best

Bad Girl. One of Madonna's bleakest and darkest songs with no light in sight. Rarely does she write songs where there's no positive messages. BADGIRL is deep sadness and agonizing pain that slowly drips into all facets of one's life. Absolutely loved the celebration performance with Mercy James.

Without even telling a word Christopher Walken's performance is outstanding. His mute character is almost an Angel of Death but also is the ghost of Madonna's character love of her life. David Fincher made a superb work with this video, so attached to the lyrics of the song and telled in a very sophisticated visual style.

When I was 15 years old I bought the album "Erotica" with my savings. And the first times I listened to it, I didn't really understand the meaning of some songs. Already as an adult I realize that Madonna always told us about topics that were forbidden and that today there is a lot of information about them. "Bad Girl" tells of a woman involved in a toxic relationship who seeks to distract herself from her reality through debauchery and self-destructive behavior. There is no doubt that Madonna has always been ahead of time.
That's interesting I always read it as I had no relationship so I was self destructive this was such an important album for me growing up as a young gay man I think it's one of her best albums
I always interpreted as someone who was guilty of hooking up knowing that they were in a relationship or had someone else. I also can see the video/song has someone who is depressed and distracts themself with hookups. Unfortunately it ends bad for her in both interpretations

The video shows no evidence she has “A” man, that she was in a toxic relationship. This is a cautionary tale. This is about a woman who is single, self-centered, and sexually promiscuous. A workaholic whose lifestyle makes her miserable (hence why she drinks so much). All these things were said about Madonna at the time: she was a man eater, she slept with every man, she was a workaholic, she would end up tragically (just like Louise Ciccone in the video). She gave the world a version of what the press insinuated about her and how they looked for her to end tragically.

It's one of if not her very best album. If you're a young grown up person living in a big city, i dare you to put this on at night and not love and vibe to it. Some of it is chill, some is groove, some is deeply personal. It's the perfect late night album imo and everyone i played it to, loved it. Some of her best videos as well

Still sold around 7 million albums until now and that's pretty good but Madonna was used to release studio albums that would be TOP 100 best selling albums ever worldwide and that didn't happen with this one (But along with all her albums from the 90's is still TOP 2000 best selling albums worldwide from 1950's to 2020's)
_Erotica_ definitely is one of her best albums as it contains some of her best songs ever: _Thief of Hearts, Words, Whys It So Hard, Bad Girl, Secret Garden, Waiting_ . The album was underrared because it was decades ahead of its time, people were definitely distracted by the provocative aspect of Madonna's art at the time and were busy passing judgment. Little did they know that Madonna would open the doors with that album for every artist (predecessor and newcomer). After Madonna it was easy for every female artist to get away with this kind of videos and imagery, she made it first and better than anyone else.

This video is basically my life between 1998 and 2003. The thrill was in getting attention, never in the sex. Always felt like shit the next morning as I walked home in the dark. And it never occurred to me that it was depression driving me to "act this way" A really powerful message here.

My life from 2010-2016. It took a tragedy and financial hardship to finally snap out of the Jekyll/Hyde lifestyle I lived as a result of depression and trying to find love and companionship in the wrong places and with the wrong people.
My life too between the ages of 15 and 26. Always the thrill of attention and you are so right about the depression driving us to act that way.
Even now, 29 years after it's release, this video still makes me cry. Christopher Walken and Madonna express so much emotion in such a short space. I wonder why this never get made into a full length movie? It would have been a blockbuster!

This is such a great song/video about the danger of addiction. I remember times I lived like this as a way to cope with trauma and the lyrics are spot on, I definitely wasn't happy.

Erotica is criminally underrated. It is lyrically probably her deepest, considering it's a concept album. The Sex book took the focus away, which she probably hadn't counted on. Rolling Stone gave it a good review at least.
For me, Erotica is my favourte album from her, together with 'Ray of Light'.

Erotica, was one of my favourite Madonna's album, it such a shame that when it came out, people did not understand what it was all about, constantly underrated and criticised. Thank you Madonna for having pushing the boundaries and allowed us to understand and discover other ways of relationships and different manners to love and being loved... 1992/93, New York City, the Best years, no iPhones or iPads around, just staring at people in a cafe while smoking a cigarette. Missing these years...
KZhead is great to have. I miss having a stereo to listen to music in my SF apartment. Social media is great for closed groups, and meeting people threw these groups, but carrying around a smart phones, I hate. I miss having an SJP phone and answering machine, to come home to. During global shutdown 2020, I would leave my phone at home to go to the bodega. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I feel like there is no privacy with a camera connected to a smart phone. Oh, yes Erotica is a fave next to New Order 1987. With KZhead, you don't have to pull out CD after CD. And with laptops you can organize your collection in an app. And coffee, SF is a cafe town, but I tend to frequent Starbucks drive thru instead. "Starbucks, LiteBrite, first star I see tonight" "StarBurst, luckystar, lipstick cherry is my fave starburst all right"
