Recording the Cafe 1930 with Kevin for the second time has brought back a lot of fond memory while I was preparing for the Menuhin Competition (Geneva) in 2018. I gave my debut recital in Singapore on 28 March 2018 as a warm up for the competition and this is one of the pieces that I played during then. I had received tremendous encouragement and support from the audience which had strengthened my confidence to participate in the competition. I am very grateful to Menuhin Competition for awarding me joint first prize and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the audience at my debut recital back then for their encouragement, as well as my KZhead Subscribers and viewers now for your continual support. Hope that you like this different interpretation of Cafe 1930 and please stayed tune for Nightclub 1960 which will be premiered next week same time on 18 Dec 2021.
Cafe 1930 is another age of the tango. People preferred to listening rather than dancing to it. It became more romantic and intense in character, often adopting a slower tempo with melancholic harmonies. Tangos are sometimes sung as well.

  • I know this is Chloe’s channel and all, but this song is literally what inspired me to buy a classical guitar a few months ago. The guitarist is amazing!

  • What I love most about the playing of Chloe Chua is her patience. She takes her time for every note to be right, and since she is quick if she wants to, she has that time to prepare for that next note. Every performance of her I've seen, breathes.

  • It's so intense that it hurts me. It' not easy to understand how a little girl like Chloe has captured the deep melancholy of Piazzolla's piece. Absolutely amazing.

  • Less is more. I like it better than Gidon Kramer’s.

  • Chloe has a very beautiful tone. Compared to her previous version, I prefer this slower version of Cafe 1930.

  • Chloe's interpretation and musicality are, of course, almost beyond description. Kevin's guitar is fully the equal of Chloe's violin. They have been performing this piece for several years and their practice time has been very well spent. Aurally, visually, in every way, this is the most beautiful duet I have seen.

  • Piazolla’s music and a classical guitar is a match made in heaven. Wonderful playing from Chloe as well. I saw her on a TwoSet Video for the first time just yesterday- how fortunate I was to stumble on this performance!

  • Part of the magic of these moments is the skill of the videographer and sound engineer to place us in front of the performers as if we were in the room with them. Visually and aurally we are settled, relaxed and able to absorb the performance completely. We are undistracted by any artifice of the technical elements of the production. The people who gave us front-row seats served these remarkable musicians remarkably well.
