Joe is a great interviewer because he knows how to shut up when a guest is telling an engaging story. A lesser interviewer would have continually interrupted and ruined the flow of the story.
agreed. been like this for years. and he's great at making it a conversation instead of an interview
Adam22 be like
Doesn’t matter. The story is filled with holes
That's not what makes a good interviewer. A good interviewer presses for truth and can get information from a story others can't due to their lines of questioning and tactics. Simply letting someone "tell an engaging story" is actually not an interview at all.
Agreed. I wish he would stop calling himself a comedian because he is not funny and he has no no comedy instincts. He is an "Interviewer" and "Someone who knows when to shut up"
It always amazes me how westerners go to these countries looking for adventure and are shocked when they find it.
What shocks me more is the number of Putin sympathizers we have among right wingers. They are enemies of freedom.
Thank you. That’s what I’ve always thought. Like missionaries that go to Africa and get their shit kicked in.

Exactly. Should be how to have a successful podcast 101. Just shut up and listen to guests! Thought it was a great podcast this. Crazy stories!
It's because they care more about what they have to say then the person they are supposed to be interviewing.

It's horrible what he went through but I have to say this guy is a complete and utter fool. Shouldn't have been speaking out about Ukraine or keeping track of his political views in a diary or voice recorder and shouldn't have been talking to locals about sensitive news topics regarding Russia. You can't just go to another country and assume they have the same freedom of speech laws like we do in the West. You need to be aware of what not to say in countries with dictatorships or shambolic justice systems or else you're asking for trouble.

He was a guest in another Country. Obey the rules or leave as if you were in somebody's house as a visitor.
Lol freedom of speech is dead in the West as well

Especially if he’s full of shit(which he is) he was definitely doing shady shit and definitely planning on spreading propaganda when he left Russia. “The atrocities in Bucha” oh you mean the shit that hadn’t been proven but what has been proven is that the media/Zelensky regime has been lying about everything they can?!!!? What about the atrocities that the Ukrainian military/Azov have been perpetrating for the last 8 years! All the rapes and massacres and bombing of civilians in a daily basis?! What about forcing people into a building…setting it on fire and then shooting at people who try to flee? Fuck him.

Kudos to him for making it through that. A few years back I did a trans-mongolian trip that had me go from beijing to ulaanbaatar and then all the way to Moscow. Getting a visa for Russia is crazy enough, they ask you all these personal questions about family members histories and military service, but going in through train meant that I had to go through some random border check point in the middle of nowhere. A stark realization came to me as the three stout and very unhappy border agents in long grey trenchcoats and uniforms, like something out of an 80s movie, rifled through our bags, backpacks and even the compartment above our closet. They pulled out chewing gum and sternly demanded explanations. It was 2 am, I was in the middle of siberia, and I could be arrested for literally anything and NO ONE would know where I was. I didn't have cell service, no internet, no phone, save for the sporadic few moments I managed service passing through larger cities. It was a tense moment, but still an exciting trip. Russia is Russia. It's not the West. It's a unique place with a unique set of rules and many in the west can't comprehend the experience.

So he was in a Russian prison in 2022 and the Russians found a picture on his phone of him in Afghanistan, a photo they found suspicious. However Afghanistan was part of the 43,000 mile bike trip in 2010-2014 and he said earlier in the conversation he didn’t have a phone with him on that trip, he said iPhones weren’t on the market when he left, and the cell phone he had on that trip he chucked in a river. So how did a 10 year old Afghanistan photo from his 43,000 mile bike trip end up on his cell phone in 2022? Something is not adding up.
You think? I had a feeling about this guy as soon as I saw him and his fast talk about crumpets..... when a person provides many explanations, you know he is guilty.
From a camera?
I have photos on my phone and I ha e no idea where they came from.
The audio version on Spotify might as well been done in silence……. I had it on 100% volume and could nearly make it work through the work day situation
You might want to check your audio. On my phone it was the same volume as the other ones
If you're still on the anti Spotify train, you're missing out on a gem in the JRE interviews. The whole 3 hours were as engaging as this clip, Really hope this guy comes back again.
@@kristycampbell5986 one minute ago your name was Andrea. What's going on?
Work for Spotify much?
Joe's show is still great but Spotify sucks. He's been there how long now and they still don't have a way to watch it on your television.. even though Rogan said they would a month after joining. The app sucks the big one
@@user-nj1zu2nf1x I don’t know why some ppl say that lol I’ve had Spotify for 5yrs and never had any issues with it, not even with the full videos of JRE, can find literally any song or podcast that I can listen to anytime offline
@@jacks1bonnielass the app is trash. You can’t skip ads normally you have to like try to scroll thru them and half the time you come back to the podcast in a completely different spot than it was playing. It’s hard to fast forward and rewind without it messing up, there is no more live JRE episodes when they all used to be live, there are some obvious cuts which means they are editing it, and let’s not even get into the 200 episodes that are gone that we can’t watch anymore, i could go on for days. Spotify sucks and JRE is about 20% as good as it used to be.

A big tip here, keep moving and avoid these people, don't stay in dicey places long and get out as soon as you can. Not gonna lie, he comes across slightly dishonest..
@Daniel Caine His movements and words seem calculated to me. Try to imagine how this guy would look like, and how different his demeanor and body language would be if infact he WAS lying, i dont think it would be any different. The actions he describes could be considered very suspicious, and he downplayes exactly those suspicious actions. He paints the Russians as purpetraitors, but imagine; the Russians view the west as their enemy and in practice, they are. Not very surprising how the Russians act. The Americans would act exactly the same. He sounds like in fact he understands the Russian perspective, but he is deliberately ignorant while telling his story in order so that he infact HAS a story. This is my (ofc i can't be 100% sure) unbiased opinion. I just think it's interesting. If you think i am wrong in my reasoning, i am interested in hearing why you think so.
@@justinjmader222 I don't know if i agree, his mannerisms and demeanour seem very genuine to me. For the record I am English, so perhaps I am slightly biased, but nothing came across as dishonest. Maybe he embellished the story a little, no one can be certain of that either way.
