Galaxy S24 Exynos vs S23 Snapdragon | Gaming & Battery Test
This test is focused on the performance and battery of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Exynos 2400 vs S23 Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The test is focused on Wi-Fi and 5G gaming. I played Asphalt 9, PUBG Mobile, Subway Surfers, Genshin Impact, and Chess on Google Chrome mobile browser. I wanted to put the theory of the S24 Exynos running hot on 5G into test, and to see if the phone has thermal issues. I reviewed the camera comparison of Samsung Galaxy S23 vs S24, which you can find in the channel. Also, I did test the speed and daily battery life in another video on the channel.

It's ridiculous that they are releaseing a new phone that's worse than last generation, and marketing it as just S24 worldwide, when the Exynos version is worse than S23.
I hope they will fix it with next updates

Hello there 👋
@@tullo5564 Hi
I guarantee all of you that if you do the same test with snapdragon S23 and S24, the result will be the same. I have both devices, S23 has better battery, more efficient, and runs a lot cooler than S24 snapdragon. I use them both on mobile with t-mobile and also with wifi. S23 is just more resilient no matter the app. Get the S23 trust me
and over time exynos will perform even worse...
I literally have both of them. The battery is better on the s24+ from the s23+. Also, download speeds are actually insanely faster and the screen is brighter. Not to even mention, the AI features and 7 years of OS updates.
@jordanjackson8873 dawg that's good for you, my post is talking about the S24 not the +. S23 is more battery efficient.
@Flash363 I just can't see the s23 being more efficient with battery than the s24. The differences are practically the same. The s24 and s24+ both have bigger batteries than their predecessor with the snapdragon 8 gen 3 on top of that. Hell, my s24+ even runs on QHD now and still has better battery life. I just don't think your sentiments are plausible, especially seeing as multiple battery tests have been done between the 2.
@jordanjackson8873 I'm just stating my personal testing from an anecdotal standpoint. Of course no one wants to hear that last year's model has better battery life, because it invalidates your purchase in a way. Yes the battery size on the s24s are larger, but the difference in the 23 vs 24 is 100 mah which is a negligible difference. But the problem is precisely what you mentioned, the 8G3. You stated the S24s have the new processor as if it was more efficient and its not. Did you see the comparison videos between the 8G3 and 8G2? Preferably the ones from geekerwan. He states the 8G3 does produce higher scores when it comes to CPU but at the cost of a higher power draw. And heat. The 8G2 is the true successor to the 865. It runs efficient and cool. The 8G3 even while watching KZhead/ twitch does get warm in my S24. Like I said that's just the difference I see in my own personal testing while I decide which device to send back to samsung.
Excellent review man! Thanks for considering modem performance as well 👌🏻 All your reviews together confirm what we feared but already knew about Exynos.
Exactly the comparison I was looking for, nicely done in detail. Thank you!
Qualcomm makes the best modems and antennas for mobile devices. I'm not suprise that Samsung can't compete. This is exactly why Apple went back to Qualcomm for their modems. I hope Samsung can at least address the thermal issue over 5G with an update.
Huawei could challenge Qualcomm, but with the sanctions it's a mess. Sadly.
@@Handynutzer true , when it comes to modems no one can beat Huawei modems , they get signals even in the toughest situations .
I have looking for this video Thank you 👍
Really enjoying your work with all the exynos vs snapdragon videos. What would be interesting besides battery and temperature would be performance. Like in the genshin impact segment there were scenes where both phones dropped from 60fps. Would be interesting if the exinos is throttling more that the snapdragon (even if it still runs hotter 😢) and therefore gives out less performance whilst still beeing hotter or if it can at least beat the last gen sd in sustained performance. EDIT: didn't watch till the second genshin segment but it would be still interesting for the 5g because of more heat. But for the future you could try to keep the phones on the same sides, as an example in the second pubg the s23 was on top and s24 on bottom and in the second genshin it was reversed.
Great test , you did everything very thoughtful and accurate which leads to results we can trust 100%.
i just want a Samsung with Backdesign of s22 , the frame of 24 and the snap cpu of s23 ...😢
That's a dream....
Thank you for this test! I think you should a few more tests that can reveal a lot of things, and all related to modems: Put two sim cards into both phones, and disable 5g 1 - do a voice call over 4g (like teams or zoom) 2 - do a video call over 4g 3 - do a normal gsm call 2hr 4 - some kind of google maps tests? 5 - just put the phones into a metal box overnight with only gsm, gps, and bluetooth enabled Im asking this, because i think the main feature in a phone, that you can reach other people, and can navigate with it. I have an older exynos, and its really sucks because its just eats up my battery trough the modems... (s20fe, 4500mah battery, brightness restricted, 60hz only etc... Sometimes i just have 3 hr sot because of the modems) I hope that you can help me if should i buy the S23 or the S24... Thank You!
I'm curious to see if the performance, heating and battery life will get better with updates. The iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max suffered a lot with overheating issues when it launched, so I hope Samsung will fix this with updates. But they have to make heat management their number one priority going forward, no one wants to hold an oven in their hands.
iPhone 15 Pro/Max have been released with poor hardware and nothing will change it now. It has been explained by Vadim Yuryev - processors manufactured by tsmc had poor efficiency, voltage had to be increased to get good performance results. So they did increase voltage and it resulted in overheating and bad battery life. As he said we'll have to wait for iPhone 16 pro to get better CPU.
Hello, thanks for the clarifications, I'm happy now that I chose S23+. A curiosity about the pronunciation of `s' - are you from Spain? :D the only language where I encountered this particularity.

I was not expecting that! What a shame for Exynos. By the way could you try using thermal guardian to lower the thermal threshold 2 degree lower? I'm curious how Exynos performs with the same thermal limits as 8 gen 3.
Thanks for the tip. Didn't know about this plugin, will try it on my next test :) I thought the threshold is 47C, but this time it did go to 50C, was very weird.
you wouldn't have expected exynos to perform worse. Did you live under a rock?

How can you not expect this? It was always like this with exynos
Dr. Mo on which game projects you have worked on? I wonder If I played something you have worked on.

Could you do the same but only with social media apps and browsing? Because not everybody only plays games, so maybe the s24 is more efficient doing normal stuff, and more thirsty when playing games
Hi, there is another test I've done and it is in the channel, my tests shows as you said there is close to zero difference in social media and normal apps. Even in gaming using Wi-Fi I did not find any difference.
Estou bastante satisfeito com meu S23 que adquiri a 1 mês atrás, sendo a única reclamação sobre a bateria, mas fato é que eu venho de um Samsung M51, então estava muito mal acostumado kkkk
Interesting thing that in the exynos version is amd gpu and judging by previous versions of exynos, it must perform better for example in genshin when it runs vulkan instead of open cl. Also seen some tests where exynos 2400 performs better than snapdragon in a lot of games but has more bugs and artifacts. Its easier to see on s24+ version, cause the cooling system is a bit better than s24 because of the size.
The issue in exynos is manufacturing.. Samsung manufactured chips are about 20-30% less efficient than TSMC manufactured chips => exactly the difference between exynos and snapdragon
How many hours did you play?

I have a friend who recently upgraded to the s23. Seems strange because it’s not the newest model, but it’s definitely worth it with the lack of a snapdragon chip in my region

I am feeling really happy that i bought S23 just before the launch of S24 with huge discounts. Exynos is a big no for me after S21fe. I upgraded from S21fe to S23. I charge my battery to 85% limit and again i charge my phone the next morning. Superb battery and performance. Also camera is suberb.

Nice video. This is normal, because the new phone has much better performance than the old one, and the battery has not kept up with that progress

Hey, S24+ is a big phone, so the heating issues is not as bad as S24. It's a nice phone, but still on 5G is may heat up if you have a video call or capture 4K.

yup i'm worried too.... hope they do something through updates...
Good testing video. But for suggestion, please put the phone consistently, don't put S23 above S24 for the first game then S24 above S23 for the next game and back to S23 above S24 for next game.
Do a standby test, difference will be even bigger in favour of s23
s23 aunque eso de las actualizaciones estan bien para el s24 pero no se si con ese procesador envejezca bien, dificil decision para comprar el s23 en este año :/

The problem is the heating of the chips made by Samsung, they still need to improve, but it cannot be denied that they have improved compared to their previous generation

I never bought anything other than Samsung over the past 10 years, but since you want to spit in my face by forcing Exynos on me, I will spit back at you. I longed for the S24, I knew that Exynos is going to suck, but I gave Samsung the benefit of the doubt by waiting to see for myself by watching benchmarks. I bought an iphone 15 Pro and never looked back. Good luck Samsung, but you lost me forever.
People need to remember the 23 will have had a years worth of updates, the 24 is still to get its 1st regardless of SOC
In my experience, phone updates rarely improve performance.
@Prizm44 I'm sorry for your experience, however If that was the case generally, nobody would want them . As it is all down to programming things can always be tweaked and adjusted . If nothing improved with updates OEMs wouldn't bother as it's an expense they would rather not have . Somebody said you can't fix hardware with software which isn't technically true. If something has a chip or sensor that controls it , it can be adjusted through timing , speed , limitation , extension. A battery is hardware but you can control power draw through software .I will admit there is only so much that can be done before the gains turn negative.
@@derekdrummond7544updates are primarily to adress security issues and adding new features. Performance improvement are however very rare and not that pronounced in comparison.
@Hk-uw8my Well, you obviously know something Samsung doesn't if there are no performance improvements considering it clearly states it ! • Overall stability of functions improved. • The security of your device has been improved. A software update can include, but is not limited to: - Device stability improvements, bug fixes. - New and / or enhanced features. ⁃ Further improvements to performance. To get the best from your device please keep your device up to date and regularly check for software updates. It's a pity YOU can't separate the security patches cos then YOU can install those and never have your phone improved with updates as they provide no benefits to YOU .

Can't they just set the Exynos 2400 for better battery life? Like, reduce the maximum clock by 20% and also drop the vcore?
Cheap things will always be bad
I think you mixed up the score points on 8:16. Either that, or the name of the phones are reversed.
You are right, I wrote the scores wrong on the screen.
Can you not keep changing the position of the phones, it can be confusing. Great vid tho
Haha absolutely, I was confused during editing too, won't make this mistake again
I agree with 5g causing overheat. I have s21+ exynos. When i play monopoly go game sometimes decided to overheat, so hot, the back cover glue melted. RIP my waterproof rating. I tried playing in battery saving mode and it cooled down INSTANTLY! I figured out that by disabling 5G, no more overheat. But still hotter than my friend snapdragons
This is what Samsung supposed to do. Put the predecessor and new device head to head with real life usage. Given this result, I think it is really unfair for Samsung to price S24 exynos version similar to S24 snapdragon. It is utterly unethical to shove it to select regions and expect that it is fair. Sneaky!

I loved my S23 but the battery was poor. My 8 Pro lasts around 8 hours a day more.
I upgraded from s21 FE to S23 because of snapdragon. It's worth the upgrade! 😊
I mean, Exynos was always at least one generation behind the SD. AMD chips helped a little, but not that much. Newest Exynos APU is +/- SD8 G2. If you would put S24+ (Exynos 2400) Vs. S23U (SD8 G2+), it would be day and night difference in performance. I have Fold 5 - I had a discussion with my friend last night and I run all of the 3dmark benchmarks. Imagine my face, when I found out that SD8 G2+, while rendering in higher res than S24, has much higher scores than the Exynos Versions and only, like 15% less to the SD8 G3+ version (of the Samsung's S24U). What's the point ot upgrade when there's no upgrade

battery testing is kinda unreliable, tbh. 1. Samsung device needs time to adjust its users activities with their phone to optimize its battery usage. 2. Your tests contradict those of most other channels. While people say Exynos maxes out at 45 degrees, you say 52 degrees.
Hi, there is a difference between body temperature and battery temperature, so it depends what the measurement is about. In my tests most of the time the chipset did not pass 47, there was one instance that it went to 51 and you can see it in the video.
Even 8gen 3 has worse battery than 8gen but both are on firstsofware
