The LEGO NASA Artemis Space Launch System is an insane product, the biggest space related LEGO set ever and one that comes at a cost... And I'm not talking about the price...

I'm hoping to eventually get a couple of them and maybe turn them into an oil refinery....
Is the Nasa apollo V taller than this or is this taller. (I have the Saturn V next to my desk and it is tall )
You often bring up repetitivity as a highly negative aspect of LEGO sets. But I really think that to achieve structures like this one it's absolutely unavoidable
With sets like these, it is unavoidable, and you can tell from looking at it, but that doesn't take away from that, to Tiago at least, this is a negative of the build. Just because the problem is a necessary flaw of the design doesn't stop it from being a flaw. You just have to hope that the end result is enough to overcome it and for the set to be worth it.
How does he except a large, mostly symmetrical structure to not be repetitive at some points? I’ve seriously never understood that complaint
i think it’s what thinks of as “his niche” like other lego tubers talk about technic, display factor, etc but tiagos is stuff like building techniques and unique parts use. Which is a fine niche to have, but really, who is going to buy a 500 dollar lego set for the thrill of spending an afternoon building it? You spend that much money to put it on display.
@@silxent6888 he probably understands the need for repetitive builds, as he is a former set designer. He's just saying that the set wasn't fun to build from a builder's perspective
@@alnd not everyone, I like to stretch out the building experience over a few days and disassemble sets after about half a year. A few years later I like to build them a second time, so building experience is very important for me
The stickers really bring down my interest in this set.
For Lego prices, there should never be stickers. If Cobi, Pantasy, etc. can release sets with all prints at lower prices, so can Lego.
If at least they were in the same colour as the bricks - Lego's white stickers are somehow always way too white compared to the white parts they are applied to.
@@MrClassic. Actually, in this case the bricks aren't white enough.
@@gizmomckopp1131 You mean they should change the white colour of the bricks to match the whiter colour of the stickers instead of the other way round?
@@MrClassic. Yeah, I'd argue that the original rocket is bright white, not cream white. But they shouldn't be friggin cheapskates in the first place and only use prints. Most expensive brick toy company should deliver the highest quality, but LEGO is a joke compared to Pantasy and Cobi.
The Saturn V and Shuttle Discovery LEGO sets set the bar so high that it's hard for any new NASA space set to measure up.
For sure
A 1:10 scale Artemis SLS rocket on its own would have been much better, IMO.
@bryanhamby4960 Agreed. The platform is nice, but 2/3 of the set. For a set I'm buying, I want the focus to be on the spacecraft.
@@bryanhamby4960 there would not be much too it and would look underwhelming next to any of the other sets.
The staging on the Saturn V and the fact that the Hubble fits so nicely within Discovery - it will be a while before these features are topped! Partially because of those two sets, I try to buy only sets designed by Milan Madge and Mike Psiaki if I can help it! This strategy hasn’t led me astray yet!
Am I alone in saying I wish LEGO would make 18+ sets printed pieces only? Stickers make the model feel cheaper, like one of those cheap plastic space ships you'd get at a science museum.
Like the Saturn V…? this new one stinks and a lost opportunity
You're not the only one. Imo the more premium the set, the less stickers are justified. There are some exceptions, like the rivendell set, which has some really high quality stickers that actually look amazing and are quasi holographic. Stuff like that, which still feels premium and would be almost impossible to replicate with prints, I'm okay with. But this set? No
18+ sets have more stickers because adults are expected to be able to place stickers. While 4+ sets do not have stickers.
@@simonquvang6073 still, I would prefer spending a bit more for having no stickers at all, the color difference alone makes stickers problematic, and you can't really undo stickers.
You are not. Ideas sets come without stickers. Super-expensive sets like this one shoudo the same.
I dont understand the hate about the black boxes, I love them! So stylish. Makes it more pop, and more expensive looking.
Ppl hate it because its badluck
I just throw away every box so don't care how it looks
@@TipperProject oh really, I keep them despite the unhappines of others 😂
It just feels cheap and lazy at this point. A few years ago when the 18+ branding was introduced sure they all looked stylish and it helped sell the product but on behalf of myself and many Lego fans, part of the experience for me was always appreciating the artwork on the box, it really added to the experience. Especially when most adult sets now are hundreds of dollars a lot of us would appreciate that small touch of magic to be added back to the sets
@@dinoboy8758what color was the box?
This could have been so perfect if they had modeled the SLS to the same scale as the Saturn V set from 2017. I've always wished that set had the umbilical tower, and now that Lego is actually releasing a (really impressive) Launch Complex 39, the entire thing is dwarfed by the Saturn V?!? What?!? It would bug me so much to see those two sets side by side...
where can we see this 39A set ? i dont see it on ideas.
This Artemis set includes the Pad 39A launch tower.
This would be Launch Complex 39B that SLS is on. Which would be fine, some Saturn Vs flew from 39B. But this tower is such a nice build, I think I'm just going to have to get all the tower pieces (but mostly in red) and then make a 160:1 scale MOC of Saturn V if I want my ideal display. That would be pretty awesome though, 39A and 39B displayed side by side, like they always have been, but spanned by a 53 year time difference.
Have to admit that gantry is beautiful, the best Lego has done so far. The umbilicals and arms retracting in unison feature is the chef's kiss.
I don’t need it… I don’t need it… I definitely don’t need it… I NEED IT
Also, new Lunar Rover just dropped. Also, our wallets just dropped…
hello, Gordon!
I think it looks awesome. A few things I would have liked to see different: stickers should be on clear film. Some metallic parts would have helped break up and add even more interest to the mostly grey structure. The tracked transport crawler which moves the entire launch pad, would have been AMAZING if included, however it would've made the set even costlier. I hope someone MOC's a crawler for this.
Thank you Lego for putting stickers on this, so I can save money by not buying it 😅
Trueeee
Glad that you're giving the Hubble its own highlight separate from the Discovery, it's a solid build in its own right and really deserves that.
Right?! Should have been a separate $40/$50 set and it would have sold like hot cakes
“…as someone who doesn’t display sets for long…” -spoken while sitting in front of dozens of built sets on permanent display behind him 😂
I'm underwhelmed. If the set focused solely on the rocket like the Saturn V did, and actually made it to scale, I'd buy it. That's what the fans wanted. That's the idea we all voted for on Ideas not once, not twice, but thrice. Each time, Lego shot it down, presumably because they were making this. It's a letdown. All the stickers, the tiny scale of the rocket, and the needlessly huge tower. Sure, it makes a good display, but I think the budget could have gone solely into the rocket and made for an even better display. I'm not going to be buying this set, but I'm glad its pieces might be useful for someone to design a reasonably priced MOC of just the rocket down the line.
I agree. I was really excited for this because I wanted to put it next to my Saturn V, But it's just way too small
This was my biggest question from the review - so it’s not to the same scale as the Saturn V?
I am not sure, the launch pad looks great on display, and we already got the saturn V, including the launch pad seems like a good diferentiator otherwise you would be getting a similar but much less known rocket
@@bondles Saturn V was 1:110, this one is 1:160ish
I’ve been waiting for you to review this!! 🙌🏼 cannot wait to get this and make a video on it! Thank you!
I think the repetition side is not surprising for the tower, personally I can’t wait for this one!
I’m Excited for this set but am disappointed in all the stickers, I would have rather paid more money to have more printed elements
Tiago: *complains about the building experience* Me: *laughs in Eiffel Tower*
As a minifier, I'm not sure if this is better - the Saturn V model was awesome to build together with my coworkers, the rocket here is really simple in comparision.
and Saturn V scaled to the microfigure which is what made it so cool. Does Artemis scale in the same way?
Lego had to work with what they had (probably why this one has a launchpad) and Artemis is pretty simple in comparison to the Saturn V.
This is less based on the rocket and more on the launchpad which isn't the best approach
@@TheFootballBros-109 especially because a lot of fans want a launchpad for their Saturn V without shelling out for 3 retired technic sets to make the thing.
I really like your shelves, they're themed and not too crowded, and the sets displayed are some of my favourites.
I waited for this set to happen for so long, that i first thought you were just reviewing a MOC. I love the Looks of it!
I'm not thrilled about the stickers but I'm really excited about this set. Not sure where I'll display it though.
Nice review, and I was thinking for 3 min and 11 sec to buy it.
LEGO sets for 18+ should only have printed pieces. No stickers!
You always have amazingly good reviews. Good and bad for every set. Thank you
I would have been curious to see the Saturn V set on the pad to see if it could work with little or many modifications
been waiting for this vid for ages lol pls review the galaxy
Beautiful!
I need to admit (probably for 100 times or more) that I do like yours reviews ❤
one of my favorite lego sets is the sun and the moon and earth lego set and this is the is a breath of fresh air
Gran canal Tiago! Te sigo desde Suiza 😄!
Really disappointed with all the stickers, might just be a no buy for me simply because of that. Such a pity. The Saturn V had zero stickers!
Looks epic great detail awseome review 👍
Dunno if I'd call the box art for the adult sets boring. These are display pieces. So you want a good idea of what its going to look like. The piece is front and center. Other sets have more dynamic art because its meant to entice the imagination of the children that will play with it
Yeah I've never really understood that criticism.
I'll call it boring. And lazy. You look at older Creator Expert vehicles and the box art is beautiful and has actual effort put into it. You look at current Ideas vehicles and every box looks the same. Just that same dull black background with no real effort put in. I'm not fully against those boxes because they do make some sets like the Art, Architecture and helmet sets look good. But Lego went too far and uses it for anything that's not aimed at kids and even some which could've been aimed at kids. Sets like Sesame Street and Winnie the Pooh probably would've sold much much better if they'd used the proper box art for them. Instead they made them look dull and boring and probably stopped a lot of kids and parents from even giving them a proper look
There’s always a way to do both. The UCS star destroyer was a good example of a great box art while still offering that premium, clear cut view
I think it might be because lego has started creating box art for adults that has that consistent black art with the model. Before they started doing this, large sets really didn’t have a consistent style, the art work would be less consistent and more related to the model itself like box art for more kid sets. Maybe this is what is meant?
Looks awesome I can’t wait till it comes out! 😮
the summer Ninjago sets look sick🔥
Just like the real SLS I feel like while this set is an impressive achievement it doesn't hold a candle to its less expensive but more accomplished, significant, capable, and beloved predecessor. Bummed out about how we can't do a full lunar landing, don't have the option to display the stages separately like on the Saturn V, don't have the right scale, and will have this massive launch tower that's way to large to keep assembled if we just want too display the rocket.
Don't worry: NASA can't do a full lunar landing with the SLS, either.
Huh? Of course you can't do a full moon landing. This is a replica of Artemis One mostly, which was an uncrewed test flight and any way the whole idea behind Space Launch System is a completely different mission architecture than Apollo. One all up launch is no its method for going to land on the moon. Other than that, mostly good points. I hate that it isn't the same scale as the Saturn V.
I would much rather a SLS the scale of Saturn V without the launch pad than the current combo
Same. But it's all the stickers that really seal the (non) deal for me. Stickers just don't display well. Especially LEGO's crappy color matched ones.
Wish I had room for this 🥲
wish i had money for this
Honestly same
Great review @tiago! What is the size of the base? I wonder since I need to arrange for a shelf :)
I want this soooooo bad but the stickers… I hate stickers
Always wanted some proper a proper detailed launch pad, for a rocket definitely getting this one
Tiago - thanks for another great/balanced review. You mentioned the building experience as being somewhat lacklustre - which makes me curious about which sets you enjoy the most for this aspect. Would you consider doing a “top 5 building experience” video for those AFOLs of us who place a high premium on building experience? Thanks!!
Solid review. A size comparison to the Saturn V rocket would have been a nice addition.
For real! I regret not having mine built for that same reason
Want it, but dont have the SPACE for it😅
This looks like an amazing set. I need it
I think that the repetitiveness is greatly compensated by the result! Unless you're going to build and rebuild it several times, it's an awesome display piece!
This is so *Cool* Seriously. When I was a Kid, everyone knew what we used to ‘go-to-space.’ Nowadays there’s a TON of Shuttles, this is Awesome.
I'm glad I watched this. I didn't realize the rocket was so much smaller than the Saturn V set. I think I'll stick to displaying my Saturn V.
I thought you kept saying Ariane. 💀That’s a totally different rocket.
After i missed out on the Saturn V, i picked up the Artemis set the day it released. I find most LEGO builds repetitive in some way so that doesnt really play a part in my choice to pick it up or not. But this would make a nice addition to my NASA Lego collection with the Shuttle Discovery, Mars Rover, Lunar Lander, and of course me picking up the Milky Way Galaxy Art and Artemis on release.
Thank you for the video.
That's a lot of stickers.
Looks like a cool display piece to go alongside similar Nasa themed sets. Despite the repetitive nature of the build, feels like a good one to pace throughout a week than rush all at once. Shame about the stickers as the Apollo I don't think had any throughout the build. Still given the choice I'd sooner get the Discovery Shuttle as it's a much more interesting build, and better display altogether.
another hugeeeeeeee set! damn!
2:43 what was that haha xD🎵🎵🎶🎶
Good question, something with the crew?
Is the scale of the SLS the same as the shuttle? I would love to have a full stack of Discovery (SRB's + tank) since the SLS in real life reuses the SRB's from the shuttle. I noticed the engine is a different piece (honeycomb vs barrel) so I'm a bit concerned the scales are different
Ah. I also see that they got ICPS completely wrong. Sad to see.
I have watched like 4-5 videos on this set as im like 90% on getting it. Every set has said that its a repetitive build but the detail is incredible. As far as im concerned an accurate set like this with some repetitive steps is better than something thats not accurate.
I love space Deffo buying it
I was wayyy too excited to see this get revealed... and i still am. I have the shuttle, ISS, saturn v, lunar lander, and perseverance rover on display, and i hope to add this to my collection! Ive been wanting to have a launch tower with my rockets for years, so this is a dream come true. Also ill be pretty much finished with what has been the hardest year of school for me so far by the time this comes out, so im definitely gonna spoil myself in a couple of weeks :)
Amazing!
A comparison to the saturn 5 would have been nice. And it is just me or does the white of the piece look yellowisch?
It's beautiful
It seems some of these space sets are excellent bargains for their size, not to mention quality
Now we need lego crawler bellow it 😮 Maybe project for Lego Ideas?
As cool as this thing is... There are two glaring aesthetic issues: 1) You might as well name that tower Pisa because it is leaning HARD. 2) The 2x2 round bricks of the solid rocket boosters (and top of the main booster) are a GIGANTIC eye sore because of the gaps for standard round lego connectors to go. The build is doted with these extremely awkward dark rectangles... There's not anything that could have been done about it, but in the planning stages, if not scrapping the idea entirely because of that issue, than more attention should have been paid in keeping that to a minimum like in some lego city sets. NO. THANKS.
This will go great next to Saturn V rocket set and discovery shuttle set too
2:44 beautiful vocals
Compared to Saturn V it looks kinda mid and Saturn was more than 2 times cheaper AND also bigger because almost all of the elements made up the rocket, while this one has probably like 1000 elements? And to add to that, it's a LEGO exclusive so no good price cuts for you. In my country, Poland you could buy, even 2 years ago, the Saturn for as little as 400 pln and Artemis' msrp is 1250 pln, so lol.
Man I admit I prefer minifig scale builds but this set is really gorgeous
I am confused of how i just open youtube and every time the feed show me your video which was released 11 mins ago
As a programmer, I can answer this question. Internet stuff is hard and awful.
The tower looks nice, im thinking it would make for a nice retrofit to a saturn v, the sls however really looks like an afterthought vs the saturn however guess it had to to include the tower and fit the budget
Did you build the Saturn 5 @TiagoCatarino I wondered how you felt it compared to this? It's one of the few models I have on display along with the Eagle Lander.
The Saturn V is one of my all time favourite LEGO sets of all time, due to building experience alone. The Artemis pales in comparison
@@TiagoCatarino For sure, the Saturn V interior is just a masterpiece.
I think the result is tremendous and it will be my first day-one Lego purchase this year. Repetition and re-used SNOT is the nature of the beast - its difficult to see how the result could have been achieved any other way. The two down-sides are it not being the same scale as the Saturn V (balanced against a much higher price) and the stickers, but neither are enough to put me off.
How many total steps was it to build?
I wish they would release a version with just the Rocket to make it more affordable.
Is it to scale with the Saturn V?
How does this scale next to the Lego Saturn V?
This looks great and the price is even better, but the stickers and repetitive build just keeps me away from it.
Houston, we got a big one
It’d be cool if you could review the Saturn V for comparison.
Would love to know how it compares to the Saturn V model in terms of height. I have a place to display it but it is limited to the height of Saturn V
I really wish it were scaled to the same scale of the Saturn V
I would have preferred just the SLS alone in the same scale as the Saturn V so they look right when displayed next to each other. While do like the way the launch tower looks, it's probably the reason why the set has to be in a smaller scale, otherwise the set would have been way too expensive.
The blackbox is also not extend to me. The previous box style anlogously illustrates the scale of the model in specific scenario, the Vestas wind turbine is an example. I won't mention athestic problem, the main issue about black box design is that it hard to contemplate these sets before buying.
I do want this set. However it does not match my collection criteria. The artemis project has not done enough yet. It is not historic enough to be on my shelf. Maybe when they get people to the moon again I'll reconsider.
More often than not I love having stickers on sets. This is a different situation though. This is an 18+ set mainly for display. The Saturn V had 0 stickers. I find no good reason for this set to have stickers that don't even match the color of the bricks (looking at white in particular).
love you thanks
I love the repetitive aspect. I think you emphasizing that as being so negative isn't necessary. I totally understand that you don't like that, but acting as though that is a negative aspect of the set feels weird. It's just your preference, but it's necessary in order to get the build.
Looks like an amazing set. Important (to me) information that is missing is how its scale compares to the Saturn V set. Hopefully Lego will produce a set in matching scale when Artemis actually launches humans to Mars.
Saturn V is about 1:110, this is about 1:160. You can find online MOCs for SLS and the launch tower in the same scale as the Saturn V.
The repetition does not deter me from the aesthetically pleasing set. The construction appears ideal for a leisurely Sunday afternoon accompanied by an engaging podcast. However, the unacceptable stickers hinder my purchase decision. This is particularly concerning considering the company's motto of "ONLY THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH." Notably, competitors like Bluebrixx offer great sets that predominantly feature printed elements and are more cost-effective. While Lego remains my preferred choice, it must enhance its offerings to maintain its leading position.
When I saw that 21 of the 27 bags are dedicated to the launch pad and tower rather than the rocket itself, I was very disappointed. This rocket doesn't live up to the LEGO Saturn V, which is a shame since I was looking forward to displaying them together. I have no interest in buying a set that is mostly launch pad when I hoped to display the Artemis SLS horizontally on stands like the Saturn V has as an option. Hopefully a future version will focus on a better rocket build without stickers.
Am I the only person who can't help but notice one of the solar panels for the orion module is wonky on the box art? It drives me nuts everytime I see it 😭
My biggest dislike about sets with plaques is that the plaques are sometimes just a stand alone thing which can make it easy to lose and seems like an after thought. Lego missed a big opportunity to integrate it into the side of the launch platform where it’s just solid grey. It would have looked so much more complete and I hope some makes a moc of it.
I actually like the tower a lot, and I thought this set would be a cool addition to my Saturn V and Discovery, but all the stickers mean I'll have to pass on this one.
Cons: Cost Stickers Scale vs Saturn v SLS hasn’t done anything yet and my never Tiny city size rocket. Pros Space
If I’m not wrong this is the first (and most likely last) set on something made by Lockheed Martin
Good set, but Apollo launch vehicle Saturn V was better IMO, first of all, all pieces of that set was printed and Saturn V is much more iconic and has much more scientific importance than Artemis SLS Rocket. This set has a good advantage, a launch pad. Unfortunately this is not enough for me.
What is the scale on this one?
