A tiny baby deer walked right up to people, crying for help. When it became clear that she lost her mom, they brought her to Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary in Ontario. Watch her grow up and run back to the wild with her best friend!
Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary is a volunteer-based charity and is not government funded, they rely on donations from the public to help wildlife in need. You can support them here: thedo.do/woodlands.

  • This happened to me and my wife in Michigan. We were driving along a woodsy highway and we saw a dead deer at the roadside ahead, and we saw something dart across the grass into the trees. We stopped, and it was a freshly killed doe. And the fawn was hiding in the deep brush at the edge of the woods. We raised that fawn for a month before we could arrange for it to be adopted to a deer farm. That little fawn followed my wife everywhere in and around the house, even up and down stairs.

    • I'd feel for the fawn. But unless it's in immediate danger I'd leave it alone. But I'd worry & fret over it until mom came back. I'd just keep watch over the baby until they're reunited. Or until it's clear she isn't coming back for whatever reason. Then, preferably under the instructions of a wildlife center,I'd get the fawn warm & calmed down while transferring the baby to them. A lot of animals should really be left alone that were rescued. I sort of rescued a mourning dove because my mom's coworkers found it & thought it's poor flying ability meant it needed to be rescued. So she immediately brought it to me. I googled how to give it some food & water. Then I turned to the wonderful invention Google & found out it was a fledgling the parents were still caring for. Even though it wasn't staying in the nest. I also found out it was illegal to keep. Not that I would have anyway. But rather than contacting a rehabber I checked to if it could fly enough to get away from predators. Then I had my mom return it to near where it was found & it's parents. Hopefully the little one survived to have a very long life.

So if a train came it would had been hit! So we put her on the 4wheeler and took her home. We blocked her in my dog house with blankets and hot water bottles. I made a few phone calls and found a lady 30 minutes from my house who would take her because she rehabilitated dear!! Well I checked back about 8 months later and they decided to keep her because she wouldn't leave. She comes in the house and sleeps on the porch sometimes! Her name is PJ (after my late grandma Pauline Jessie) from what I know she's living her best life!!😁❤💕

  • Typically a fawn that is not abandoned by it’s mother will not approach humans. They are usually left hidden in brush or bushes and will instinctively stay put until mom returns. When they wander like poor little Ivy did, especially into water, the chance of them being orphaned increases. It’s really great that the humans gave mom an opportunity to reclaim her baby. But because Ivy didn’t stay put means she was becoming desperate. Only sharing what I’ve learned after a lot of experience because too many fawns are found and mistakenly thought to be abandoned when they aren’t. Assessment of the situation is critical for mom and fawn. Don’t interfere unless you must! Always do everything you can to reunite when possible 😉♥️

And who can be so cruel not to help? You dodo people are one of the best I know. Wild life is nature, but nature don't need ever to be cruel always. There is always a way to make life easier for them after such loss. And you all give your best, my deepest respect to you. Thank you for helping.

      @jumboJetPilot@jumboJetPilot3 жыл бұрын
    • Dustin 2112 Exactly right! One of the big killers of animals on farm lands are combine tractors. They suspected that this is what happened to her mother. Then raised domestically, that deer was more like a dog. They named her Buddy. And she loved being around people. But they always left their barn door open to give Buddy the chance to return to nature any time she wanted to. And eventually she did. But she still stops by a few times per week to say hi to the family who raised her, my aunt and uncle, even years later. They tied a blue ribbon around her neck to identify her as someone’s pet so that hopefully a hunter will never shoot her. The local hunters all know not to shoot the deer with the blue ribbon around her neck.

    • Yeah there's definitely a difference between deer and say cats and dogs. Of the latter two we are talking about pack predators. They have tools and mechanisms (claws, fangs, and team hunting instincts) that protect them from threats. Their numbers and natural weapons are enough to ensure their safety so they sleep in piles often (Cats far less often). Deer only really have sharp senses and speed to protect them. So if they are moving together for some reason they might sleep clustered but far enough apart to escape should a predator attack any one of them. Kind of a like soldiers taking tactical spacing. Do they depend on each other and want to protect each other? Yes. But do they want to eat the same IED or grenade as their buddy? No.
