    • Crows are the perfect example of this. Smarter than a chimp, our relative. Orcas are incredible as well, they even strategize and are very selective eaters for example. Ants regularly make hyper complex subterranean colonies, on part with oit constructions. Bees have come up with the most efficient pattern, the honeycomb, for organization with minimal material and maximal strength and workable area. Mushrooms live in symbiosis with trees just like dogs worked out that we can help them thrive

  • 11:21 Yes it is clear why they help the fishermen and they do get food out of it. I've never even heard of speculation regarding this as there's no room for it. The dolphins push the fish toward the fisherman's nets and signal when to cast their net. Then when the net hits the water the remaining fish turn 180 and get pushed back right into the dolphins. It just makes fishing practically effortless for both spepcies and they always get a big catch.

    • I'm not surprised, I know a lot of these open ocean fish and mammals that hunt large schools of fish work together to all mutually benefit off the prey. And considering how fond humans usually are towards dolphins they've probably already noticed how humans fish as well.

    • Yes, idk why it was such a strange phenomenon that they’re helping fishermen, given their empathy and intelligence. And also narrator said they are not doing it to get any fish, but where’s the proof of that? I can see them fishing and helping the human fishermen there in that final story, and getting easy catches underwater as a result.. Besides that note, lovely video!

  • True story: I went on my senior high school trip to Jamaica, in 1988. I grew up on the coasts of New Jersey, so ocean creatures were a regular part of my life. One day in Jamaica, we went snorkeling in a protected bay: there was a net out there that didn't allow stuff like sharks in. I had never been near a coral reef before, so was quite interested in swimming around the edges of it to see what I could see. I was not brave enough to swim OVER the reef, though. So, I was in water about ten feet deep and spied a shell that looked cool, and dove to pick it up. That is when a very large shadow moved over me. I rolled over to look and here was my first and last experience with an ocean sunfish. It was HUGE. And I instantly became and olympic swimmer back to shore. The life guards laughed at me. It had floated over the net, on its side. And they said its mouth was the size of a silver dollar. I didn't care. That thing scared me so badly that I spent the remainder of snorkeling in 3 feet of water very close to shore. That actually wasn't bad because there were swarms of tiny bright fish there to see. It would have been nice to have been warned about huge harmless fish, though.

  • I read somewhere years ago that in many/most cultures on sea coasts the oldest stories are those involving dolphins (sometimes other sea mammals) either rescuing humans and bringing them to shore or saving them from sharks. I think the reasoning is pretty simple. Dolphins know the sharks are a threat to pretty much all mammals. Dolphins know humans are mammals that live mostly out of the water and can't defend themselves from sharks. Dolphins know humans aren't a threat and generally either play with or feed them. Therefore it's enlightened self interest for dolphins to keep humans safe. Or more simply, dolphins see humans and think, "Oh, the fun & food people! We have to keep them safe!"

    @ak5659@ak5659 Жыл бұрын
  • Dolphins have reached a level of intelligence where their interactions with other species isn’t purely survival driven anymore. Similar to humans, dolphins will interact with other species for recreational purposes. They are capable of both benevolence and cruelty for its own sake, like humans. Dolphins will even interact with other species for… romantic motivations. This too can be motivated by either positive or negative intent depending on the dolphin’s personality. Dolphins are also intelligent enough to take their own lives under extreme stress or depression, like humans. They’ll swim down deep and simply hold their breath until they die. It seems as though they’re one of the highest known states consciousness has evolved to on the planet outside of humanity.

  • There are fishermen stories passed down from generation to generation that are supposedly true of whales saving shipwreck victims. All they had to do was call out the whale's name and it will come to pick you up on its back and take you to shore.

  • I saw a Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his son on a TV special (this was back in the early 80s). They were on a dive, and Jacques-Yves said that as they were swimming a pair of Orcas (one big male and a smaller female) showed up. He reported that the orcas hung out for a while and in the video you can see that they did, but then suddenly, Jacques-Yves said, the Orcas both stiffened and then shot off out of sight. When they returned the big male had a large Great White in his jaws. The female had killed and brought back an enormous Tiger Shark. Perhaps the Orcas detected the sharks, realized they were dangerous to the humans and killed them both to protect Jacques-Yves and his son.

    • Orcas already kill sharks to protect their young, so it's not too much of a stretch to assume they'd do the same for humans if they were just hanging out lol it's pretty neat how smart they are.

  • I think a lot of animals save people and other animals to deny dangerous predators a meal or to avoid having blood and stuff spread through their area.

    @AlmostEthical@AlmostEthical Жыл бұрын
    • Splashing sends more signal to predators than blood,sound of splashing travels way more than blood,blood is limited to spreading in sea and being concerned enough to smell by others

  • they can speak to each other, remember? they probably have folk tales and politics since they have traditions and dialects. so every time that we help them out, take care of them, and release them into the wild again, they talk about us. imagine if you were swimming in the ocean, got stuck somewhere, and a group of dolphins brought you to an underwater cave with a bunch of other injured humans they’ve collected, but they then take care of you and eventually release you onto the surface again. you’d tell everyone, especially if it’s a common thing. but not every dolphin or other sea creature gets the same positive set of events upon interacting with us. sometimes we’re dangerous, and so sometimes they’ll be dangerous in return. i think we should continue with having peace with sea life. it’ll be important for our continued existence

    • @@aftersexhighfives A pufferfish with flipper 😂 but Orcas (or killer whales) are large, powerful apex predators. In the wild, there have been no reliably verified fatal attacks on humans.( In captivity), there have been several non-fatal and four fatal attacks on humans since the 1970s

  • Dolphins 🐬 are so smart. Imagine an adult seeing an escorted child in a place they don’t belong, it would be difficult for the adults to keep going on their way minding their business until the “dependent being” is left alone. Social beings of that level of intelligence would be able to notice that something is out of order.
