Pharrell Williams is just as much of a fashion icon as he is a music icon, and in this episode of Threaducation we’re going to be taking a look at the insane story of how that came to be. He started his music career as a member of The Neptunes and N.E.R.D., and quickly made connections with industry legends like Jay Z. Pharrell had always been into fashion, but where his journey really started was on a trip to Japan where he met Nigo, the founder of Bape.
We’ll talk about how Nigo helped Pharrell launch Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream, and how the two of them completely revolutionized streetwear and sneaker culture. Along the way they collabed the likes of Louis Vuitton, and earned the support of people like Kanye West and Virgil Abloh. There are a lot of crazy twists and turns during this story, but through it all, the same thing remains true - Pharrell Williams is one of the most influential people alive, and his vision has single handedly inspired a new generation of creatives. This is the Pharrell Williams story.

As a man that worked at BBC ICE CREAM office in NYC 2005-2009 I can tell you first hand, from Kanye west to DIDDY, everyone took this man influence . BAPE & BBC is the foundation of where the culture is today. Pharrell open them doors. Marc jacobs, loic, Phillip, rob walker , many others behind the scenes that played a major role in his decision making. Respects to this video. Pharrell deserves his flowers 💐
Funny enough Pharrell said Kelis influenced his style early on and made him diversify his looks.
@@user-qd6im2hp2e her style brings Pharrell to the yard
@@user-qd6im2hp2e how early on? because you can do something different but if i do it BESTTTT then i still credit the person who made it fire more
i never saw anybody doing Skateboard street wear or Japanese clothing with the wild flavor colors before P and EVERYBODY jacked him as the years went by....i seen someone say once everything Kanye has done Pharrell did first AND he did it better everytime and i tend o agree for the most part cuz every trend pharell started noone one ever topped the style choices he made🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶 even Tyler his pastel colors AND his chords all are very very remiinescent of Neptunes sounds
Nigo influenced all of that not Pharrell🤦🏾♂️ Pharrell’s swag wasn’t influential before Nigo
This man just figured out how to be a kid his whole life
Kids do what they please without thinking about what others might say…. They truly are free spirited until they cave into society’s “rules and guideline” how everyone should have a uniform way of carrying themselves
Michael Jackson
@@whidoineedthis he didn't get to be a kid so its a lil different
@@emmanuelleroy2915hopefully i can get back to that feeling of not giving af. i lost myself along the way but now im on the road to finding that carefree part of myself once again😊
Such a legend. Always been a trendsetter from when he came with N.E.R.D and made the trucker hat fashionable.
super facts!!! ashton kutcher even stole his swag lol
really wish he woulve talked bout this in the doc more
was that before Von Dutch became popular?
I can't believe Pharrell is 49. Dude looks like he's 25
He's a vamp
He's, 25 for the 24th time
This is a bold lie. That man looks every bit of in his 40’s and that’s ok
Black don’t crack 🤷🏿♂️
Skin care routine goes godly man’s spawn camping his face blemishes at this point
This was so interesting but we need to include how Kelis actually shaped A LOT of his style identity shift that you speak of, she deserves her flowers for this and for helping his trajectory into high fashion
I cant really talk about pharrell's history but ever since i found out about him from Happy , i took interest , what a living legend he really isn't spoken about enough.
Pharrell been out since like 98 and been on top as an artist , designer, producer, just all out curator of all things timeless...super super SUPER legend also a case to be made that hes done everything Kanye aspired to do before Ye did and (MAYBE) even better....
@@maverikregime6885 hm you said something there
Happy....🤦
Damn you gotta be young asf
my goat at louis hahaahahahahahahahaha
Pharrell deserves all his flowers when we think of streetwear!! One of the original sneakers, jewelry and raw denim king! He has exquisite taste. Let’s not forget he’s been working with Chanel since Karl Largerfeld
This video gonna spike up now after the LV announcement. Props to you for being ahead of the game
It’s like you don’t know how to disappoint, this was such an obvious choice to do, yet I never even thought about it. May God Bless Thread, always enlightening us 😮💨
Pharrell was ahead of the curve musically and ESPECAILLY in fashion i dont think a single person was doing the Skateboarder streetwear trend before Skateboard P or the Japanese crazy wild colors before Bape and BBC. literally every single person bit P waves a true style god and innovator in all aspects and fecets shoutout to the gawd!! seen him doing so many creative things before they became cool AND he ALWAYS did it best 🙏🏾oh and lastly all of his work has aged SOO gracefully i still see people wear Bape BBC Ice Cream Human and anything else he touches like it never went out of style stuff he not only gets copied but gets recreated and worn like it just came out today because his genius is NEVER questioned..to me hes the most fashionable Icon weve ever seen in the culture point blank the ony other person giving him a run for his money is Kanye and itd truly be a fight to the finish.
Yess! I always felt like people in the hip hop community overlooked Pharrell’s and NERD’s/Neptunes influence in hip hop. This was much needed 🔥
Thank you for this. I was watching a bunch of fashion documentaries and Pharrell was right there front row but no one really talks about his influence in the fashion world
Always excited for these uploads!!!
This is such a great video, the story so well told and researched. Much respect! I'm following Pharell since his first Neptunes times and really looking forward what he'll do at LV.
A 40 minute video. WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED🤞🏾
This is excellent, and what a champ for providing us with a list of the source material!

Amazing video, learnt a lot , .. always found (and still find) his style fresh, cool, chill & chic L Love this channel & keep up the good vibes & work ✌🏻 Maybe a video about the history from the oldest (older then Hermes) Belgian leather bags company DELVAUX (they made a few y back a cool collab with the Rene Magritte foundation) Rene Magritte was a painter from Belgium
Great & unexpected video.. learned even more about Pharrell & a lot of this brought me back to a few years back.. great content & knowledge as always… if I can plzzz request a video on YSL, Dior, or Chanel
Criminally underrated channel
please post more often love the content
If anyone found this interesting I highly recommend the Jimmy Gorecki (JSP / Standard Issue Tees) episode of Throwing Fits podcast (originally called Failing Upwards) hosted by Jimmy Harris and Larry Schlossman who you may remember from Complex's "Fashion Bros" show. It's a great podcast, the guys are hilarious and if you're into menswear and pop culture it's a good listen. But anyways, the Jimmy Gorecki episode is tangential to this Pharrell video as he talks about his time skating for Ice Cream and shares some stories of Pharrell at the time. He goes on to talk about starting his own clothing companies JSP and standard issue tees (which I highly recommend the latter for high quality sweats).
the way you introduced nigo was so cooool 😭
please make one about issey miyake R.I.P ISSEY MIYAKE
My role model. Always been a major influence in my life. Whether it's the music he makes, clothes he wore or even the things he says. Love this dude to bits.
well done video, so long way but dude is still cool af he appreciate, respect people on every level. he went tfru a lot.
Any chance a number (n)one video may be coming??? Amazing video as always
Seriously THANK YOU as I learned alot from watching this. Now I know the whole story about Reebok which is crazy and being from Australia when BBC / Ice Cream originally dropped it was near to impossible to get. Good times though.
FINALLY. Been waiting for this
I genuinely think we will see a revival of Billionaire Boys Club in a few years like we’ve seen with other 90s brand, it was so much in the zeitgeist that itd be a shame if it was missed from the nostalgia wave
Damn I thought BBC has been back since 2016. A lot of people around my area still wear hella BBC / Ice Cream they even sell that shit at Nordstrom on the discount racks for like $30 bro
@@marcusanthony906 i meant more like a cultural revival more than anything
U did a GREAT job explaining why he is a GREAT FIT for LV❤️

Crazy video and content! Congrats 👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷
The “Business man” pun made me laugh bro! 😭😭😭😭😭😭👌🏽
The Pharrell and my mind avatars actually came in during social media era. It came out during the MySpace era, which I seen people on other social media sites that did not last long using the avatars. People often forget about zynga and black planet. I've had the internet in my household since 1995 I know a lot of kids my age weren't blessed that way. But the very first social media I knew of was called our town it was an AOL only social media and I created my profile in 1999. I've had a Zynga since 2001. I signed up from MySpace either the end of 2002 or the beginning of 2003.
This video saving my life during class 🙏
ur videos are awesome dude
Awesome video, thank you 😊🙌🏼👍🏼🇺🇦
