I really like how Volkanovski thinks. He truly has a champions mentality.
Volk has always been easy to root for but this is him at his most likeable. He still has the humility he came in with but now he is letting his confidence fly in these interviews and I'm here for it. Dude is respectful towards every opponent but also confident in the knowledge that he's one of the baddest men walking the planet right now.

Volk gets more likable everytime u see him. The rare “good guy” that doesn’t come off as fake or condescending at any point. Was NOT a fan after the 1st Max fight, LOVE this dude now. Respect
Volk is my favorite fighter on the current roster and one of my favorite fighters of all time. His striking is so swift. His focus in the cage is razor sharp. His will is unbreakable. And yet those Dagestanies are just something else. It’s very hard to imagine Volk winning this fight but damn I hope he proves me wrong. Can’t wait

Anything is possible, volk will definitely have better stamina and speed and Islam will have more strength and durability so I think it could go either way. If volk survives the first 3 rounds I believe he will win the fight bc he will tire Islam with his pace and then start breaking him down.

Perspective of an Aussie: I don't go in for Aussie rules football or anything else we do, but Alexander Volkanovski is my favourite Australian sportsman. He's my Donald Bradman, I'm so proud of Alex, and I would be starstruck to meet him for a second, but also feel like I'd immediately get along with him after that. He's both the greatest international sports athlete Australia has currently, and also the most ordinary Australian that I could see hanging out on Christmas day with. I've never been so proud since we had the Olympics I reckon.

@James Bailey Self-proclaimed best boxer in the UFC, which saying that just proves his low fight iq, I love max but let’s get real he fights at kick-boxing range as do most MMA strikers so grapplers don’t have an easy shoot for the takedown.

I just love Volkanovskis outlook and genuine confidence. This has the potential to be fight of the year, eventhough it will be early 23.

People always said after they fought Khabib that they did to much wrestling, obssessed over it to much and forgot about what their strengths were, what they did best and ended up fighting Khabibs fight not theirs. Volk seems prepared but ready to fight on his terms.
I will never forget how proud I was of Al Iaquinta for surviving five rounds, and for having a good game plan to bait Khabib into a striking match.

David Molloy, you will soon be reminded how everyone knew what Khabib or Islam was gonna do but no one could stop it. Islam nowadays doesnt even get hit. He is the best defensive striker in UFC. Look how few times he get hit. Volk never KO's people. Islam will submit him. Ortega was very close.

Ya in his defense though 145 doesn't have many grapplers in the top 10 other than ortega. Who obviously isn't on islams level. But that being said. It's hard to really judge his ground game strictly through ufc accomplishments to no fault of his own. He obviously wouldn't dodge a grappler if he's willing to go up in weight to fight the best grappler in the UFC lol

But no-one is talking on a mainstream level about some of our greatest Australian sports stars in MMA, and Alexander Volkanovski is such an egregious oversight. The whole country should be getting behind him.
Compared to when I started watching in 2009 you’d never get pubs around here showing the ufc, now there’s a massive picture of volk out the front of hotel Illawarra and even the Albion park pub shows the weekly fight night fights. I’m very excited for mma in Australia over the next 10 years I know it’s gonna get where we want it to be.
MMA just doesn’t have mainstream appeal. The sport is centred around violence that a lot of people find unpalatable. Not to mention the space is toxic af

@@ciuviskpl4837 islam has to get ahold of Volk , i see him using his speed / movement to stay away from islam. VOLK obviously knows that if he gets taken down & held down there's little to no chance that he will come out with a win. The man is P4P #1 for a reason, heck he beat Holloway ( maybe the best featherweight of all time ) 50-45 in their last/3rd fight hardly anyone can beat Max let alone THREE TIMES in a row. With all that being said I do see Islam getting the finish/winning the fight, HOWEVER it'll be a Great Competitive Matchup.

The way volk dominated zombie and max in their last fight really put me on volk, his hands were so crisp, his range was perfect. Two stellar performances I know zombie is a bit over the hill but it was still a really good display of volk skills.
We gotta remember too Max is probably the best non Champion and Alex beat him at his own game, Alex ain’t no ex boxer. If Alex can keep it standing and neutralize the wrestling at least for 3 rounds he has serious GOAT potential.
Don't forget Ortega.

Volk is a very cerebral fighter. He has a great grasp on technique and strategy. I think Makachev will be too strong for him, but I can never count such a great fighter out.

I think that might be the real difference in the fight: strength. I feel Volk will do fine striking against Islam, he even has the reach advantage and he’s faced powerful hitters with no issues; plus him being short and compact with those thick legs might be a huge help to stuff TDs or to stand right up. But looking at how close Ortega was at submitting him, I can’t help and think that if Makachev manages to pin him against the ground with that shoulder pressure, Volk will eventually drown. I hope he bulks properly so he can deal with Islams strength in the clinch and on the ground.
@@fernandoish9194 Exactly what I was thinking. When 2 fighters are matched in skill and technique, it's the strength that comes into play. People don't realize how strong Islam is because he's not bulky like a bodybuilder. But that dagastan rat is strong as an Ox from all his years of wrestling. If Alex can't gain mass and strength the proper way? It's all over for him and his team.

I had my doubts about volk pulling this off but hearing how he’s preparing gives me faith,especially what he said about other guys only preparing to not get taken down. I always thought that wasn’t the smartest way to approach the fight it’s like training for a striker and expecting to not get punched in the face
