Fantastic treasures found in the Bottle Dump! Searching the Mud with Nicola White
My good mudlarking buddy @Si-Finds invited me along to this magical bottle dump last weekend. Join us @Si-Finds, Florence Evans (@flo_finds), Monika Buttling-Smith (Mudika.Thames) and Anna Borzello (@foreshoreseashore) in this vast bottle dump where we get extremely muddy in pursuit of the treasures that the bottle diggers have left behind! What fun we had and what treasures from the past we found - all with stories we can only guess at!
In this video I am wearing a pipe charm necklace and also onion bottle silver earrings made by Wendy Meister. If you are interesting in purchasing any of her jewellery then her link is here and if you add the code PIPEQUEEN you will have a 15% discount

Listening to y’all talking about Harry Potter and other things makes me realize even more just how small the world really is. We all eat the same food and watch the same shows and have the same dreams. One large family all of us. Thank you for doing what you do. Love to watch ♥️♥️♥️
Fu** harry potter!
So true, love y'all too! Said in a British accent 🤣😍
I have often thought about this!
I absolutely love how you present your videos... They are very artful... I love the nature scenes, the explanations of your finds, the music, etc. Always a pleasure to watch... Thank you and hello from New Brunswick Canada!
She's the Guardian Angel. There are alot of paintings of her saving two children from falling thru a rotten wood bridge.
It's always a treat what women find interesting, beautiful and irresistible.
I am embarrassed to admit that when Simon greets us with "Hello Mud Lovers!" I always hear "Hello My Lovers!" Cracks me up every time. You all found wonderful treasures and I also enjoy reading old newspapers. I see new art in your Etsy shop today, still waiting to see a pottery shard fish!
Not only does it sound like he’s saying “Hello, my lovers,” but my caption generator usually renders “Si Finds” as “siphon.” So it seems Mr. Siphon has many paramours.
Linda, I heard the same thing! Then I realized a few moments later what he really said :)
AFAIK, it very likely is “Hello, my lovers,”, as it is a common expression of just friendliness, I think more common in the West Country.
@@flamencoprof yes, you are correct!
I watched several of his videos before I realized what he was actually saying.
I'm in love with the pig!
Thank you for letting us join your treasure hunt!
Completely amazing...one person's trash becomes our treasures. 🇺🇸🇬🇧
"The woman that can't be lifted" Brilliant! Love the olden days.
Such a joy watching everyone find lovely treasures! I could watch forever!
All of us are angels with but one wing. And when we find the friends with matching wings, we can truly fly.
My Fav Show On KZhead,Been Watching MudLarking For 😊 years❤
It looked like a nice time searching for long lost treasures. I particularly liked the newspaper from 1925. “Girl swallowed scissors while laughing” 😲
Yes how did she do that!? 😂
My mom inhaled a peanut while laughing, but there was a G&T involved...still, a great story still, some 40 years later...bridge night was never less boring...!
I paused it and read that story, the girl was from Blackpool and the hospital is the one she'd still be taken to now
Yes, I wonder what ever happened to poor Edna Bedford. Did she die from this?
yes did Edna Bedford survive?
Love your green pig, absolutely lovely.
Ohhhh I get it! You call these Bottle Dumps, because that's pretty much everything that's left in a regular dump from the era before plastic! Right? That is SO cool.
this was so much fun watching your group finding and choosing to keep a variety of treasures, i ESPECIALLY LOVED THE PIG AND THE ORANGE COLORED BIRD. tHANKS FOR SHARING.
You guys make a fantastic team! You're all so cheerful and positive even though covered in dirt. This dump trip was a nice diversion from the Thames, so thank you, Simon, and the Dump Divas for sharing your finds!
You and si finds are the perfect history hunting duo really enjoy watching you two
Thanks Connor!
When Si says, “ hello mud lovers “, it sounds like he’s saying hello my lovers 😂😂😂
That pig is EVERYTHING!!
Love you guys and you are having fun finding old "junk". The sadness is that it use to be part of someone's life and each find has a story left untold. Ms. Nicola, your story of how a message in a bottle changed your life is beautiful. Keep having fun!!!
Brilliant!! Yes, please, more of the Ladies Who Lark, no matter where. It was great that Anna even did camera work and commentary. Collectively, you all have a wealth of knowledge about the finds no matter where found. Always fascinating to watch the experts at work whether on the banks of the Thames or the banks of the Bottle Dump. Next time, remind Si that to really fit in he needs to wear his striped shirt, too. And I see Poppy was present and accounted for along with Jules. YAY! MORE, PLEASE! Thank you for sharing! You are ALL amazing!
Thank you 😘😍❤️
You need to open this up for those that want to travel and join you!!!
My idea of a good time! Thanks for sharing!
The rabbit pottery shard looks maybe part of a child's cup. I think the rabbit is from a series of children's books about Uncle Wiggley's adventures.
YIPES STRIPES!!! GREAT FINDS ARE EVEN MORE SPECIAL WHEN SHARED WITH GREAT FRIENDS. THANKS, NICOLA
Love the sound of the birds in the background.
When I was younger I loved going sharding (American here) and miss it an awful lot. To have found a place like that would've been the bee's knees -- and you'd have NEVER gotten me out of it!!
You have a very lovely heart warming smile that fills people hearts with joy
I told my friend that when I go to UK I was going to do some mudlarking. After I explained it they silently stared at me. They have no idea the joy that can be experienced while searching for a treasure from the past.
Ha ha that's so funny. I can just imagine the scene 😀
Need to be able to set up a mudlarking tour with you! In the autumn.. summer has been too bloody hot
I read that you need a permit, is that true? Cause I totally want to go too!!!
I'm from Philadelphia. One day while fishing the Delaware River in Port Richmond I came across some old broken china sticking out of the bank. I was fascinated by the colors and patterns on it. I think they call it blue Willow China. Had to be from the colonial period. Too bad it was all just broken pieces. I wanted to find just one whole plate or cup. It must have been from a very old home or cabin. Maybe trash from a ship docked there many years ago. Happy Thanksgiving !🦃🕊️🙏🇺🇸♥️
@@christyfray9412 Port Authority London...google it. It gives all the amounts and info. Learned that from Nicola and Si!!
what a happy bunch of diggers and what amazing finds...very envious of your productive day :-) Thanks for sharing a fun filled dig!
The twenties music spot on. Love it. Nice group of friends. Great show.
The dragon piece would make a lovely candle holder, planted to a base of a similar find or intertwined with driftwood to make a object d'art.
You can meet the loveliest of women in rubbish tips. 😂😂
Love the music Nicola. Sooo many complete artefacts !! But that boar is my favourite!
What a treasure chest of bottles, wow, fantastic finds and what a good crowd you all are sharing your wonderful hobby with us, MIND the overhanging bank where one of the guys was digging though!
In a perfect world I can see myself on holiday in England all excited not for the typical tourist fare but a bottle dump. LOL :)
Fabulous holiday! 😘
I would love to find a bottle dump, that would be a day well spent for me :)
I agree! Forget the tourist traps. Let’s go to a bottle dump or the Thames with Nic. 👍
Me too!!! 🇺🇸
absolutely. It would be a great adventure to visit this pit, the foreshore and other places Nicola and Si have shown us. The pig is absolutely one of the top finds I have seen. He would have a place of honor in my home.
When Anna popped up at the top of the dirt pile it was like a clip from an old Mad Max movie....
Ha ha ha yes! What is left from civilization !
I spent most of my teens and early 20's in spring and autumn, digging up bottles and other items in ye olde dumping spots---in my case 2 deep ravines by my home near Albany NY, filled with mid-Victorian to Depression era bottles and household item---incl. a milk glass hen's laying egg, a very early screw lid horseraddish jar, a broken Dundee Marmalade jar exactly like yours---plus torpedo-shaped soda water bottle and an totally intact early light bulb---plus an 1860's coin, an old flat iron and a nearly intact elaborately cut crystal lamp globe. I had so much fun...and I learned about those long-gone 'neighbors' who lived there before me....and the knowledge that I gained from doing research on my bottle finds, later, got me a gig as a tour guide at the National Bottle Museum in Ballston Spa NY.
Great to see people like yourselves on dumps.....such a big place...hate machine diggers wherever they go.....
I think you need to revisit that "dump"...really it is a goldmine of treasures! Wonderful treasure day for you all.
“Peoples life’s from the past “ ... Incredible finds ✨✨✨✨✨
😮omg you guys were finding so much super cool things
So many stories behind these lovely pieces. The pig is lovely, as is the angel and the prince of Wales bottle, and the dragon. Oh, and I’m jealous! Flo has RED bottles, 😕
1:20 When you said the "The first thing I've spotted is..." I really thought it was going to be a pipe! That pig is pretty neat though.
The old newspaper reminded me of one of my archives. I collect historical recordings from the late 1800's to 1969 (a few newer ones) of important events, news broadcasts, wartime news and military broadcasts. Often times when listening to them I forget that I'm listening to old time radio because many of the stories and events are the same as current stories and events. Many of the same locations as now, only the names have changed.
Nicola, what draws me to your uploads time and time again is your gracious attitude to others and your joy at discovering the items and imagining who used them and the story behind them. I don’t mudlark or bottle dig but I do a little beachcombing, so I know the thrill of discovery. Next week I’ll be on a beach with my eyes peeled for pottery shards and anything intriguing. Thanks.
Also the curiosity to research the found items and their history. Then relaying that knowledge on to us viewers. Without the historical research the channel and finding "things" in the mud wouldn't be nearly as appealing to me. I am a history buff, so I really enjoy that part of this channel.
Great Roundup Nicola! I too love that pig, it's priceless! Many other fine collectables found. It's dirty yes; but somehow it looks cleaner than the Thames...must be the lack of mud. It all looks like fun no matter whether you're wet or dry! Haha.
Hello guys; I looked carefully at the proverbs from the "Adagia" of Erasmus and I noticed that you discovered the one which was missing; here it is: "As time passes, all the dwellers of a dump will be appreciated either a green pig or a dragon as well as an angel". Thanks for sharing and have a nice mudy day.🤣🤣
Try salt and vinegar to clean the inside of bottles. That is how we cleaned glass coffee carafes at a bakery I worked in.
I forgot to add an important part. You add ice and swirl it around.
Or baking soda & vinegar works as well :)
CLR takes it all off
I’m spending so much time watching ALL of you videos, I’m obsessed!
WOW! What a great dump, such interesting finds and all of you together, a pleasure to watch! Best regards!💐💐💐💐💐
How exciting it must feel to find the full complete pieces! So crazy to think of all the special antiques that get thrown in the landfills ..especially here in the usa where the younger generation doesnt seem to care about antiques or heirlooms..theyre choosing to be minimalist..yuck!
You are correct, Keeler's was a restaurant on State Street in Albany, New York, the capital city of that state. It was in business from 1884 to 1969 and a favorite of Albanians (no, not people from Albania, but the citizenry of Albany!) for generations
More likely someone visited there and sliped the plate into there bag as a souvenir
Nicola that pig was the great find of a day full of exciting fun and adventure. Quite enjoyable nicely done video can't wait for the next.
Hi Nicola, I am from The Potteries in Stoke on Trent and my Mum and Grandad used to work at Minton Hollins Factory, My mum was a paintress, and my Grandad was a joiner on the Maintenance side, And my Dad and myself used to work for Royal Doulton, I was a Gilder and my Dad like my Grandad worked on maintenence as an Electrician. That is an amazing find at the bottle dump, well done.
Hi, I find it amazing that people just threw away such lovely things, your so lucky to find them, I've enjoyed every one of your videos.
Thank you Vincent! X
Can I become a "Dame of the Dump" too? I ABSOLUTELY love your adventures at the dump!
The piggy is adorable.
That background music. LMAO ! 15:18. Loved this episode. Wow.
I was listening to your friend speaking of beads. We use ice and salt. The salt works as an abrasive. You swish is around and around and it cleans really nice. It will not harm the glass. Soaking the glass for a bit will help before. This also works well for the inside of your coffee or tea pots to get the stain from inside. Hope this helps.
Hello. Here in Northern New York state, US, we tend to favor white vinegar/bicarbonate soda soak; or denture tablets; or hydrogen peroxide; or Bar Keepers Friend (BKF); or a product called CLR (calcium, lime, rust). Lark On, ladies. And Si, the history guy.🌿
Always a pleasure to watch these finds being unearthed after centuries of rest Keep up the great vids and epic finds thanks for taking us along,
That was fun, love the pig, best find of the day!! I don't know how I missed this one, glad I found it! Have a great week!
My gosh I wish I could have been there. We find many bottles and jars .mostly around old dumps or old outhouses. We found in our garden a beautiful Wedgwood plate with a Rooster on it.
My brother has been posted to Germany and is hiking and exploring on the weekends. He just sent me a picture via What's App of a German Vulcanite stopper he found. He didn't know what it was and I didn't know Germans used them. I'm trying to get him to go to Verdun. Awesome video! The newspapers are fascinating! I was talking to my friend who owns a pawn shop about a Tsar Nicolas II gold coin I want to buy, he went to the back and came out with a gold 1811 40 Francs with Napoleon I on it. It had Groz, visible only with a loop, inscribed in fine letters on the bust. Jean Pierre Groz worked at the Soho mint once too. And we Americans tried to lure him here when we opened our first mint in 1794. 😝Awesome video!
Thank you x
The boat held salt pepper and mustard I think ,,, another fab video Nicola !! thank you ,, LOVE your porker !!!
Nicola! - Absolutely delightful video. Loved that you had the whole "gang" (minus a few) assembled together. Great group pics at the end too! I am not normally a "bottle fan" but I do love decorative pieces such as Monica's perfume bottle at 16:20 & Flo's cranberry perfume bottle at 20:20. Also a sucker for porcelain, stoneware, & ceramic tile bit's & bob's. Great job everyone!!!
Bee bummies! Yay! Seriously LOVE that pig!! What fun you all must have digging around! Sell me that piggy!!
Flo’s lustreware viking ship is the base for a “Condiment Set”, that would have housed a salt and pepper shaker, and most likely a small lidded mustard pot. Probably made in Japan.
Brenda Soler. My thoughts also!
I thought so as well. Sometimes there would be small holes just below her waist to be able to attach a dress using a needle. Great video. Greetings from Trinidad.
I am so jealous! It would be hard to leave once you got started! Looks like the perfect day to me!
This is the best. Since i cant be with yall in England. This is the next best thing. Best from Texas !
The piggy is my favorite find
This certainly has promise as a nature channel! Maybe start a new series on that since you are out and about with the birds and the bees so much. :)
Hi Nick of the Dump, the value of the items you find may not be great but you make them into priceless treasures. Thank you.
Thank you Marc
Oh wow, I absolutely LOVE it when you speak French, Nicola!
Thrilling adventure Nicola, thanks for letting me tag along!
Love all the figurals, esp the one-winged angel. Did some Googling on your pub bottle. In 1891, there was a Charles Harris, victualier, occupying the Prince of Wales Pub at 99-101 Willesden Lane, Kilburn. Seems to be consistent with the age of the bottle. Happy larking!
Charlie! Thank you so much.thats fabulous. I didn't think in a million years that I'd find the actual pub. Thank you!
Your one-winged angel is very like one seen in the 'Millennium' episode 'Midnight of the Century'. There, it was a link between someone in 1948 and someone in the 1990s. Quite spooky, in fact.
Figurals???
Oh, how I wish I lived near you! I'd love to go poking around there! Your little piggy was a brilliant find, and the angel and dragon were awesome! And I agree, the bird was magnificent! Thank you for allowing me to accompany you vicariously! I love it!
Si and the Mudlarkettes Great video Nicola
Such good finds over there! Oh that piggy is the gem of the day. Love it!
Always nice to be out with Si-finds. I followed the live stream. Again nice finds.
Splendid adventure and finds. I can almost hear the Beatles' song "Junk" in the background while you show off your various treasures. Please do more of these videos -- I'm hooked!
All those bits and pieces were treasures at one time now abandoned in a rubbish tip, their stories lost for eternity. As a pig collector, I have to say I absolutely love that little porker you found. Congratulations and hugs from a hot and sunny Canada.
Wow you guys know how to have fun. Famous Five eat your hearts out x
I wanna see you stick little fairy lights through the eyes of those dolls heads for a right spooky Halloween decoration!
David Farmer the lights, if orange or red, would be very creepy!
Mum went to Yarmouth and all I got was this kitschy nut dish.
That’s was a great video. When ever y’all get together it’s fun to see the different items you enjoy to collect.👍 .... And I got a glance of the bottle I have with the marble in it. 😎😃🤓😃
I would be in heaven searching through there!!!!!
Great finds , its wonderful that some stuff is still in one piece , very nice , i like , love from the great karoo
That was fun to watch! Glad all the girls got the memo to wear a striped shirt.
Its a Treasure if Mudlarkers! Thanks for all the new Instagram additions!
What great finds and great found! Love the glaze on Sir 🐖 Pig
I absolutely love that beautiful green pig!!!!!! Some really nice ceramics and the Boots bottle is nice and the tile looks interesting too!!!
I knew a man who lost his life bottle digging. He was in a trench that he had dug, only chest deep but unsupported by any shoring. The trench closed on him faster than he could jump out and he suffocated. I also knew the friend who was with him that day, too far from anywhere to get help and was forced to watch him die with his head and shoulders above ground level. The man who died left a wife and two children, his bottle digging friend was never the same. Please be careful.
Yes you're right you have to be so careful. Absolutely correct
Did this in an old dump I discovered in the field across from our house in Pretoria. Mum and I excavated huge holes, you stare at the blank wall in front of you and poke in and the welcome " ting" sound and you start digging something exciting out! A commerative mug of The Prince Of Wales visit 1922 is a treasured find.
Lovely flowers and insects!
I would have to say , Mr. Boar is your top find!! Thank you for taking us along!
My Mother’s Grandmother’s family ( Nicholas Christian, of Episcopalian church) had Bourne family relation, Historical Society told me!
Absolutely love bottle dumps esp on old railway bankings ,this bottle dump is amazing would love it x
My favourite finds are the bottles because they are re- usable 👍🏻 but I also like the clay pipes .
