Kelly Slater's Monumental Road To Victory - 2022 Billabong Pro Pipeline

2023 ж. 22 Қаң.
216 313 Рет қаралды

After an epic week on Oahu's North Shore, Kelly Slater won the Billabong Pro Pipeline. Beating Seth Moniz in a generational clash for the ages, Slater, who was a week away from turning 50 years old, started the 2022 Championship Tour with a huge, statement-making victory.
Winning his first Championship Tour event at Pipe back in 1992, this marks 30 years since Slater first topped the podium. It's the eighth win at Pipe for the 11-time World Champion. Slater's last win at Pipe came in 2013. His last CT win came at the 2016 Billabong Pro Tahiti.
As the epicenter of the surf universe and the birthplace of the sport, it’s only right for Pipeline to kick off the Championship Tour. Everyone enters the season with equal hopes of winning it all. The rookie class is thrown into the fire, the contenders return with one thing on their minds, and the surf world begins to follow the road to the Rip Curl WSL Finals. Pipeline sets the tone.

  • Kelly is a living legend. He is what Tom Brady is to football. He makes the Hawaiians proud because he's done so much for the sport. He's living the dream. He's constantly pushing his limits. I commend his discipline, his passion, and the love n grace he shows. Nothing but love n aloha for this braddah. Win or lose. He will always be the big kahuna of surfing.

    • @@Marauak You are right, Kelly is a Monster in Competition, no doubt. Technically perfect, disciplined, fearless, you name it. But it seems to me that his motor is the will to be the best, to win. Not to explore, to have fun, to play, like Kai is. With technical, mental and physical skills beyond human. And this is what surfing spirit is to me: to find yourself in surfing. To be an explorer like Robby, Laird etc. Kelly seems to find himself in winning.

Air dropping pipe and just sneaking in that bottom turn less than a second before getting hit by the lip and having a potentially life threatening situation, only to make it out a crazy deep barrel. He had every right to be emotional after that one, it was divine intervention at work.

Like Tiger he's won almost everything, has a buttload of records and amazingly after a decade or so they both won the most greatest event on tour. Tiger......The Masters eleven years before and Kelly...Pipeline after nine years. Un-freaking-believable.

  • Your Boards are your problem KS try a board by a guy that you see looking like he and the board are one unit like adriano for instance. if you never played around with so many shapes and designs you would own a few more titles than you have now that's the hard truth I have watched you surf since you appeared on the tour back in the late 80's and I have seen your boards get worse each decade since you left your mentor Al Merrick, go back to him ask him for advice? make you some boards, before it's too late your ability is still there ,but your boards let you down when it counts, not at cloudbreak ofc, there you rule :D

  • I am a fan of the CT coverage but WSL, you severely disappoint me with the the overdubbed, over the top commentary on these clips. Jesus gimme a break. The live commentary (I watched these heats) is plenty good enough. Don't get ahead of yourselves and go all ESPN on us - the realness of pro surfing stands on its own when the waves are really good... THATS what y'all should be focused on. Yes, the top surfers are very compelling on their own merit based on both talent and personality, but when the waves really show out - that is when the magic happens. THAT is what the WSL should really work on putting out there as content. I know mother nature is fickle, but that is where the real "star power" lives. Just sayin' as a lifelong surfer
