  • Raising and lowering the anchor point helps with vertical accuracy. Lowering the anchor point as the target gets further away. The part I was struggling with was horizontal shooting, which this video solved. Using the same spot on the forks for aiming: -Raise the anchor point to shoot lower. -Lower the anchor point to shoot higher. -Rotate the forks clockwise to shoot to the left. -Rotate the forks counterclockwise to shoot to the right.

    • Welcome to the sport :) This problem is generally because you are not holding/releasing the pouch properly. If there is a 'tweak' or a 'speed bump' then the shot goes awry. Pinch between your fingertips and keep your elbow level or just above :)

  • Mate I'm cross dominant which means for all purposes I'm a righty. But when it comes to target sports I'm left eye dominant which means I'm a lefty. There are excellent videos on KZhead to find your dominant eye which is gr8 to know once you are starting out.

  • Was a great vid indeed. I’m new to this sport and amazed on the accuracy that can be achieved. Tomorrow evening I’m going to apply the points you’ve made. One ? Though At 10 meters would the clay balls, 3/8” or 9mm, bought on Amazon, would these achieve the accuracy to hone my skill, or should I just go directly the steel bearings?

    @ventures1@ventures1 Жыл бұрын
    • I have never shot clay balls because I heard that they are incredibly inaccurate. Something to do with being lightweight and not perfectly spherical. My suggestion for you is to get a bulk lot of 6mm ball bearings and some really light bands (like 0.45mm cut 20/12) and use them until you get pretty accurate. Small BBs and light bands are cheap and easy to shoot (less tiring on the fingers)

      @theferalphilosopher-huntin1372@theferalphilosopher-huntin1372 Жыл бұрын
    • Best way to do it is I think buy the size of BB Ur guna shoot mostly with to hunt and stuff that way you won't need to adjust from smaller weight to larger weight, make a target box like in vid and reuse the bbs.

  • Practice makes nearly perfect. I like to use the corner of my frame as a reference point. Without a good ref point, you'll find you rely on instinct rather than a measurable metric. Once you're found your reference point, you then need to practice, practice, practice, and then practice some more. I would strongly recommend getting some targets, like spinners or chalkys to hone your accuracy. If you practice on rabbits, you'll probably got one (maybe through plain luck) and you'll just injure it, and you'll feel rotten about it - believe me. You need to have obtained a high ratio of consistent accurate hits _before_ you hunt live prey. The key for me was doing _exactly_ the same thing for each and every shot. Consistency is the key. The following is offered in a constructive, respectful way: You've made a decent video, with some basic 'best practice' , but if your serious about shooting a catapult, it's best to learn _first_ before trying to teach others.

    @michaelggriffiths@michaelggriffiths Жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for the suggestion :) My channel is intended to be a work in progress, but also I'm hoping to raise the profile of slingshot here in NZ. Judging from the comments I have been getting people are happy to see the misses and mistakes I make. I know from experience that watching extremely good shooters all day can be frustrating because it makes it seem super easy, and we all know that it is not. I'm sorry that there was nothing useful for you in this video but hopefully if you come back in a year or two my shooting might be up to scratch by then :)

    • I found that accuracy is all in the consistency. Pick a routine to line up your shot and follow it exactly a hundred times, even if you miss. What you will see is that you should miss the exact same every time. Then change one small thing and try again, repeat until you dial in that consistency. If you keep missing randomly it means that you aren’t doing the exact same movements each time.
