Ferrari 328 GTS Review | A Classic Analog Ferrari You Must Own
Ferrari 328 GTS Review. Today we have a beautiful 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS in Nero over Crème interior with 8k original miles. The Ferrari 328 is the revised version of the iconic Ferrari 308 from the late 1970s. Iconic because at the time Ferrari and Pinninfarina were all about the wedge shape designs integrating vents, ducts and the coke bottle silhouette profiles as part of their cars functionality and designs with models such as the 308, 512 BB and the 328. The Ferrari 328 was made from 1985 through 1989. In mid 1988 Ferrari revised the suspension and braking system to incorporate Anti Lock Brakes, which was their first model to have such option. The easiest way to identify an ABS 328 is by the profile of the wheels. Earlier cars had a more concave wheel profile where as the ABS cars were more convex. So when you work and maintain these cars you really need to make sure you order the correct parts from your Ferrari parts source as subtle things such as brake rotors, steering racks and more are unique to the 1988.5-89 models.
The 308 and 328 are some of the most recognizable Ferrari’ ever made due to their popularity with Hollywood movies and television shows such as Magnum PI where the 308 GTS was almost the feature of every episode as Tom Selleck whizzed around Hawaii as an 80s heartthrob. We also saw this debut in the legendary movie Cannon Ball Run where the Rat Pack Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin were impersonating priests in high-speed pursuits on their comedic rally. We also saw the Ferrari 308 in National Lampoons Vacation with super model Christie Brinkley speeding by Clark Grisswald.
Hollywood was smart to use the Ferrari 308 because of how beautiful the car was and it also sparked interest and increased sales. These cars are just timeless to look at and so special to get behind the wheel so come along for the ride today and learn more about the 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS and why this is the best classic Ferrari to own. Analog Perfection at an affordable entry into Ferrari ownership.

I did 121,000 miles in a 1984 308 GTS QV. Never had a single breakdown yet I thrashed the hell out of it every day. Most reliable car I have ever owned. Thinking about getting another.
Did you ever get another?
Yes the worst thing you can do for a car is not use it,that way your average ferarri owners treat there cars like an decorative ornament 😊
I've always loved the 308/328. I prefer the exterior of the 308 and interior and drive train of the 328. Gorgeous iconic vehicle
Had my 328 for over 20 years. A bit old and worn out to drive it much anymore.(me that is). Still, nice to have in the garage.
I owned the last year of production for the Ferrari 308GT4. Designed by Bertone as a 2+2 mid-engine wedge shape, giving the driver a forward driving position, with a shorter front hood and a better view of roadway for easier entering & exiting corners. So, do yourself a favor and test drive a GT4, before you buy a any 308 GTB/GTS. Mine was also the last of the Weber Carb. 308's, that made that vintage Ferrari music. After, 26 years of owning my GT4, it amazed me how reliable it was. The only time I needed a flatbed was for a waterpump failure. To date, I have yet to find another car that pushes all the right buttons, as my Ferrari.
we are doing some highly detailed restoration on the chassis of this car very soon we may shoot some content on this we will see how this project evolves. these cars are amazing
They don’t make such cars anymore. Real driver’s car, all about the experience and theatre. Nice one Phil. More such videos please.
thanks for watching glad you enjoyed this one
Do the series Phil. This was one of your very best videos and reviews. God dang you like that car. You got me fired up to find one. I always liked the 308 from Magnum. I never really checked out a 328. Thank You very much Phil. This was an awesome production...congrats
yeah these cars are so awesome I started watching lots of videos on resto modded versions and I honestly can see myself building up one of those for myself one day.
Both classic and modern-day sports cars look curvy and beautiful, but the cars of the 1980's looked POWERFUL and FAST!
Great review Phil. Well done Phil. Thanks Phil.
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent review of the 328! Yes, they are indeed fantastic. One minor nitpick is that all ABS 328s came with the convex wheels, BUT, not all of the 88 cars came with ABS. It was optional on the earliest ones, becoming standard later on. All 89s for example had ABS as standard IIRC.
Thanks for the info! the one I was looking at buying two years ago was disclosed as an 88.5 model it had these convex wheels but did have ABS i think it goes based on the VIN# sequence on these as this option was added midway towards the end of production. I also think ABS on these older cars is not needed considering how careful we drive them these days. Thanks for watching this review.
@@autofanaticcars with Ferrari, one never knows. VIN sequencing wasn’t always consistent. And that was across all models. On the Mondial 3.2, they offered ABS beginning in 1987. But it was optional at the start of that year. All 3.2 cars had convex wheels beginning in 86. My 3.2 coupe is an 87, but didn’t have ABS. It’s true, driving it carefully, it really hasn’t been needed. Supposedly those early systems are a bit more maintenance to do.
yeah the earlier ABS is a bit funky how they work even on the F355 it feels so slow to respond compared to any modern car. Back then Mercedes and BMW had the best integration of ABS systems i feel. I have my radar out to find a 328 now and I am looking at the 87-89 cars specifically. Shoot me some photos of yours via email would love to check it out and chat some more.
@@autofanaticcars ok, will do. either today or tomorrow I'll get in touch via email.
Great review! 👍
Thanks! 👍
Use to love watching magnum just so I can see his red Ferrari
yes same here
same here - been in love with these cars ever since
Great and honest review ! Here in Australia anything but a rosso corsa (red) if you find one, easily adds $80 - 100k to the 328 GTS's value. I am envious of the black coloured one you're driving.
thanks for watching and yes this nero on creme is not only rare but gorgeous. These cars really stand out in non traditional specs.
Yes more content on the 328
Yes film a documentary of that rarri 🔥💯💪
Yes, I'd like to see the work you do on the car.
Coming soon!
The mid eighties is the sweetspot for both Ferrari and Porsche 🎉
absolutely true these were hand built low volume works of automotive art. they are over producing cars today to satisfy their stock holders pockets/ Check out the restoration videos on this 328 GTS on the channel it is now one of the best in the world.
@@autofanaticcars thanks for your advice. I'm about finished restoring my 328 but it's always nice to see
Wow Phil perfectly said.♥️🏁♥️🏁♥️🏁🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏
Yes!
They should remake these cars. Only with modern engines and gearbox and suff
Awesome video and review. Compared to owning a 348 or 355F1, how would you describe cost of ownership / maintenance?
Hi the 308 and 328 are much easier to own and maintain than lets say a F355 or Testarossa, based on labor to do major stuff on the engines and cost of actual parts. All of the older cars are great to actually work on yourself if you are capable and enjoy doing such. The 308 and 328 belt service is very easy and the parts are cheaper and the engine does not need to come out all the time or even at all for that matter so this is always the big fear people have with these older Ferrari models. Overall I absolutely love the 328 GTS and would like to own one someday they will never go out of style.
@@autofanaticcars thanks for the quick response!
These Ferrari 308/328 body styling/looks is definitely its plus points with the all around double wish bone suspension. As for the engine its the power band usable between 4500 ~ 7000 RPM is a bit disappointing.
another movie was "Against al Odds" with Jeff Bridges and James Woods doing a great chase scene in a 911 and a Black Ferrari.
ah yes i saw that movie last year again that was a pretty insane scene seeing both cars swerve to badly in and out of cars and the smiling Samoyed chilling
blast
Beautiful, it's kind a bargain if you can afford it. Seems like the absolute sweet spot car
Couldn't agree more! values are now much higher than the last two years good ones are 160-250k now depending on miles
so beautiful.
Thank you! 😊
What about feeler gauge adjustment of the valves... According to servicecost?
thats really not hard on these cars you can easily do it with the engine in place
My nonno has that Ferrari and it is a monster on the road I like it
I’m considering selling my 308 and getting a 328.
Both great but 88-89 328 is better car
When I bought my 87 Mondial 3.2 cab, the same dealer had an 87 328 gts which was owned by the CEO of Al Italia airlines. Same price. Had two small kids so wanted the Mondial. What r u going to do?
I would've sold the kids and buy the 328.😂
1:16 - Looks like the car from the Nintendo game "Rad Racer".
What's your shops name?
Goobi!
at that time driving a vw gti 16 v was much fun..
No need to over rev let the car flow
🔥♥️🔥💯💯♥️♥️🏁💯🏁♥️🏁♥️🏁💯
412 had ABS in 1985.
never knew about that but i rarely ever see one of know anyone with one thanks for sharing that info with us.
Fun fact a base Giulia 2.0 has more power then 328 gts
No one gives a fk about that Alfa Romeo 😂
You cannot even compare the two cars. The 328 is 10 times better in every way, but still far too slow as Ferrari just sold cars on their name only. The 308 was a massive joke, and the 328 needed at least another hundred horsepower to consider as at least a performance car.
this was make to fool americans
