    • I love my 2 door. That being said, after wheeling with many many 4 doors, I want one. The extra room is great and if properly built with a good driver they'll go anywhere a 2 door will and even up some taller obstacles as that wheel base helps from tipping. My next jeep will probably be a 4 door.

  • Most of people driving the 4 dr. would do just as well in the 2 dr. 99% of the time . I picked the 2 dr. , it is so much easier to park in a big city and easier to get through rough narrow trails. 2 dr. is less expensive , sucks less gas and has an original Jeep look. I give two thumbs up to the 2 door legend.

    • I love my two door! And you're 100% correct, for most people 99% of the time a four door would do just fine off-roading with a lift and some nice tires. That break-over angle is a godsend when needed though. -Zach

  • I've had my 2 door JK for almost 6 years now, and when wheeling side by side next to a buddy's 4 door, it definitely does better on the trail. However, with my Jeep also being my daily driver, there are MANY times I wish I had the 4 door to haul people and cargo better. So my two cents is buy the 4 door if you do more daily driving, and buy the 2 door if you do more off-roading

    • I'm am just the opposite. Because of my off road use I needed the 4 door. Just water for 4-5 days would fill the back of the 2 door. Add food, camping kit, photography gear, the rifle and dog I'm maxing out the JKU! :)

  • They both have their + & - but I've always liked the 2 door and I can add things like a roof rack and so on. I don't do anything like this alone so there are other vehicles we can use for hauling more stuff. If you've got a ton of stuff you're not camping your moving. If you need that much stuff to camp try a 4×4 pickup. But because it's long you might just need to find an easier trail to camp. Or lift kits for all.

  • At 5:20 in this video you show why I never wheel with my hardtop on my Jeep. Too easy to destroy offroad. I just use a cheap Bestop Bikini top to keep the rain and snow off of me... I usually leave the full doors at home as well and run some cheap half doors that I don't care too much about damaging.

  • I also think what tire size/ how extreme you plan to build is a huge factor. That 2 door looked great with 35s but they looked small on the 4 door. So 35s or under I would go with the 2 door, but if I was doing something like swapping axles to D60s and running 40s and a taller lift... 4 door all the way. just my $.02

  • 2 door for sure, for the added capability, (especially out here in the woods of the Northeast). I'm sure the 4 door is a nice luxury on road for the extra space / passenger room / ride comfort, but that's not why I bought a Jeep - (in my experience, and the vid shows that difference pretty well). Wheel what u got though - and have fun ;)

    • Rick & Zack Explore Offroad - Hey Rick. I checked out a few of your vids, (very well done, by the way - looks pro. I'm lucky to remember to stick the GoPro to the windshield most of the time!). Actually brings back memories.....I spent about a decade living in NV and enjoyed the off road experience there. Miles and miles of overland trails......what freedom - just pick a direction, (I kinda used the Zach method - not much planning, lol). I now live back where I grew up, in New England, where IMHO, the 2 door edges out the 4 door, (my wife and I have no issues with packing enough gear for weekend camping trips, (first thing I did was to remove the rear seat, lol), and I've been thankful of the tight wheelbase and break over angle advantage quite a few times on tight trails). Gotta admit.....it's not all utilitarian....some % of my desire to own the 2 door is nostalgic as well. The look / feel is iconic......everything I remember my Jeeps being in the past, but better. Enjoy - and be safe...

    • Thanks for the compliment, and Zack is telling me "I told you so" :) I had a navy buddy from MA, spent some time up there back in the day. Beautiful country. I am planning on removing the 60 part of the 60/40 split rear seat. Plan on some sort of box to hold water containers, low and centered. Even the JKU rapidly runs out of space.

The sleeping height is only 20" thanks to the sound bar. My remaining challenge.. modify it for more interior height.. better yet, get it right out of the way as in saw the effing thing off!

  • It really depends on the obstacle. A 4 Door will sometimes have the advantage due to its longer wheel base but a 2 Door more often than not has the advantage.

    @vertisce2845@vertisce2845 Жыл бұрын
  • I agree generally speaking that the maneuverability of the JK is better. However there are situations where the longer wheelbase of the JKU is an advantage. To me it was down to how I intended to use it. I could not carry enough supplies in the 2 door for even a short trip of 3-4 days. The Unlimited had to be the choice.

    @RickZackExploreOffroad@RickZackExploreOffroad6 жыл бұрын
    • Are you packing your house? In my two door I just pop out the back seat and there is enough room for almost a weeks worth of stuff (if packed correctly) and I can still use my center rear mirror. Looking to get a roof rack though so I don’t have to strategically place every single little thing. It’s also worth it to know that I only pack for myself, the other people I camp with carry their own stuff. I will agree though that for multiple people the 2 door will not work, it’s simply too small. But even then though on a roof rack and you can add one more persons worth of stuff to the vehicle.

  • I did a lot of off road exploring in a 1975 GMC Sierra K-15 2-door pickup with a short bed, in the High Desert and the Eastern Sierra in California. (I never heard the term overlanding back then, but that is what it seems to be called now.) The wheelbase was 115 inches, much shorter than a modern 4 door pickup, and 3 inches shorter than a current Jeep Wrangler 4-door and 18 inches longer than the Jeep 2-door. So it was perhaps comparable to off roading the 4-door Jeep in some ways, but of course due to the narrower width it would have been easier with the 4-door Jeep in spots where I could barely fit the Sierra between the trees. But the Jeep 2-door would been good in situations where it was necessary to turn around on a tight trail. I don’t have a spec for the turning radius of the Sierra, but it was very short for a full size pickup. I would assume the Jeep 2-door is a much tighter turning radius, and perhaps the Jeep 4-door is shorter also. As for the Jeep Gladiator, it’s wheelbase is 22 inches longer than the Sierra was, so what advantage it’s narrower width offered over the Sierra would be more than offset by the long wheelbase.

    @allenw969@allenw9692 жыл бұрын
  • I love my 2 door, being only ever me and rarely a passenger. It's really all the size I need, that being said I want to get into overlanding. It would be nicer having more space for storage and Id love an ersa minor camper top if only they made one for the 2 door. But I do want to make my 2 door into an awesome little overland rig.

    @tylorhughes4484@tylorhughes44845 жыл бұрын
    • Your 2 door should hold a roof rack & a roof top tent with a low profile plastic shell. If that's not in your budget buy a regular dome tent or a tent that ties to a few trees to keep you off the ground & out of the mud if it rains.

    • Incredibly biased review. I’ve had both vehicles, and you completely ignored the many virtues of a longer wheelbase offering. You fail to report the many custom 4x4 two doors that have had their wheelbase extended. Try going over a steep ledge and watch yourself endo!! Try the same thing going up, and watch yourself loop it! Now try it over a whooped out two track, or long rugged trail. There are many other advantages, but these are among the many reasons the 4 door, long wheelbase, was created and why it out sells all the Jeep from the past. Short wheelbases have advantages, and they’re great in some places, but this video is not objective, or completely honest. The sad part is you should know better, and you do a disservice to budding enthusiasts!!

  • I've had a 2dr Jk, a 4dr JKUR, and now a 97 TJ Sahara ... the 4dr rubicon was the most difficult to wheel and you have to lift it higher to do the same obstacles ... wheel base benefit on east coat isn't worth it imo from a strictly wheeling perspective

    • HeartAE86 I live out West and at a place like Moab or the Rubicon Trail on steep inclines 2dr Jeeps will roll back because they lack the wheel base. With a 4dr I can always lift it more to increase the break over angle. Don’t get me wrong I like both but prefer the 4dr for all the other advantages it gives you. There’s a reason the 4dr Out sells the 2dr.

  • Sweet ! You running the standard front axle on the maroon 2-door or is it upgraded to the 44 ? Couldn't quite tell. I'm in the market and wondering if the smaller one is OK for 35's for mild-moderate trail use.. nothing too wild.

    @g.fortin3228@g.fortin3228 Жыл бұрын
    • Both are on stock axles! So the 2-Door has a 30 in the front and 35 in the, I beleive. The 4-Door Sahara has a 44 in the rear. Honestly if all you're planning on is daily driving and mild trails, off-road paths or overlanding I wouldn't worry about swapping axles. Once you start doing more moderate trails and rock crawling though, you do want to consider beefing up your axles to help with the larger tires. -Zach

    @bpb210@bpb210 Жыл бұрын
  • 2 door looks better has a smaller turning radius shorter wheel base.in some cases off road the 4 doors model works better because of its longer wheel base.and if u have passengers the 4 doors hands down easier access to the back seats for passengers and gear and more room for storage. So it your own preference. There's nothing like a jeep period.

  • This may be a silly question, but what year or model is the best for the 2 door? Does it matter? I'm looking to buy one to go off roading and haul my camper ( 2,500 lbs) cross country, so I would need it to be automatic, but I know that's not standard for quite a few years. Thanks!!

    @autumn4191@autumn4191 Жыл бұрын
    • I don’t think it matters what year but the 4 door would do better towing cross country. I think the two door tops out at 2500 towing for stability reasons. The JL (newest wrangler model) which came out in 2018 has an 8 speed automatic which may be beneficial for towing.

  • For the people that are new to Jeeps watching this I wanted to add that the "Rubicon" version of these Jeeps would do even better than what you see in the videos, and the reason for that is that the "Rubicon" has what's called "lockers". These "lockers" will get all 4 of your wheels turning simoutinausly which will get you over those obstacles with a bit more ease and less effort.

  • It’s so subjective. 2 door is slightly better for off-roading, but are you really gonna be doing things that are extreme enough to matter? Four door is a better ride, but that only matters if the 2 door ride actually bothers you. Do you need the extra space? Some do, some don’t. People complain about the “daily driver” qualities of Jeeps in general. I’ve had a TJ, a JK, and now a JL and I’ve never really had any complaints about any aside from when my kids were in the back of the TJ 2 door, you couldn’t really put much of anything back there. Is the ride quality as good as an suv? No, but I don’t care about that. It’s fine for me.

    @jacqueline5064@jacqueline50644 жыл бұрын
    • All comes down to personal preference! I recommend test driving both to see which you prefer better, honestly. The automatics come with a "manual mode" too, where you can control what gear your Jeep stays in if you want more control. If you plan on installing larger tires down the line, the automatic transmission will be able to handle them better without needed to re-gear right away FYI. Hope this helps! -Zach
