The most interesting part of this video for me was realizing that there are slits near the bull's eyes that are opening/contracting with his bugles. I had to research to find out what they are but apparently they're slits that contain a gland which produces pheromones during rutting season.

"I am the spirit of the hunt, just one glimpse of the glorious star your kind calls hircine"

@annuna Yeah! He's great
@annuna Haven't heard of him, I'll check him out
I still play the elder scrolls games to this day haha
I love the elder scrolls :(
1:33 I like how the elk first started calling and then slowly walks forward and then looks straightly into the camera and stares like: oh hi, didnt see you over there xD
Making sure its not joe rogan
it looks into camera coz this dude made some quiet noise that animals had heard
"I bet you're wondering how I got into this situation"

The most interesting part of this video for me was realizing that there are slits near the bull's eyes that are opening/contracting with his bugles. I had to research to find out what they are but apparently they're slits that contain a gland which produces pheromones during rutting season.
VivaLaPets I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed that, it’s pretty neat.
You can definitely tell he’s in rut cause he knows something is off when he’s checking out the camera man and almost bolts but that other bull calling makes him forget. Then he starts peeing all over when he walks away lol 3:25 marking that spot
It was in the beginning of the rut. You are correct they get not quiet as smart when chasing cows and bugleing back and fourth .. just like teenage boys or something. Lol
Woah... now that you've pointed that out I'm able to see it... and I cannot ever unsee it.
Noticed that cause sheep have them, too. I used to have goats - then got sheep, and noticed they had that eye-gland that the goats don't have.
That zoom in on the face at 1:18 got me good. lmao
That's my favorite also.. I had perfect wind that day or it wouldn't have come together like it did.. 😀
@@rmarquar1 What were you in? a blind? Or just sitting still?? You rock!!
Almost looks like a cow face on closeup...
@@TheFrogfeeder they really do. If you zoom in far enough that the antlers arent visible, I'd say it's a bovine for sure. And I milk them every day. Weird how similar in the face the two animals are.
1:14
1:32 You can hear very distantly the call of the other elk. It's so pretty! These are very beautiful and powerful creatures!
Yes.. actually there were a couple different bulls bugleing back and forth.. I wish my camera would have been able to pick up the sound from other bulls better.
I did not realize that until u machined it lol
@@rmarquar1 it caught it very well. I’m listening with headphones and it’s coming through clear as day
In many mythology and legends, even in RPG, Deer 🦌 is a guardian of the forest 🌳
He almost spooked it off. It almost bolted and changed its mind.
The look on that elk’s face says it all: “This forest is lame. No hot chicks at all.”
Wow!! He is a fairly young 6 pointer. I hope he survives a few more years. He will become a magnificent bull, and put some fabulous genetics into the herds. Shalom, young man.
"What the heck was THAT noise?" "That was an animal the size of a car."
had one wake me out of a dead sleep tonight with that sound right by my bedroom window! Scared the SH*T out of me!!! That sound is extremely LOUD with a great deal of deep percussion...enough so that it literally shook the windows, floor, walls and even my bed!! I would never have believed it had I not just experienced it myself! Just INCREDIBLE!!
Sounds like a poltergeist
Happened to me in my tent the black hills. Scared the shit outta me. Went and slept in my SUV after that.
Probably a skinwalker
No Ya didn't 👎
Same thing for me last night. It was a bull getting apples off the tree outside my window. It was pitch black at 2am and it looked like some giant attacking my tree.
How can something look so majestic and have the most terrifying sound on the entire planet? Good LORD, elkfriend.
2:25 " you know I still see you over there you can pretend you're a bush as much as you want but I still know you're a human watching me from a distance."
Nice name
😂😂
Elk are such beautiful creatures, I love hearing their calls echo over the mountains 🌲🦌🌲

That Jim Halpert stare at 2:26 😂
2:14 this sound with the echo of the forest is so beautiful and magical
Williams, Arizona 2018 I was camping, we see elk often out there, but I've never done a tent trip that far out in August. Rut season, the bugles went on all night long & very close to camp. I was mesmerized at all the communication happening 💛 I watched the sunrise & listened to the constant bugeling, along with cow elk chirping & some songs from flicker fledglings in the trees. One of my favorite campouts ever.
I was on a canoe trip in northern Arkansas the first time I ever heard this. It freaked me out for a second until I realized what it was. We got a good glimpse of the bull elk about 60 years away. One of nature’s incredible scenes.
This noise always scared me in read dead while in the mountains
I thought it was the moose 😂
@@sylamy7457 bruh i could never find a moose
Such an ethereal sound. There’s nothing like hearing it in a mountain Forrest🙏🙏🙏
That's actually badass sounding. You can tell they used that in Jurassic Park.
They did! The long necks that Alan called to when he was in the tree with the kids? First movie
It sounds like a sound that you wouldn’t want to hear in the dark, at night, in the middle of know where
If you didint know what it was I can see how it would make a person nervous. 😁
Yeah it’s really only scary if you don’t know what the sound is but once you realize it’s just an elk it’s a lot less scary and more reassuring.
I know where, like bow camp in sept. No moon and a sleepless night, up before dawn hoping the music comesback.
A few weeks back I was up camping for a fishing trip, and at dusk my first night up there a bobcat started to scream about probably about 100 yards from camp. Even finding out what it was didnt help, being the only person up there at the time.
Hands down the single best close up footage of a Bull Elk I have ever seen...EVER
No one Trevor: sounds like someone is strangling a clarinet player 🤣🤣🤣

i live in rural south carolina, right on the north carolina state line, and sometimes elk will wander down out of the state park and into my neck of the woods. first time i heard this call it was 3 am as i was getting into my car for work and i honest to god thought the wendigo was coming for me lol. itll make your hair stand up if you dont know what it is.
I live in the low country. Didn’t think we had elk in the state at all.
@@cryptidwatch490 none naturally, honestly was probably coyotes. More than enough vegetation just too warm. I could be wrong though
@@ferretgers That's what I thought. They wouldn't be able to live here as far as I know because they have adapted to a colder climate. I may also be wrong tho
@@cryptidwatch490 I live right next to table rock state park and they've been spotted coming down the mountain from north Carolina in small numbers around here, the DNR has reported it since 2016 I believe, and I think they used to live here naturally a long time ago before they moved north
That was wonderful, thank you. He definitely heard that squeak you made just before he "froze". Super.
I love that sound!!! Its the best wild life sound nature has to offer. Heard one bugle in a canyon years ago as I was fishing in a stream in the back country. The echo from it was so beautiful I’ve never forgotten the sound of it.
I 100% agree
The sound the front door makes when you stumble in at 5am trying not to wake the beast
The way he keeps looking around just screams "I always feel like somebody's watchin' me"
That was way cool love that sound from elk!!
The bull elks face is so cute to me i love elk
Amazing clip. Can’t imagine the adrenaline rush sitting that close. Awesome !

Last time I did this to a chick she called the cops.
I live in Jasper, Alberta. During the fall, you can fall asleep to the sounds of the Elk. They may be doing the hanky panky, but their calls are still quite beautiful.
I found Elk sounds like horses while Red Deers sound like cows. Elks' face also resembles horses' faces. Beautiful animals.
Ok, I must admit I did not expect it to sound like that. What a majectic animal.

Same!
I just want to give him a big ol’ hug.

Beautiful. And so close. I have never been that close unless it was in a stand or a blind
The most beautiful animal of the woods and the reason why I love to live in Colorado.
I heard this while hiking with my girlfriend in Colorado. I got the most primal feeling when I heard it.
He is beautiful and adorable (Btw his sound is adorable too)
so many nice shots such a beatiful animal
Jesus, that's a beautiful elk! He looks like a fluffy, drycleaned toy
Thanks. It was a fun morning. Had perfect wind and he came right in.. doesnt happen to often..

Such a Majestic animal. Looking up close, to me, it resembles what a Cow/Donkey mix would look like. Beautiful Amazing Video. ✌
Awesome Great capture. Hearing that sound is one of my favorite things in nature.
That is the most coolest sound ive ever heard
I can’t comprehend just how close he got to the elk that is so crazy because they have a great sense of smell and eyesight
I've been that close many times
What a magnificent creature. Thank you for sharing this. 👍🏻
It's hilarious to me that that is how an elk announces to the world that's he's a bad mother, and not to be messed with. Sounds like a tea kettle about to explode.
It sounds like when you scream into a plastic pipe
Never in my life have I felt the need to, or actually screamed into a plastic pipe. Is everything ok with you?
