No cap, Vitilla will make hitting a baseball seem easy.
Aha I see what you did there✊🏽
More like yes cap. Lol
Still active website?
Amazing when you really think about it. The kids decades ago in DR started doing this bc they lacked the resources to buy real baseballs and bats. Yet, I'd argue that bc of the skill derived from this exact game, DR became home to some of the best all-time, great HOF players in the history of the MLB! ❤️🇩🇴
Jeez this game looks hard. But if you get everything down hitting a baseball will be like hitting a basketball.
haha exactly
When i was a kid in DR. They used to have kids try to hit dry corn grains with a broom sticks.
15 years ago when I coached my sons teams for 6 years I used golf ball size whiffle balls and a cut broom stick.....mad a lot of difference, we would get to the field 1 1/12 hours early just to get in the cage prior to a game.
So if a game was at 6pm you would get there at 6 am?😂
@@joeyjojojr.shabalou174no can you do math they’d be there 1.5 hours early
The big gallon caps are way more skinny
@JEREMI LUCIANO-JIMENEZ dude what are you even saying also why where you stealing broom sticks dude
He said 5 gallon. 5 gallon caps look similar.
yup only way to play!
What can you get them off of
This caps are like 60% bigger but its pretty similar
I was in DR in July, and I saw kids playing that game everywhere! It looks tough and fun.
I'm my neighborhood, we played hose ball. Basically, you cut a hose and hit it with a shovel handle. I used an axe handle, but still lol the sound and movement of that thing was insane. My father says he use to play a game called half ball. Street corner baseball offshoot games really do help you.
In my hood we played differently. We had a big wall with a painted square in the back and we throw the (vitilla) as hard as we can and with the cap upside down. If the Cap hit the square was a strike, doesn't matter the angle in wich it hit the square. And the velocity of the pitch was insane, i dunno, like 70, 80 MPH. It was really freaking fast.
The square part is essentially what they're doing. If the cap goes into that thing behind the plate its a strike.
We played the same thing in Chicago when I was a kid
Did this but you actually have pitches that curve, rise, slide, or drop thrown like 50-60 mph
I believe this would work tremendously if you kept at it I did this for golf and would hit bottle caps in the back yard it helps alot if you stuck with it aim small miss small
Looks like something we played 30 to 35 years ago. Cork ball , with a broom stick and a wine cork. Most definitely helped me with contact
I grew up hitting soda bottle caps in Laredo. Same concept only the cap was smaller. Have a whole 5 gallon bucket full and either lob or pitch at each other with them. Broom stick helps but you may want to add some weight to it similar to a bat weight. Or use a thinderstick bat.
I played Vitilla crowing up in The Dominican Republic and that’s all I did few hours before the game follow by few baseball ball (3-5 balls) at the end of my batting practice. Man, do this and you will love being at the home plate.
We also used wine corks that you flick with underhand middle finger motion. Also bottle caps and minature plastic golf balls. It helps.
I was playing this in Mexico today and was really Fun
We used to use the wood stick from a closet and small wiffle balls. Your hand eye coordination becomes dialed in and larger ball will be easy to hit. 👍🇺🇲
This game is played in cuba as well. It's called differently and we used soda bottle caps. We would play it in havana from one side of the sidewalk to the other side across from each other. Anything hit past the pitcher was a run, anything in front was an out, if the cap hit the strike zone painted in the wall behind the batter was an out. A caught fly ball was all three outs. Other forms of the ball when caps were not available were small balls made of different materials like paper and socks, or even small pieces (about one inch) of the same broom stick.
Crazy. 40 years ago me and my brother use to use a broom stick and the old metal Pepsi bottle caps. We both excelled in baseball
vitilla is my favorite old school game hahaha, made baseball so much more easier!
My older brother used to soft toss gravel rocks, and then eventually sunflower seeds to me to hit with a broom stick... Pretty sure both were harder than hitting one of these things considering the size... But my hand eye coordination was and has always been one of my best assets as an athlete. I eventually quit baseball due some aweful coaches in AAU and Schoolball due to throwing my arm out at 14 years old to pick up Tennis and eventually a tennis scholarship. I'm also I decent golfer dispite zero coaching or lessons for golf, I was able to beat the majority of my Universities Golf Team that were on scholarship
Awesome!!! As a teen I had a piece of 1" galvanized steel pipe cut the the length of the bat that I would use. I used sand and expansion foam on the inside to make it the same weight as the bat that I used. Put some tape for a make shift handle... For the ball I would use ping pong balls. I'd drill a hole in the ping pong ball and fill it up with sand, and use electrical tape to add some weight, or just add a marble or pebbles inside for a butterfly/knuckle ball effect. Great times. Because the length and weight were equal to my usual bat, the bat speed was pretty close to what I'd be used to in game.
We play this in Cuba too. Whe call it la chapita. We also play la manito, is like baseball but with no glove, you can only hit ground balls or bounces and you bat with the hand.
Will definitely be playing this with my sons
I played in santiago when I was a little kid I'm 67 was a good time back in DR with all my friends growing up!!!!
Cool idea. We used the broomstick and a racquetball. Had to hit that thing perfectly or else you got crazy backspin.
Can’t wait to try this !!!! Looks fun
I guarantee it'll improve your game! Hand-eye coordination will go through the roof, driving up your contact, which means more bat on the ball, which results in more power! Truly amazing way to advance your game! Good luck!
I've heard of this. Way cool to see it. Holy hell, yea hit that consistently a baseball must look like a beach ball!!
“The year was 1952 and Dion and the Belmonts were on every station”
Easy to find equipments, cheap, and safe. Interesting.
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball
That makes complete sense!
That is just like an instructional video, when i was a kid the pitchers throw a little bit harder and a lot of curves, i don't know how we managed to hit that thing but we were good at it.
Wow… that looks very fun and i see why it would make hitting a baseball a lot smoother and the ball prob looks like a beach ball after playing Vitilla
Same as basketball players that dribble tennis balls for better handles
You've earned a sub
Thats amazing
That is some serious hand eye coordination though
reminds me of the cork balls and skinny long bat.
our coach has us hitting raw beans with a pvc pipe
i used to hit quarters with a broom stick
We called It Can ball, we used to take an old soda can or beer can crunch it up and we would use regular bats. we could make that can do some tricks. we could throw, curves, balls sinkers sliders and fastball down the middle. you would never know what was coming next. We could make a curveball break 4 feet or just make it drop out of the sky. The sad part about all this my cousin who invented the can ball died last year he would be calling me talking crap about what he just saw. RIP Cuzzo we would had a great laugh at this one.
We used a rubber ball cut in half and a stick for a bat when I was a kid. I give credit to that for me being able to hit anything when I was younger. I always thought my dad invented that shit.
I talked to this guy months ago and told him this idea. Fml. He owned another company that made those and they were mini rubber frisbees. This is crazy
Just to clarify disnt invent vitilla lol. These were mini frisbees and I told him to make them to market them in this way rather than the mini frisbee market. Or both markets but focus some time on the baseball aspect. This sucks
How do you get the caps
i bet a good substitution for a broomstick would be those tiny little yellow wiffle ball bats
Mine just arrived. Beteyah time.
Philly stick ball! Stick ball with a halfie (pimple ball cut in half) or hose ball, cut off a 3 to 4 inch piece of garden hose. Stick ball with a pimple ball if you were a beginner or a 6 yrs old lol.
My father is from Samoa, he taught me with beer bottle caps and a broken broom stick. He broke the broom on my brother first lol
That right uce
Were can I cop
We used little rocks and a broom stick in the Apts 😂 good times
Where do I buy these
We play that to in Puerto Rico before Cristobal Colon got here
Where can I get a bat online ??
My dad use to use bottle caps and pitch to me from 4 years old through high school. Best times
Yup now it's or turn to play with our kid's
So like this one time. I was throwing the ball in the air and tryna swing at it.. I kept missing. My aunt's like cousin in law, was standing close .clanked in the head..
Old skool and Getto, yeah babe-bee
wish this was around when I was a kid
This isn't any new or different than stickball in NYC and other cities during the early 1900's. My dad told me about stickball that he played as a kid. they would use a broom stick and anything they could get their hands on for a ball. Sometimes they would take a rock and wrap it up in string, they would use carved out bones from the butcher shop, they would use rubber bushings they found in junk yards.
Yo this was all I played with growing up when we had no bar or ball
I’ve played this in dr really fun
This game looks very fun
Yeah it's def a lot of fun
Definitely the vitilla is a really true sport, I hope see a organized league. Is amazing. I invite you to play.
They do this in Japan but with smaller caps
We used crushed soda cans, or newspaper balled up with some tape.
Did the same as a kid with a yellow skinny wiffle ball bat and practice golf balls. 1v1, hit distance for ghost baserunners.
We played stickball in the streets of NYC.
Talk to me when your father has you outside hitting beans(yea, red kidney beans) with a broomstick.
Yo, where can I get some???
That is so legal . They just conditioning themselves to hit a smaller object . So when they see that big ole baseball they smash it . I think that's absolutely great .. Thumbs up to those kids ..
I wonder why they used those caps instead of a small ball or something
I used Gatorade caps for BP with my kids..
“ShOulD bE iLleGal” 🥴 Next up, Doctors are SHOCKED over this pill…
Love it
Would a Gatorade cap work?
Yk how hard it would be to throw it literally there so thin the wind will catch it I wouldn’t recommend a Gatorade cap
Gatorade caps work amazing but I recommend 2 leiter bottle caps and flick them, trust me
Yes or coke caps
Strictly forbidden!
Any cap works bro , we play that shit in cuba, we try to do it with a small cap like a beer one
I guess you can consider this overspeed
Shits fun af
Its nothing new ...I use to play Half-ball in 1980s and 1990s in Philly....its started in the American south .. Using wood broom stick or mop stick and we would cut old tennis balls or handball in half...corner stores would sell half cut rubber balls (like a dome) that reminds my of Captain America's shield...we would paint a box on a wall and use it as a strike zone...this game and way of play has been in the inner city for decades....even before I was born in the 1970s....it would be cool if you guys did a video on that...
WELL PLAYED! Are u referring to the steps cheating scandal?
I played stick ball a few times as a kid. All you need a a wooden broom stick and a tennis ball. Play against a wall of a building.
Vitilla is where it begins for us dominicans the smaller the cap the better
God has a plan for your life!
Amen
00:17 he said basketball
THATS NOT THE REASON WHY!! THE REASON IS BCUZ MOST PLAYERS NOW IN MLB WENT TO BASEBALL ACADEMY INSTEAD OF SCHOOL PRACTICING 6-8 HRS A DAY IN HOPES TO .AKE IT TO MLB COACHES THERES WILL TRAIN THEM FOR FREE IN EXCHANGE FOR A % OF THE CONTRACT ONCE THEY MAKE IT...IF ALL OTHER COUNTRIES WERE LIKE THAT THEY WILL PRODUCE THE SAME AMOUNT OF MLB PLAYERS
Como se llaman esos discos?
son vitillas tapas de botellones de agua grandes de esos azules ya sabes, pero tapas duras
Thunderstick with ping pong balls would be better.
My Dominican dad would use beer bottle caps to train me. Too bad I played basketball
Yo wassupp frisk!
Jvic what's up my man! How are you?
I’m doing good 👍
Should be illegal? LMFAO
YOOO CHILL
How does this make you better? This only creates bad habits.
Bud Vlad from fricken Canada lol
First thought is that all the hard work in the cages working on mechanics will be wasted because this just teaches you how to swing at pitches you shouldn’t be swinging at, with pitch flight that you would never see from a baseball. Mini Skill balls likely better, just my opinion. I bet this could be fun though. But to say it makes hitting 90 easy… lolol. Prove it.
Great feedback Karen
IF U DOMINICAN U KNOW WASSUP
It’s called bottle caps and u don’t use a jug cap u use a beer cap
Yeah i can truly see how this could help kids develop eyes of a hawk. Learn to focus and accurately pinpoint this cap.
It’s quite tough and really helps you generate muscle memory to square up the ball 🙏
While back on ESPN. The batter is in motion to swing before the ball leaves the pitcher hand. It was interesting to learn. Pro Baseball
Im tell ya right now it aint vitilla that makes u sharp, Try pitching dry corn or hitting it... Played vitilla for years till i hit the country in dr...
Or u could just use Gatorade caps
It’s because of the climate there and it’s the main focus of entertainment in the DR can’t do much els there like you can in the states endless amount of entertainment which makes people lose focus.
That’s not close to the taps we play with
What are yours like? Where can we get them?
We play cork ball in the United States. Small ball small stick..
Stickball......
