We've all been influenced to buy something and often you end up happy, but sometimes you regret your purchase. Today I wanted to talk about some of the LEGO sets and items that I've been influenced to get, that I wish I didn't (or have even already sold)...

  • It is a necessary step. You buy, you regret, then you prune them and fine tune your collecting style. It's what makes your collection yours even if it changes over time because you will change as well.

  • FOMO is what gets me. I've seen too many sets retire way too quickly that I'll get stuff if I have the slightest interest in it. I've sold a few Lego Ideas sets like the Yellow Submarine and ship in a bottle which were FOMO purchases. Same with the D2C 1989 Batmobile and Tumbler. I don't have space for them but I don't want to regret not picking them up. Also respect for including the original uploader names of the videos

  • I started asking myself "why am I buying" with every purchase if its not one of the few sets that end up living on my limited shelf space. Figs? Can I just get the figs more reasonably in the after market? Are the majority of the parts ones I can make use of on my medieval fantasy city build? Often leads to short term disappointment leaving the store empty handed. Always leaves me happy I have funds for the things I actually want on the aftermarket. You have a channel so you have more reasons to buy but yeah, impulse and influenced buying often comes with remorse points to some degree or other.

    • i suppose generally loving clones has helped me to stay interested in lego clone troopers, along with getting a wider variety rather than just 100 of the same clone type. Another thing i do is make custom clones with decals, which are a lot of effort but they are also a cheap way of accessing an even wider variety of clones than lego could provide. they don’t have much monetary value, if any, but i personally love them. Also, if i dont like the builds i modify them or turn them into something better. obviously you do what you want to do but these things have helped me to continue enjoying lego clones 😊

  • My regret was being a mini figure collector as well as a set collector. Recently being an adult starting my life. I’ve learned minifigure collecting is very expensive and personally they just go into a bin. Now I mainly collect display-ability sets and I realized that is so much cheaper and more pleasing. Display sets are on display. Non display sets go into a bin to never be seen again. Skipped the ghost, quinjet, up house etc.

    @amyjones25@amyjones25Ай бұрын
    • Now this part of regret I can get into. One of the biggest challenges for me with LEGO sets, has been deciding on when to buy a set. I've had some awesome deals from non-officiel LEGO stores that were heavily discounted, but I did miss out on a set that I wanted because it was out of stock extremely quickly when it was 25% off. Now it is going to retire this year and only available for full price (or more at other places) Deciding where to buy a set is also a challenge, sometimes if you wait you can get a good deal outside of LEGO stores, but having the insider points or GWP can also make a purchase more worth it. There is the same conundrum with buying parts. Do you buy them at Bricklink? If so .. which store has the most parts you need? Should you make a bunch of smaller orders or one big one? Maybe it is better to wait for a good set to go on discount that has a ton of those parts, or you can buy them of pick a brick online and skip the shipping costs altogether. Or you wait for something great to show up in the wall in the LEGO stores that fills the need for that part in another way. (or if you're lucky, they have exactly that part) For me, there is no regret from buying the wrong thing. That is something that shouldn't happen, ever. There is however a myriad of questions surrounding what you buy, when you buy it, where you buy it from and at what price.

      @pinobluevogel6458@pinobluevogel6458Ай бұрын
  • One thing im glad I do is always wait for a year or so for sets to go 20% off. not only do i get the usual sales but I have time to ask myself if i really want the set once the initial hype wears off

  • I'm getting much better as not giving into impulse buys. Specially because I know I will NOT resell anything, ever. Because I just can't be bothered. So I haven't regretted buying many things lately. But I do regret buying some sets. Namely: everything and anything related to Disney-Star Wars (I've now dismantled anything not related to films 1-6), the Disneyland Train (I never built it. But that one I know will keep going up in value), the LEGO Movie 2 Apocalypseburg, and the dragon from that M-She-U film with the Chinese guy (something Chi? IDC) mostly because LEGO later launched the Auspicious Dragon build which is vastly superior.

Lot of modern Lego is a lot of the same tiny pieces which don’t seem that useful/fun to reuse, also too many stickers where the original had plenty prints. • This is a really interesting list! I have no regrets buying the flower bouquet (they were a gift and she loves them and wants all the botanical sets). I actually paid extra for Marvel series 2 to import the complete set - I think they all look fantastic and are among the best minifigs ever produced. Would I go through that process again? No. But I do I regret it? Not at all! Based on your video history, I know you’ve got all the previous Disney minifigures. I didn’t so I really enjoyed the Disney Train. However I actually really like Captain Hook’s ship. This set is on the list for storage but that ship and the Minifigures are definitely staying out on the display shelf. I never got it myself but I’m very surprised to see you say the Inquisitor Scythe! Every other review and comment I’ve seen has shown absolutely nothing but love for it. My biggest regret is probably just Bricklink in general - I have paid way too much for figures and some parts from there. I had no plans on getting the 332nd Battle Pack, but I did like the troopers. Over the year I ended up getting 2 troopers and a Vaughn, but I might as well have just bought the battle pack 😝

  • I've recently decided to part with a good chunk of my collection, so this video hit right at home in a good time. Anyone with limited space knows the feeling of disassembled, bagged up or boxed up sets and minifigures. It took my a while to figure this out, but storing dozens of sets and minifigures that I hardly ever touch is just not worth it when I could free up that money for something for my home that I will use or look at every day. And that is the silver lining, that Lego very often at least holds its value, or even increases. It's a bit hard letting go, and nostalgia is one hell of a drug that can cloud rationality, but it honestly feels good in the end. Someone else will get to enjoy these toys that brought me joy for a time, and I'll get to put that money towards a new chapter in my life of early adulthood. I'm not selling everything, far from it. I'm still gonna have way more LEGO in my place than the average adult, and I'm sure I will buy some more. But I'm promising myself to buy only things that I will actually display and enjoy, and not something that will be banished to a box after a short while. No more buying from habit. TL;DR. It's ok to let go.

  • Despite buyer's regret, I take solace in the beauty of Lego being a building hobby. I take apart all the sets I do not like and experiment in building new vehicles and MOCs for my Star Wars collection. That's actually what I did with the Inquisitor ship, turning it into a personal starship for my Inferno Squad battle pack. Also, the Captain Vaughn figure only has the printed badge to really differentiate him. I've been using my extra Vaughn figures to create officers for my 501st Legion.

Star Wars: whatever love for Star Wars I felt died out in the 2020s, so I ended up parting most of the sets I got, with the exceptions of key spaceships because I want to maintain the enthusiasm of my Star Wars loving brother. The 2014 D2C Dark Knight Tumbler: this fragile frustration probably put me off life size buildable cars for life. The Big Bang Theory: 2015 offered LEGO Ideas sets based off Wall.E & Doctor Who (which my brother got), yet I stupidly acquired the decent set based off a sitcom I eventually grew to dislike. I COULD HAVE GOTTEN WALL.E!!! Harry Potter (after 2020): once upon a time, I was a huge Harry Potter fan. I also am not a huge collector of minifigures. I buy bricks, I build stuff with it and I get the minifigures and animals that make sense to have with that. I never bought a set I didn't really want, nor did I ever sell one or wanted to get rid of one. I love classic space and I think the Moon Knight figure is great, despite not spending a dime on LEGO marvel. There is one thing we can agree on though: Brickheadz are lame, it doesn't matter if it is Disney or not, none of them are fun, good or interesting to build. I don't recall ever getting influenced to buy something, LEGO is addictive enough on its own and there is way more I want to buy than I can afford to spend my money on anyways.

  • I had my eye on the Friends apartment set for months and wanted it purely because I have Central Perk and felt like I couldn't have one without the other as a fan of the show. I ended up getting it right as Lego's prices increased (I literally saw the price jump up) and justified it as a birthday present or that I'd been wanting it for so long. Whilst I probably would've bought it anyway, I look at it now and wish I'd waited for a sale or something because there's not a lot in that set that does it for me compared to the other one which was less than £100 at the time so I definitely feel you. 🤦‍♀️

I now have all but one, the clocktower, and I am thinking about getting rid of those and just getting the 2010 Hogwarts main castle which would give me more room for other sets like the Indiana Jones temple escape that I actually want.

  • Thanks! I can relate to many of your points. And I even agree with the Inquisitor shuttle (2016 Krennic's shuttle still looks way better IMHO) And for my own regrets list: * Endgame Final Battle 76266 for pretty much the same reason as yours for regretting Avengers: Endgame Final Battle 76192. I wanted Thanos, angry Wanda and Valkyrie on Pegasus, I got them, and the rest is still in the box. I didn't even bother with the build that I found uninteresting. * Optimus Prime. It's cool, it's imposing. It also falls apart if you look at it wrong and transformation isn't smooth. And it doesn't even fit with my regular Transformers collection. * McLaren MP4/4. Bought on sight only to find it has many infuriating issues: wrong tires, wrong Senna helmet, printing white on a red piece was a bad move... Instant buyer's remorse

I wonder if the tyres on the technic Mercedes W14 might be an improvement over the MP4/4's way too narrow default options?

  • The one and only set I regret buying just after I built it (and I'm sure that will be shocking for most people😅) is Disney Hocus Pocus. It's kind of wobbly, hard to get inside or properly see anything there, and to me it just doesn't look interesting. I bought it as a fan of the original "Hocus Pocus" movie and 'cause I like spooky stuff, but now I really just want to get rid of it. But it's hard to sell as I want to keep all the minifigures+the graveyard (the only good things in this set imo).

  • There's a lot of Lego sets I brought when I got back into Lego when I was like 14 that I brought solely for the sake of it which I ended up selling in future but the biggest regret I do have is getting the Age of Ultron Quinjet. It's a generic set with some pretty cool minifigures but it was just a basic set, pricey set I got for a film that, in hindsight, I don't really care much for. It's even worse when at the time I could've gotten the Guardians spaceship for the same price, a better set IMO and from a film I do actually still hold onto quite warmly

I will say, tho, the times I have left empty-handed have resulted in a sense of self-satisfaction that I could be strong. • I regret buying a lot of different sets honestly. The Obi-Wan Vs Vader (from kenobi) at full price. The Justifier at full price (idk why I did it, I just wanted cad bane ig) For both of those it was the hype and the excitement around new sets. Similarly, I bought the UCS Star Destroyer (my biggest regret) thankfully on a big discount before it retired, because everyone kept telling me that was the best set ever. And it was definitely not fun to build, I hated building it, none of the figures are interesting, it's so flimsy, and now sits on a shelf in the basement. For Harry Potter, I bought the 2021 Great Hall/Chamber of Secrets at full price on release day, and I immediately put it in a bin. I had fun building it, and I liked the figures, but I didn't like the green roofs, and I didn't like the modular system, so I've since sold it. Great video as always! Thanks for talking about this issue that no one ever likes to bring up.

  • There were a couple of Hobbit sets I regret buying because the build was small but you have to be careful what you buy. I want to collect Star Wars sets, but I am only really interested in the Original Trilogy stuff, and the Prequels (to a lesser extent.) Lego would never do anything based on Legends so there isn't any point in me buying anything that is Disney Star Wars related as I am not a fan of Star Wars Disney. I don't understand the appeal of Brickheads tbh - they remind me too much of Funko pop figures and Bobble Heads and I really hate those because they don't really look like what they are supposed to represent. There are a few LOTR ones, but quite honestly I would much rather have The Prancing Pony, Beorn's Hall, or Galdariel's Mirror, something like that than Brickheads.

While I bought too many Pops, I've only bought one pack of Brickheads, the Harry Potter 4 pack with Harry, Ron, Hermione and Hagrid. It was part of a purchase to get the Hogwarts Grand Staircase promo. Have I built the Brickheads? No, I never opened the box and don't plan on building them.

      @HollyOnFilm@HollyOnFilmАй бұрын
    • @@HollyOnFilm The Funko Pop variants are a pain. As you said, there are too many of them. One character I collect in Pops is Harley Quinn, and I was a completionist. • I think FOMO drives a lot of people’s Lego purchases and Lego knows just how to create and manipulate the consumers’ buying motivations. I wanted to buy (mainly) Star Wars Lego for investment, I have around £3k worth of unopened sets now in my loft (attic) and apart from a few of the larger UCS sets, most of them have not really appreciated in value, which I think is happening more and more -especially since Lego have increased their prices. I have pretty much stopped for now to see how things go for the next few months/year. But I think buying Lego for investment is as unpredictable and risky as it has ever been…..
