  • This is awesome! I dealt with reflux for ~8 months till I finally saw a doctor. He basically said "I don't know why you have this, and it doesn't matter. I'll give you 3 months of prilosec. Let's see what happens". Staying on prescription drugs for the rest of my life doesn't sound very appealing to me (I'm only 24 for crying out loud!) This kind of information is EXACTLY what I'm looking for! Thanks!

  • You are awesome!!! It took many doctors visits and nexium prescript to realize that I had to stop eating greasy heavy foods after 6 or 7pm. I have had to start eating more raw vegetables and fruits to relieve the symptoms without taking the drugs. It has been life changing to get away from the constant commercials running in my mind about the three meals a day and all the meat I was consuming. I am not young any more...

I heard endonoscopies run a risk of infection w the instruments and internal bleeding. One of my family relative died from internal bleeding from an endonoscopy. I am going to hold off on this invasive procedure until I really need it. I appreciate your concern and so sorry for the loss of your friend. Hopefully, everyone reading these posts will learn from your friend's experience. Blessings :)

  • Have you also considered low stomach acid as the actual cause? Not having enough stomach acid may relax the LES and allow undigested food to produce bacterial acid which could reflux up the esophagus.

Finally, I decided to stop taking the pills, eat smaller meals, lots of veggies, less fat, fewer carbs....still drink a few cups of coffee every day but almost never have attacks anymore....and I used to NEED to take a pill everyday or even a sandwich would give me heartburn!

  • This doc knows exactly what he is talking about. Keep trying the different Tx options he explains. I used to have heart burn but have it 100% under control with diet and lifestyle. What worked for me was ditching sodas and fried foods and replacing those foods with steamed veggies and grilled chicken/fish. I'm still able to eat the occasional junk food because the strong base of my diet has eliminated my heart burn. Maybe others have a different way of controlling their heart burn. I'd love to hear how others controlled their heartburn so I can relay your information to my patients as well.

  • Hi Doc, You the man. Tried some DGL and apple cider vinegar after nearly a week of hearburn. I never had it before a day in my life, but I knew it was from eating late at night. I bodybuild to facilitate my rowing sport, and I started helping my younger bro lose some weight. He works late so I'd save my post workout meals for after we finished. Clearly a huge mistake. I've been suffering food coming up my esophagus, my chest being on fire, and my stomach just churning. I've been having episodes all day so I thought what the hell. Tried your ACV + DGL combo right at meal time, and followed up with some fresh ginger root tea: No pain whatsoever and that was 2.5 hours ago. Thank you so much for putting this info on the net and making it available to everyone. You're doing an amazing public service. Thank you.

  • If you have acid reflux or too much acid, try eating red apples. Red apples has alkaline effects which neujtralizes acid in your stomach and esophagus.Use a fully ripe apple and make sure you remove the skin before eating it. I used to suffer from severe acid reflux. That was 10 years ago and I got rid of that problem since started eating red apples. It worked for me, my family, friends and co-workers.

  • I've been investigating a theory that heartburn is caused by compression of nerves in the spine. You know how pinched nerves can cause weird muscle spasms everywhere? It makes sense that the LES can spasm open at the wrong time, and the stomachs normal digestive contractions can be too hard or erratic as well, leading to indigestion and acid reflux. This theory makes a lot of sense to me. Zillions of people have H. Pylori and hiatal hernias, but no heartburn. Plus heartburn is an age related and obesity related disease. So... back trouble, compressed nerves... acid reflux. makes more sense.

Background: i do all of the recommended food and lifestyle changes (not overweight, no junk food, smaller meals, no caffeine etc, no Prilosec or similar drugs). I have also had 2 Fundoplications to help my lower sphincter. Even with all this I was having post-meal reflux. Apple cider vinegar tablet eliminated what was remaining.

  • I only get acid reflux if I eat Chinese food and barbeque meats. My guess is that my reaction to Chinese food is the MSG. Every time I take a couple of bites of Chinese foods, I have to go to the bathroom and regurgitate the food. Large amounts of an opaque, slimy looking, thick liquid comes up. I can then let my stomach settle for a few minutes and then eat the rest of the food. With barbeque it is the same. I eat a little, sometimes only one bite, and I have to go throw up. Then I let my stomach rest for 5 or so minutes and I can finish the food. Weird, I know. Taking a Zantac on occasion about 1 hour before I eat those foods sometimes prevents throwing up; but sometimes I still throw up. My wife makes Chinese food at home but I never get the reflux reaction; so I think that the restaurants are using lots of MSG and that I am allergic to it, or at least it sets off a volcano of acid being pumped into my stomach.

  • I have heartburn often daily and nightly but right now I'm not feeling heartburn. But I'm feeling this discomfort, it's sightly painful and right in the middle of my upper abdomen (right near my sternum bone). My new doctor didn't say much about my discomfort that I've had for it seems many months, maybe more. His PA prescribed me Ranitidine but it doesn't seem to be doing me much good. I had my galbladder taken out 1.5 years ago.

    @LisaS1@LisaS15 жыл бұрын
    • I had my gall bladder out in 2012 and it has made my digestive system mess up plus postmenopause. If you haven't had an upper GI tract scope you might want to. In my scope my doctor found an esophagus ring and a hiatal hernia. He didn't think that my problems was from that. He, also, removed a precancerous polyp that wasn't there in 2013 and he noticed the lining of my stomach had some mild erosion. Later I pushed for scans because I was in pain and I was bloating When I swallowed a pill during one scan it got caught on the ring. He told me then he could do surgery. He inflated the ring and it got somewhat better. He did a biopsy and he found that my esophagus has inflammation. He thinks that it's reacting to an allergen. He visually hadn't seen any issue with my esophagus when he went in the first time. I, also, had esophagus spasms when I did the barium swallow test. From the abdomen barium scan they found an umbilical hernia, a mildly fatty liver even though my liver enzymes were perfect and some mild arthritis in my spine. Sometimes you just have to push for more testing. It took awhile for my doctor to get on board that I had real issues.

  • Got acid reflux for the first time two months ago. Never smoked, never been overweight, never been pregnant. Had two negative blood and stool H. pylori tests. Had a normal upper GI result, apart from their detecting 'mild' acid reflux. Tried PPIs and natural meds. Nothing helps, except consuming lots of dairy, which I usually don't consume. :(

    • Test for SIBO via a lactulose breath test, also if you can find a clinic that does a Heidelberg pH test so you know with some empiricism that you have high acid, it'll be easier to move forward. If you have SIBO, you'll need antibiotics or anti microbial herbs and following the "bi-phasic" diet helps. If you just have high acid, following the acid watcher diet and using Heartburn Tx from Vital Nutrients is super helpfuls. DGL chewable tabs are great too. Oh, vitamin D, if you live in a cold cloudy place, you're deficient, 10,000 IU a day. Hope this helps!

    • @@danielmiller5521 there is no such a thing as high acid. It is extremely rare please stop using that word. 99% of acid reflux is low stomach acid and loose LES

  • I had chronic acid reflux until I severely limited my intake of coffee, whiskey and tomato based products. I also take supplemental aloe vera juice and occasional apple cider vinegar to alkalinize my body's PH. No more heartburn.

  • The problem with reflux is how difficult it is to figure out exactly what is causing yours. Took me two years to figure out my specific cause and six months to get completely Gerd free. It’s 100% diet dependent unless you have a hernia.

  • If you have constant heartburn try not eating wheat products for 2 or 3 days. I had heartburn for years but as soon as I stopped eating wheat products it stopped. I assume it was because of gluten. Now I can eat, drink anything (Apart from wheat) and I don't have heartburn or need any medication Also I feel much better, more energy, lost weight etc.
