Funny part is that Uta knew about her father's affair and even met the mistress. They treat or should I say bribed Uta with food to keep her mouth shut. But I think Uta didn't understand about the affair and thought that the mistress was his dad's friend and they were just hanging out. Later when uta's mom told her about the affair then she realize her dad was actually having an affair & the woman was not dad's friend.

Because usually kids just don’t believe it or straight up don’t understand. My mom tried to explain things to my little brothers about their fathers but they just ended up hating her until they were old enough to see the truth for themselves. I used to think the same as a child, because I was witness to their hatefulness, but as I got older and saw how my brothers reacted, its really just better for the children to come to understand when they’re old enough, and at their own pace. Adult issues are not easy for small children and trying to force that onto them is a disservice to the innocence of their childhood.
