Bro I'm 37 years old. I lived through 911, 2008, a endless war friends dying from drugs. The American dream burning to ashes. Covid and both of my parents passing. What kind of "safety" does Sony think I even care about?
40 here. Same, and more. Sony wants to keep the kids "safe" from us otherwise they might learn what evil is out there and be better prepared.
Damn that's a lot of strife to endure in a lifetime. Shame that PSN account is the straw that broke your back. You will be missed, fellow. Your sacrifice will not go unnoticed. FOR FREEEDOOOOM!

There's so many people going 'this isn't a big deal, it happens all the time.' First of all, this is corporate lying. There's literally no extra safety when making the PSN account Second of all, it was SKIPPABLE for the first three months Third, this locks out a fair amount of divers who can't get a psn account in their country. Last.........are they REALLY trusting a corporation just because they SAY it's not going to steal their info?
Womp womp 😂
If anything its an extra vulnerability for people to link. Just adds steam data to PSN meaning hackers won't need to get into steam (Which is much more secure) Just PSN.
They don't verify your address. People can lie about what country they are in....dense much?
Also theis demonstrates that Sony has a sizable level of control over arrowhead. This means that as a DEI company, it's only a matter of time before they start making demands to change the game to meet DEI and ESG requirements.
@@bbwayne11lying about the country you are in goes against Sony TOS

We play in PC to avoid crap like this. I dont want to link a PSN account for a console I dont own!! And SOny has baby security and has been hacked several times

this is the comment i was looking for that sums it real quick
Nor sony or any hacker cares about your data, what you play what you buy, if you don't link your credit card and leave it there... I don't see the problem, the issue is what happens with people that live in a country that doesn't have PSN account access

they see the player number and want turn that number into new psn account, what a scummy move
Exactly. They want to run to their investors and say, “look at all these new PSN accounts! Give us more money!” And then they’ll begin selling the data of all the new accounts to marketers, y’know, before they get hacked again and it all gets leaked for free.
2 of my friends literally cant make a PSN account, so they are unable to play after 3 month. I will not play without them, nor will I support this bullshit. I will miss this game. I had hopes for it.

I am actually in disbelief that Sony are such C***s to the points to where even the Devs are left up in the air as to what will happen to players who arent able to make a PSN due to their region/country.
This is the reason small companies can’t get ahead cause big corporations want a piece of the pie, they don’t care if they get their hand in it and ruin it for everyone, this is a huge hit to Arrowhead, I mean what choice do they have? Rock and a hard place for fans, the studio, PC players for sure and Sony won’t even bat an eye! Bastards!
They should have done it from the start and not had this grace period which makes no sense.
@Luciusthestorms The reason why it wasn't a thing yet is because of the server issue at launch, and PC players weren't able to link their accounts and play the game and so they temporarily made it non mandatory till it was fixed so that pc players wouldn't start crying and throwing tantrums like most PC players are doing now. Now, the real big IMPORTANT issue is people who can not make a psn account due to region restrictions and they have every right to be upset.
As someone with a PSN/Sony account, I don't want them linked with my Steam account at all. Most of the emails I have related to those accounts are "you're eligible to receive settlement money from this new lawsuit."
Level 80 Commander here. Looks like I will be hanging my cape. I am confused as to why I can't just disable crossplay and play with PC players without doing this BS?!?!

@@murtle52you see the issue here here is that they are upfront about it Sony just drops this 3 months after the game released and if you say they said they were gonna require it day 1 then why sell the damn game in countries that can’t get a psn account because it’s region locked and also the real question why even need it in the first place because the game was doing just fine without it so why do it when there’s no actual reason to, all it’s doing is kicking out players who can’t make psn accounts
I've been feeling safe until now.
Please do not resist.
"Safety" is code word for Data Gathering. If the game worked fine for months without it then that means we didn't need it, and now Sony is just pushing a number on it because PR is peaking after the last update. They got the bulk of their money from sales, now they wanna milk what is left with Data Gathering. Which... You know, the data leaks too.
While this came down from Sony, Arrowhead really looks bad to the Steam players now. More so after the CEO's (in)famous reply about how AH and not Sony has control over Hell Divers 2. Shame as it was going really well there for a few months, ignoring the (game) bugs.
Doesn’t make them look bad to us, this is enforced by Sony, Arrowhead has no say so because Sony owns the ip, all Arrowhead is the creators of the game if they actually owned the ip to the game this wouldn’t be the case

"Grace period are over" do i miss a memo that we have grace period?
This. I joined a couple of weeks after release, when it started getting big attention, and i dont recall seeing anything about a 'grace period' when starting up the game. I may have been prompted to link my Steam and PSN accounts but i had the option to skip (since i dont have a PSN account) and thus i skipped. And if anyone says the grace period was on Discord, thats not good enough. I even went back over all the Steam update notes to see if there was any mention of a grace period, there isnt (that i can see)
@@Shaabhekhsame here. When I booted the game up and saw I had to link a PSN account I was about to refund the game until a friend told me you could skip it. Now I've basically been cheated out of my money.
The more I think about it, on Steam there was nothing asking me about a PlayStation when buying the game for PC 3 weeks ago, after installation, there was a play button on the Steam app, and that was it. I don't recall anything saying I must have a PlayStation to play this game on PC, and I refuse to get a service for a device I don't have or want.

I am hoping Sony allows ArrowHead a to take a different path. There are MANY who can not create an PSN account in their country and it's against Sony's TOS to use a VPN. This means we are going to lose fellow HellDivers over this issue. I like to see them disable the need to do this, but maybe give special Armor and Weapons to everyone who does link their account. Have seen it in other games and even got my lazy self to do it for the skins. Incentivize, not force.

@@robertarmstrong2323 Hope so.
Easy way to make them change it is for us to just stop playing. No buying the new warbond, no boosting their player count. I can see them removing this restriction when they see the backlash.

@@robertarmstrong2323 And if you are in a country that you are not allowed to do it?
"Customer safety" from a company that lost millions of users CC info to an 'advanced hack' that was "username: admin, password:(blank)". This is a strong sign Sony execs call the shots. If you want to see the future of Helldivers, look at the present of Tarkov, Suicide Squad, and Dead Space 3. It's sad, because ArrowHead obviously cared about this game and playerbase. I cannot imagine the shame they must feel.
If Sony wants to "protect their players" so badly, then they can tell their players to utilize an option that's ALREADY in the game and turn OFF cross play so they don't have to risk playing with us unsafe PC Steam users....
It has very little to do with security. It’s about numbers. Now that the servers are fixed they are ready to implement something that’s been on the games information since the beginning. Plus I’ve never seen pc players advocate more pc games come to console. Get over yourself 😂
I'm well aware it has nothing to do with security. However, Sony are masking it as such, even though there are in-game features that already do this. It's disingenuous on their part, along with the fact they are actively screwing over people who were allowed to buy and play the game on Steam that don't have (legal) access to PSN, and therefore won't have access to the game they put money into anymore. On your point that you don't see PC players advocate for PC games to go to console, that is a generalization I do not belong to. I'd love more people to have access to more games than they do currently. PC games on console, or vice versa. I'm against that kind of exclusivity that makes people fear they are missing out on a great experience for not paying for a $500+ console or a $1,000+ PC they don't have. 🙂

I’m a ps5 player but all of my friends play on PC. Most of the ppl I’ve met Diving are thru steam as well… Major conflict of interest here😡😡

Sony doesnt have an ownership stake, but as a publisher they can make certain rules.
Update: Helldivers subreddit has just been taken down.
This is a lie, the subreddit is still up. Arrowhead managers run this subreddit, why would they take down their own stuff? Lol.
Among all the other things wrong with requiring psn, claiming it helps with bans and appeals for the security of the player base is just insane. Steam has systems for banning players and its own appeals process that they could just use. I can't comprehend any other reason to do this than "because sony wants your data to market to you."
Why was it sold in countries that don't allow psn if I was always intended to need one
To the best of my knowledge: 1) There was NO MENTION BY SONY, of ANY grace period for logging in temp. without linking PSN. 2) I knew from jump that linking may happen when I purchased through Steam. 3) I saw the prompt and was not aware it could be skipped, hence I linked. 4) This is on Sony as far as the expectation and execution of a linking policy to current and future customers.

The real question is why is PSN not in so many countries?!
Censorship
@@josephroman2669 I looked it up further and no your completely wrong. The reason is PlayStation or rather Sony doesn’t see it as economically profitable for them to make the country have PSN in them. They don’t see it being worth there time to make PSN available in that country as they don’t think the cost of allowing it in the country is worth it given how many people would have access to the internet and would then also have enough money to want to buy PlayStation games and sign up for PlayStation network. It has nothing to do with outright censorship or anything like that. This exclusions to the rule being Russia 🇷🇺 and China 🇨🇳. Russia 🇷🇺 due to there invasion of Ukraine 🇺🇦 and China 🇨🇳 because China 🇨🇳 closed down PSN in the country due to security concerns which knowing China 🇨🇳 probably weren’t there.

They own the games IP
So? They SOLD this game to people who weren't supposed to even be able to log in.
I'm going to make a reasonable argument. When purchase people purchased this game into a contract that providing they pay for the game and follow the EULA they can play the content provided by this game. Essentially a contract - Sony want to force a change in the terms of the agreement - onto everyone. It was not made clear enough that you would need a PSN account. Essentially - initially the contact looks like this: Game content = £35 (or whatever it was) To No game content (based on the terms of the orrignal agreement - no PSN account) = £35 Now for the people saying "just create a PSN account" 1. Some people across multiple contried do not have access to just create a PSN account - thus making this simply void. You could use a VPN but then you're looking at a potential ban. It would be suicide for Sony to suggest using something that doesn't conform with their "standards" set by them. 2. This is an element of forced consent - Sony are forcing you to either hand over you data/details to play a game for which you did not contractually agree to at point of purchase. This does not confrom with european GDPR regulations. (GDPR article - consent: The basic requirements for the effectiveness of a valid legal consent are defined in Article 7 and specified further in recital 32 of the GDPR. Consent must be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous. In order to obtain freely given consent, it must be given on a voluntary basis. The element “free” implies a real choice by the data subject. Any element of inappropriate pressure or influence which could affect the outcome of that choice renders the consent invalid. In doing so, the legal text takes a certain imbalance between the controller and the data subject into consideration.) 3. There is no reason to force this - if someone doesn't want to have a PSN account they don't have to have one. Just because you think it's fine to have one does not mean every other person on earth has to agree with you. It's each individual persons choice and opinion. You think it's fine (which is okay you're entitled to your opinion) doesn't mean everyone else has to agree.
I feel like Sony has a class action lawsuit in their future
As someone who didn’t follow the hype and had absolutely no idea they’d temporarily suspended the PSN requirement for whatever reason, this was very disappointing news to hear. As someone who would rather not create yet another account for yet another service, especially one as notoriously unsecured as PSN, it was horrendous news to hear. It doesn’t matter how innocuous the information can be gained is, and their reasons for it being “safety and security” is complete garbage corpo speak for “we want more control”. I’m not one to champion the banner of one corporation over another, they’re all pretty bad in their own ways, but Sony can lick my taint clean after a long night post-coitus, because they’re one of the worst.
"issue with trusting sony" i mean yea its not like sony has ever had any data leak in the past right?

Yup a shit ton of people taking this like an act of war. Blown way out of proportion it’s just a fucking game make a blank account and play if you can’t make an account get a refund.
Corporation say give us your data or else. You say yes master. Shame.

@@c_poif you don't have a PlayStation account then what info aside from your email are they getting?
This was on the Steam page since day one. It says “PSN Account Required”. I knew it was only a matter of time before Sony got rolling on this thing.
this is true a linked account is required for crossplay, rocket league, satisfactory ETC but it doesn't say "you will not be able to play this game without a PSN account" they can fix this mess by just simply stating all steam users accounts that don't link a PSN account will not be able to use the crossplay feature, problem solved
agreed dont know why players are all shocked and awed about something thats been on steam since launch its not like they were hiding the requirements either is it a bit of a inconvenience sure but playerbase need to just tkae the 2 or 3 minutes to make an account than they never have to worry about it againatleast for those that are in regions that can make a PSN
@@alexpena4091 that's the problem, if you live in an area that doesn't support PSN accounts then you're up shits creek, but the game can clearly function for those that can't create an account
@alexpena4091 not making dumb account on the principle that i should not have to The only account that should matter is steam where people are playing the game
@@kotzer71 if people cared about their steam accounts enough, they would have known the requirement before purchasing
This betrayal hurts so much, we finally thought we could trust, and that's when they twisted the dagger we didn't know was already in our back. You've failed the community, Arrowhead; and the longer you take to make amends, the more permanent damage will be done. Make the right choice. Save what's left of your community while you still have the chance.
Sony did this, Not arrowhead.
I feel for y'all. I've been playing on PS5 since launch so it doesn't directly affect me but my squad is 90% on PC so this will impact my crew.
I made one when I first started playing. People wine too much.
You're one of those shills who makes these companies feel justified in gathering our data for no reason. Nice work! I don't own a PlayStation and don't feel like Sony deserves anything from me. If I want to boycott these actions with a review bomb and refund request, I will do so.
Exactly
Good for you. Not everyone can make an account.
and you clearly don't think thinks through enough.
Don’t care, I don’t give my information to someone I don’t like, especially two face liars like Sony and AH.
This will go a long way in fixing the friend adding problems we’ve been having
and the match making as well.
I already have a PSN account so it won’t be a problem for me to connect. My problem is going to be if this screws over my fellow Helldivers, I will not be playing this game. Period.
It fucking BLOWS to see this game die. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to the entire gaming community trolling the shit out of Sony for this for the foreseeable future. It’s going to be glorious.
It has been a disclaimer on the Steam store page since before the launch, that the game requires a 3rd party (PSN) account. Obviously people didn’t look before buying and now bitch and moan about something that’s always been a thing for this game.
If it was “required” most PC players would’ve done it the moment they finished downloading and powered up the game because it would’ve forced us. But it wasn’t forced and it wasn’t required. Keep sucking and shilling for the big corporations tho, surely it’s bringing good results right now👍👍
@@griffiththechad9483it wasn’t forced Becuase of the server issues before. It is now so stop crying like a little baby
So, you have read every single terms of service document that you've ever clicked 'yes' on? I find that hard to believe. And yet, if your bank foreclosed on the house you live in, and then forced arbitration with the arbitrator of their choice, I'm pretty sure you'd be upset, even though you should have read it, technically. Really not that hard to put yourself in someone else's shoes if you try.

With the greates respect, but... Fuck console😂😂😂
Wtf does this have to do with the console? Nothing.
Womp womp go play something else
on sony's side you need to think how this is gonna play out over the next few months to find something even more alarming... sony is probably doing this to misrepresent the psn signups they expect people to go through with, just to keep playing HD2, as legitimate new sony customers to sony's investors around mid year, instead of the begrudging signups from angry PC players that will likely result in possibly hundreds of thousands of people, actively hating sony and never wanting to buy another product from them, which would hurt sony's sales, hurt their shareholders and with the aforementioned misrepresentation in mind, possibly be a form of stock market fraud. there's a regulatory agency in the US called the SEC that would probably be very interested to know about all of this.
Another idea: close the shop, send Sony where they belong, rebrand / rename the pruduct, see you in Helldivers III
I think Sony forced them to do this. They must have threatened AH if they do not enforce this then Sony removes them from the PlayStation Store or this must have been a predetermined agreement. AH does not gain anything from this and only loses its player base. It is pretty clear Sony is the one to blame!!
Ah, comrades! Gather 'round and heed this tale of treachery! As we stand united, it's not merely about the passage of time, but the sting of betrayal that cuts deep. The disrespect shown to us, the loyal customers, it's a wound that won't easily heal. Nay, even if they attempt to mend their ways, the scent of deceit shall linger like a foul odor in the air. And what of our valiant companion, the one barred from play due to his distant realm lacking access to the PSN? Ah, here lies the connection to our beloved motto: one for all, all for one! In the face of adversity, we must stand together, for it is not our failing, but theirs. Let the naysayers cry out like babies, for their ire only confirms their guilt. Remember, friends, we each possess the power of choice. Let us wield it wisely, and let justice be our guide! if they can't play, then neither shall we! One for all, All for one!
I imagine you’ll be seeing a lot less of us in the clouds.
I don't know what to do now. So today my computer that I bought to play Helldivers on is showing up and I was extremely excited to buy it and finally play the game but now with what happened I'm on the fence on whether I should still buy and play it or not. My friend said that the game isn't worth it anymore and I should probably wait for the next war bound before I decide but I don't know if I want to do that or not. Any advice from anyone on what I should do would much appreciated.
If you feel like you would enjoy it even for a bit it’s definitely worth it. It’s only 30$ and it’ll give you hours of enjoyment. Nothing has changed besides taking 30 seconds to make a psn account just like you would for Microsoft or Ubisoft. People just over react. But you also don’t gotta listen to me 😂
@@Rex_kwon_do2113 ok, thanks for the help. I'm still going to buy it because I've been too excited to play the game to just decide not to

i really do not mind the linking, it's no big deal for me in the US. the only issue i have, of course, is for those who have bought & have been playing the game in countries where they cannot make a PSN account. i know in a reply Pilestedt said that they're working with playstation to find a solution for those players. i really hope they do find some way to fix that issue ^^;
It should be optional for cross play AT MOST. To tell me I can’t play if I don’t link is insane lol.
Cloud i look forward to seeing what game you cover next. ..hd2 ..was a lot of fun dude
Ill be posting my bad review on steam later tonight. Lets pump those numbers and let em know we value our data
First they make you use a dubious anti-cheat which adds a vulnerability to your machine, and now they require you to sign up for more exposure to unwanted marketing (if your even allowed to sign up for it..) Where will it end?
I linked my Helldivers to my PSN on launch day - didn't seem like that big of a deal, and since that day I haven't touched it since.
Good for you. I can not do that without violating Sony's terms of service.

Thanks for highlighting Philippines 😀. This is actually not the end of the dives for PH gamers. We usually create a PSN account using either HongKong or Singapore. This has been the workaround of us Pinoy gamers since the PS3 era. We already informed our local Helldiver group and will gladly help them resolve this issue.
It's the absolute, how to f*ck up our own success move, from Sony. I don't want anything to do with Playstation, as i've been on pc since 2005. Never cared about controler based companies, and noone can force me to be part of it. I hope they rethink this all situation, and it won't be a thing, but if it is, then it' s a goodbey HD2, and if possible, ask for refund on steam.
Thank you, 'Divers from the Philippines. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten ✊ o7
If all we have to do is make an account, login and email and then never use it again, why in the world do I need to have it then! it clearly works fine without and I don't have a PlayStation nor will I have one. I got my game on steam on PC and I have no interaction what so ever with Sony.
I’m a PS5 player but my heart breaks for all of my fellows-in-arms. Sony needs to dial this back for Democracy!
If it wasn't needed for 3 months and it thrived it's clearly not needed now. If they make exceptions for certain regions it's also clearly not needed at all.
I dont have the game yet, are they gonna remove it from steam? If not, do i have to like link steam to psn and buy? Any mention about it?
You will be required to link your PSN id at purchase, if bought after May 6 Its in Sony’s statement
