This all starts with building our cheap raised garden beds...let me explain. We have this dream of starting an urban homestead. That dream is to one day have it expand to own a stretch of land and start a big homestead and be self reliant. But that takes time and we have come to the realization that we have to start small with some simple DIY raised garden beds made from cedar fence posts. So I guess this is the beginning of our small and modest backyard urban homestead.
Enjoy friends!

  • This is awesome having the entire family involved and engaged. Raised beds look great, the bark is a nice touch. Now you just need a ton of dirt to fill them with! I just put up chicken wire around my garden, not sharing with rabbits any longer! Green beans, onions, carrots, tomatoes, and hopefully some watermelon I'll be "attempting" to harvest this year. Wishing your family a bountiful harvest 🍑🍅

    • Thank you very much. It was a fun project to work on with everyone. We are very happy with how it turned out. Some sort of protection will be needed for the future for sure. I’ll have to go back and take a look at your catalog of videos to see if you made one on your garden. That sounds like the making of a great harvest! We are just hoping for anything at this point. One thing I know for sure…we can’t grow dirt! Sooo…yeah…lots of work to get some back there. Appreciate the well wishes and the same from our family to yours.

  • Grew up with a half acre garden in my grandma's backyard. Fresh carrots with a little dirt left on them are dandy 😎 Nice work Paul - bests to the Turf Family!

    • I remember visiting my Great Aunt in Spruce Pine, NC and watching her walk out to her garden that was about the same size you mentioned. She would pull Zucchini out of it, wash, bread it, and fry it up for me. One of the best meals I had ever had in my life. I can still smell and taste every bit of that and brings me so much joy thinking about it. Thanks for spurring that memory for me! Our best to you and yours. Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch the video as always.

  • I bet the garden smells good with all that cedar. Nice job on setting the whole thing up. Looks like you had lots of help from Turf/Farm/Family. A really fun project you got started there. Best to all you farmers! KOKO

  • Good stuff man. I have a video coming on inexpensive beds I just made here. Building a garden area in my backyard as well with my girls and it’s been great. We just planted all of our stuff yesterday. Have peaches and nectarines growing on our trees although I know I need to pull them off first year but the girls like watching them grow. Good stuff!

    • It’s been really fun and refreshing to do this. Good for the soul. I’ll keep my eye out for that video! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. We ended up planting: Tomatoes, basil, marigolds Bell pepper, jalepeno Green beans, radish, onion Corn, cucumber Strawberries Watermelon, cantaloupe Thyme, cilantro Nasturtium flowers And our peach trees are showing signs of good fruit. Looking forward to seeing g what pops up. Enjoy the time with them and the process. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

  • Love this - we started a raised vegetable garden last spring/summer - we made plenty of mistakes but you live and learn, hoping this year is better.

    • Sometimes the best way to learn is to fall flat on your face. You can't get to where you are going without taking a few steps and stumbles along the way. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. We really appreciate it.

  • I love the idea of using those Cedar fence boards for your planters. I've wanted To Do this and then use PC v pipe to make a cover for the top for frosty days.

    • It’s a great affordable option. They are easy to come by and usually in good supply. I like that idea of pvc pipe covers. I will have to run with that. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. It means a lot!

  • It looks good! Lots of room for planting activities! I'd be curious how the boxes hold up over time since those sides are thinner than what I am used to seeing. Do you plan on cutting out the fabric in the middle of the boxes so the roots can grow deeper into your native soil or are you not worried about that?

    @EaveeDoesIt@EaveeDoesIt17 күн бұрын
    • Thank you very much sir! That makes two of us on the boxes. My gut tells me in a couple of years we might have to revisit this. But time will tell. No plans to cut out the middle of the boxes. I choose this depth so the plants will have plenty of room to establish and gather what they need from amending the soil. That is the plan anyways. We will just have to get started and see how it goes. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. It really means alot.
