my original plan was to only make an animatic of the part where Odysseus is telling everyone the plan (Diomedes will lead the charge...), but when I finished that I got too excited to do the rest of the song, so here we are lol
ALSO I created a Ko-Fi! So if you want to buy me a coffee I appreciate it very much!

The gods telling someone to kill a child and then cursing them for it is such a Greek gods thing to do
And they will also curse you if your didn't kill him. There's no winning with these gods
Lmao real

Zeus was not the one to tell Odysseus to do that. And every god in ancient mythologies, including the israelite God, where like that, demanding gruesome things, the greek gods where not the only ones.
The Greek gods are in this content. We don't need to compare all the gods in existance to enjoy and talk about them. @@sonofcronos7831

I don't trust a word that comes out of that excuse of a king, father and husband. Look at how he approaches Odysseus during the previous song, the inconsistency... Zeus saying “this is the will of the gods” is the ultimate gaslighting moment
I don't really think so. If he'd let the son life, the gods who supported troy would definitly convince the child to revenge his family. It might not be Zeus will, but it's still the will of other gods.
Zeus didn't participate in this at all. He was neutral during the Trojan War and he didn't allow the other gods participate either. They did in secret and after Aphrodite was injured by Diomedes, Zeus made them all retire from the war.
@@locusta-bw2vd But, it seems that no matter what Odysseus tries to say he could do to not kill the child, Zeus counters. What tips me off is the two lines; “The Gods will make him know.” And “This is the will of the Gods.” It seems he could let Odysseus do this, but Zeus wants the child dead.
@@prestonstanley7736 It wasn't the will of the gods in the original myth. The gods who supported Greek victory over Troy cursed the Greeks to have a difficult way back home because they broke the rules. They did not respect the temples as refugee shelters, they dragged out women and children who had sought shelter in the temples, they raped and killed (rape of Cassandra, murder of Astyanax). And they got punished for it.
@@prestonstanley7736thing is Zeus is not an omnipotent, omniscient god. Some of the gods supported Troy, others did Greece. Zeus is neutral. And he cant truly prevent some of the gods from doing what he warns from, as they will do it in secret whatever he says
I really like your choice to depict the child as a monstrous, beast-like thing when he grows up. Like Odysseus is trying to dehumanize him to justify murdering him....
He’s trying to convince himself that it’s for the greater good.
I mean, was kinda right@@Princessallstar365
Its also cool because the later line "when does a man become a monster" makes me think of Hectors son too. not only Odysseus.
I always interpreted it as Odysseus asking hinself if this child will truly be his undoing if he grows up Like no matter what he does he will find kut and kill everyonenhe loves , sort of a way to talk himself up to doing the unthinkable @@RayGainbows
I absolutely will always love the double meaning behind "A foe who won't run, unlike anyone you have faced before." and how it foreshadows in a way that Odysseus has to kill an infant.

It can also be foresight for the cyclops. It couldn't fight back but when Athena told him to finish it he let his humanity kick in and said no which was a stab to the will of the gods since he forgets she is a god. And because of his mercy he had to deal with Poseidon who became an avenger because of his son's cries.
And the fact Odysseus was most likely thinking about a powerful warrior and definitely not a baby hits hard 😭

you can't convince me that they just didnt want him to do it for their entertainment cause, "The gods will make him know" is crazy
Not really. The gods who supported Troy coming to the boy and saying “hey you wanna kill the man who killed your daddy?” is entirely within the realm of possibility. Most of the gods did pick a side and some did actively participate in the war after all.
I think it depends on how you raise the kid. The Gods will tell him, well than I tell him myself you dumbass. I will love and cherish him and tell him that I chose to raise him instead of giving in to a god's will. That I love him and that I'm sorry that his biological parents had been in a war with us and how desperate every soldier is to protect their home. That I see him as my son even if he had different parent. If he was raised by love why should he avenge a father he can't even remember? Hell, I'll raise him to chose for himself and not because some gods tell him something he already knows I raise my middlefinger to Zeus because he clearly has no understanding how LOVE works. The man who sleeps with every beautiful woman regardless how she feels can 't tell me that the way of raising a child of love can make an enemy Love, information, no secrets and just symphaty are the keys. And to be fair, for the gods it will be a bad tale but for humans? I would live for that. But well Odysseus tried at least with the idea but didn't believe enough in it. As someone who's just finished the song of Achilles I'm loving the sing even more
What did Neoptolemus do?
@ilikedinosaurs392 He is the son of Achilles, who was also known as Pyrrhus, meaning "Red". He was brought to fight in the Trojan War by Odysseus because the prophecy said they could only win with poisonous arrows of Heracles, the stealing the Palladium and bringing teen Neo to the war. Edit: clicked too early LOL. Here is the rest: Neo took after his father, and in some sources was said to be hella brutal of a killer, killing at least 5 big names in the war and rumored to be ruthless. But there are some sources where he carries out killing someone, making sure to kill them painlessly.
Odysesus: Having a crisis The baby: Vibing
Imagine you’re a sleeping Trojan and you get woken by some Greek belting his heart out inside a wooden horse. I guess the acoustics must be good.
People make Little Ajax look so cute, when he was actually one of the greatest Greek warriors, just not as superhuman of a soldier as "Big Ajax". Then during this depicted sack of Troy he dragged Cassandra away from where she clung to the statue of Athena in the temple, and SA'd her. This enraged Athena, who caused many of their ships to sink on the way home and ultimately hit him with a lightning bolt.

Having a fire in a wooden horse though might have been an oversight 😝
@@amynguyen527 I was thinking that 😂
Every time I hear Zeus say: “This is the will of the Gods…” I remember the words of Pathos Verdes III: “Once a faithful servant of the cruel and uncaring gods…” Also, how Odysseus steps back in sheer horror at 3:03 when Zeus tells him: “if you don’t end him now, you will have no one left to save…”
the "Cruel and uncaring gods" hits harder after "I'll make sure his past is never know" is followed by "The gods will make him know"

For me it's a kind of equality: Zeus lets Odysseus choose his destiny by telling him information. The choice is then in his hands. It will be the same for Astyanax (the baby) if he grows up. I don't know if I can express my thoughts well but in my head this situation makes sense. The gods see what could happen and have the habit of intervening all the time in human affairs...

Please I am OBSESSED with the way you handled 1:47 because this actually shows why Odysseus would say 'WHO was that?' instead of 'WHAT was that?'
I’m also in love with that part😂 this whole video is perfectly made❤ I honestly think that if they make an animated version of this musical, this person should be put in charge of it. Cuz I would watch it many many many times

1:27 THAT SWORD SPIN I CANNOT AHHHH
Okay, but Neo killing the brothers of hector. That moment was just 🙌
SO MANY THINGS! You actually put the Trojan horse You forshadowed what the characters would do during the battle The EXPRESSIONS are absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The Penelope and Telemachus flashback was expertly done (Penelope looks GORGEOUS!) All the details like Odysseus blowing out the torch and twirling his sword in anticipation were so cool! You actually included a battle scene ZEUS first in the clouds and then in his signature animal the eagle watching from the window The EXPRESSIONS on baby Astyanax are so CUTE Odysseus' internal conflict was done really well. Zeus fading away at the end of the song along with his voice The ANIMATION in general was so SMOOTH This entire thing was absolute FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Earned my sub in anticipation for more Epic
I couldn't have said it better! So well done!!! 🤘🏻
120% agree this is my favorite animation done so far! It's being saved! I listen to these songs a lot while playing assassin's creed odyssey
I mean if I had a wife that looks like Penelope I too would do everything to get back.
That vision scene leading to the infant was EXACTLY as I imagined it; the aspiration of grown-up Asyntax striking Odysseus, the eagle leading to the vision of Zeus with a cloudy beard, Odysseus walking down a dark hallway as mist leads him to the room, an EPIC panning shot as Odysseus proposes ways to spare the kid, Zeus disappearing so Odysseus can’t argue with him-INCREDIBLE. I was gonna do an animatic for it, but now I may not have to.
What I think is very ironic is that Odysseus offered to raise him as his own (valid plan imo) but Zeus said the gods would "make him know". So the gods would inform the child of everything probably just to fulfill thw prophecy. Cause they're mostly divine garbage bins with bad temperments.
AHHHHH this was so good, fucking love the way you portray Odysseus's turmoil and the way you drew Astyanax grown up not as looking like a human, but like a monster which ngl would fit "when does a man become a monster" part in Just a Man
The camera sweeping around him during "I can raise him as my own" is SOOO incredible. Absolutely gave me chills. But I love everything about this. The way you use the light at the beginning. That you zoom out to the horse's eye during "slay" is so cool, so menacing. Love how you depict all the different tasks he gives everyone. And oh my oh my how beautiful is Penelope? I mean I'm obsessed with your Ody as well! Aaahhh just love it!
Oh my god, I’m so glad you’re doing this song! Odysseus’s inner turmoil is such a bop
Obsessed with how you had Odysseus take his helmet off to look at Asyntax , when in the Iliad he didn't recognize his dad Hector because of his helmet
0:50 oh.. the son of Achilles
EYO YOU DIDNT HAVE TO MAKE HECTOR'S SON SO BABY MODE LIKE, IT REALLY SHOVES IT IN YOUR FACE THAT THIS IS JUST A *CHILD* THAT ODYSSEUS IS BEING TOLD TO KILL 10/10
this is actually perfect. The historically accurate gown and the swords! You actually started in the horse! The way you showed every dude in the intro in battle! Not to mention the quality of animation! this is easily my favorite Horse and the Infant animatic of all of them
If WE how with the illiad though, Odysseus would have worn a helmet/ cap Made from leather and hog tusks, IT IS one of the exlpicitly described things
Might be completely off the mark, but was Odysseus removing his helmet in front of Astyanax intended as a parallel to Iliad book 6? Hector removes his helmet in front of Astyanax, both because it’s scares him and to symbolise Hector’s duality: there is Hector the warrior and Hector the family man. In having Odysseus do the same, alongside the lyrics that emphasise his paternal instincts, it could be read as a deliberate comparison of the two. This idea is kind of furthered by Odysseus’ motivation for killing Astyanax: to protect his family, which was Hector’s entire motivation for fighting in the Iliad. There is also the brilliant irony of Odysseus ending what Hector fought so hard to save in order to protect his own wife and son. I think all this proves is that Classics A Level morphed my brain and the damage is permanent
But also the contrast, in the end, Hector Always Chose Honor and pride over His family
Dang, moments like this remind me that Zeus was not a very just or kind figure. Someone once told me that there was something in Homer’s works that indicated Zeus wanted the Trojan War to happen to…basically clear the board of demigod heroes, mainly those descended from him, for fear of them overthrowing him in a repeat of the Titanomachy. So him not only pointing Odysseus’ fear and paranoia at an innocent child, but making it clear that he’d make sure that child turned into a threat even if Odysseus did his best to avoid that, seems entirely in character for any version of him that isn’t made family friendly.
My favourite part about these animatics is that Penelope always looks different and yet she's always the most beautiful woman I've ever seen
OH MY GODS GIGI that sequence from 0:36 to 0:52 was absolute PERFECTION! I can not stop rewatching it!
Same I've been watching it non stop im obssesed
That part's got me hooked really... The camera movement, angles like it's a masterpiece
Yeah right the part was soo good
What's interesting about the song and prophecy is that Ancient Greeks believed one cannot prevent fate. Meaning that Odysseus can't change what will happen to him... But also like the Ancient Greeks they would argue different meanings of the stories. Hence why Library Alexandria had a ton of commentary of the meaning Illiad. Since we don't know what happens after Odysseus gets home... We may not know which version of Odysseus action will be in indulging or turning away, because this is the Musical interpretation of the story. And things often have been reframed. But that's my two cents.
I believe that one ending says that Odysseus is killed by the son he had with Circe, so in a way he was killed by his kid. It just wasn't Astyanax
@@renamami Interesting, actually never heard of that ending. And looking it up it appears Odysseus dies like a chump about cattle. And in another I looked up he died of old age. I was more pointing out the story changes with each new author. Story beats stay the same but some myths (and plays) change wildly. I know in the next song, to me at least, it is unclear if he goes through with it or not. And we might not know unless its performed on stage, or kept vague for interpretation.
I love the way you show emotion and i love how you portray Odysseus begging to Zeus to have him do anything else but kill this child. You can see how he doesn't want to do it and the way his emotion is portrayed is beautiful. I love how he throws his sword and gets on his knees while trying to give other choices instead of killing him. He really doesn't want to hurt the boy. Zeus is telling him what will happen who will get hurt but Odysseus still has refusal in his eyes. Zeus is telling him that the people he cares most for will get hirt but Odysseus cares so much he can't bring himself to do it. He has to make a choice.
I loved how you showed Hector's son removing the tapestry and crying because of his lost home, like he would if he lived and learned about it.
You were able to breathe so much character and epth into Odysseus, alongside the phenomenal song. Odysseus has always been my favorite Greek hero, and you've only cemented that. I wouldn't say it's a problem per say, but a lot of Greek myths rarely really went into the psychology of the characters. We never see how the war effected Odysseus, or how the loss of his men did, but this depicts him as a genuine intelligent, promising man corrupted and led astray by the whims of selfish, destructive gods and their petty disputes.
I would recommend Hades town
I love how little Ajax is a child here, knowing that he's a grown ass man😂 That's so funny
I assumed it was "Little Ajax Jr." Aka Eurysaces
WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THE ANIMATION IN THE PART WHERE ODYSSEUS IS TALKING ABOUT THE PLAN?! IT'S GORGEUS AND VERY SMOOTH, HELP-!!
Nah! How dare you make Astyanax that cute!!! It only makes it hurt more! 😭 But seriously, I love this! You truly brought the entire song to life.
Diomedes jumping out of the Trojan horse gives me chills! Fantastic job!
Diomedes was such an absolute legend, nearly killed Aphrodite son by throwing a boulder at him and ever attacked Aphrodite herself when she came to rescue her boy.

2:50 THIS IS THE SON OF NONE OTHER THAN TROY’S VERY OWN PRINCE HECTOR 😫 😫 😫
The messed up part of all this if he adopts the child and changes his name and raised him on his own. One of the Greek gods will find away to manipulate the kid into becoming Troys avenger. Because this entire war was just that manipulation of the gods.
This, this is just so incredible! One of the things I like most about seeing the different animatics to these songs is the different approach each one takes: The preparations inside of the horse, Zeus being in the clouds\the clouds and the mist leading Odysseus, and something about the fact Astyanax being awake and looking at him - just made it so much more devastating! This is so good!
Zeus: off the child, Odysseus😌 Ody: I could raise him as my own... Zeus: nah, he would totally rip your throat out Ody: Or send him far away from home... Zeus: ... he will find you? Duh, just uninstall him from life, jeez, what's the big deal? Ody: Make sure his past is never known... Zeus: I swear to me, I'll tell him it was your bratty little a$$ that reenacted that horse scene from Hannibal only to burn his house Ody: I'm on my knees for you Zeus: ... Ody: I'm begging, please Zeus: I'm gonna tell Poseidon about you... THROW THAT CHILD RIGHT NOW, HERE, YOU SEE THIS WINDOW? YEET THE CHILD... ehem, I mean... This is the will of the Gods or whatever
Hey! This is the first time I've clicked on anything related to EPIC the musical, I don't know what it's about (except that it has to do with Greek myths) but this animatic has had me crying for the past 5 minutes. I was watching it for the very first time, and at first I was so excited because "omg, the trojan war!!!" and odysseus was hyping everybody up and i was like "omg !!! this is so fun!!!!" but then the what do you fight for // penelope // thelemacus part came on and I started tearing up and getting goosebumps, and by the time the song ended I was full-on bawling!! So, yeah. I just wanted to let you know that I think your work is so incredible!! Even without context your work got real emotions out of me haha
It's the musical version of the "Odyssey".
I CAN'T EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE THE SECTION WHERE HE'S JUST TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO
IT IS so Epic!!!
One thing which keeps catching my attention in this song -- the lack of a rhyme in this section: > This is none other than the son of prince Hector > Know that he will grow from a boy to an avenger To me, at least, the natural rhyme which echoes in my ears for "Hector" is "protector" -- but because of the brutality of the war, there are no protectors left, only avengers. Odysseus tries to be a protector in this animatic, offering to raise the orphaned son as his own and opening his house in gentleness, but the gods deny him that chance: he can only avenge or be avenged, in a spinning wheel of blood feuds ignited by the war and death.
I think this moment decided the rest of the journey back to Ithaca, this here was Odysseus choosing ruthlessness, to prioritize his survival before anything else, and the rest of the quest was the remarking and consequences of this display: The Cyclops, Aeolus, Circe, Poseidon, every time he tried to choose mercy he was punished because he had already sold his soul, he didn't commit to his decision and that's why fate kept him from reaching home until he developed the resolve equivalent to commiting an act of monstruosity, he kept insisting on how unchanged he was, on his purity and perfection, and for that, and only after accepting his actions, he came back to Ithaca a failure.
This is amazing
The disgust in his face at 3:07 is just so realistic ;-: The horror he felt at being told he needed to kill a child.
What do you live for What do you try for What do you wish for What do you fight for This is a quote I need to remember when coming up with DND characters cuz the answers give so much!
the detail!!! the way you drew Zeus and how you portrayed him!! and UGH THE WAY ODYSSEUS WAS DRAWN like he was mentally ready until he realized “Oh it’s an infant!! no harm!!” And then the DREAD ON HIS FACE
Omg the when the songs music changes to the lullaby notes, its gutwrenching
This is amazing! I especially love the moment at 1:45 - I've always wondered what might happen in that scene and this is just the perfect explanation! Also how Odysseus is led to the infant's room by Zeus is such an interesting approach, I have not seen that in any other animatic to this song yet. It is very well made!
"BUT NOW WE'LL BE THE ONES TO ✨slay✨💅"
1:08 Banana peels... 🍌 Banana peels... 🍌 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love the detail of the easy to scale wall!
I like how the part where Zeus comes in has the same beat as "survive" or that "survive" has the same beat as this! showing how in those moments our main character boy here (who I don't want to try to remember the name of) becomes a monster, like in "just a man" where he tries to figure out the difference between; a man and a monster, but later on in "my goodbye" Athena says (with the disembodied voices of the Dead) 'you're just a man'; after he decides to spare the Cyclops which shows that he is no longer a monster! he's given up on that, and also the fact that Athena told him to kill the Cyclops-much like! how Zeus told him to kill the child!
At 3:30, the visual story telling where you use the crib to make it appear as if Zeus' eagle is sitting on a throne. Beautiful. Amazing. This animatic deserves so much more attention oml

Only way I see that infant becoming an agent of vengeance is with the help of the gods they’re kinda asses like that lol
Yeah, the whole conversation between Zeus and Odysseus is basically "What if I just raise him as my own and don't tell him who he really is?" "Then I'll tell him!" "Why would you do that?" "Look, I just really want to see a baby go 'splat'."

Your animatics always make me love the songs way more than I would if I had only listened to the audio. The art/visuals you do always add so much life and emotion into the song!
you included an ARC SHOT in this! that is my favorite camera technique be cuase it has so many different meanings depending on how you do it! the way you did it here, 3:16, successfully conveyed the desperation of Odyssyus, pleading, begging, and searching for another way that this could end. Well done!!
When I heard the words “tell me how” I instantly thought about Survive
I admit, first time I saw Neo scene at the beginning I got chilled… 😨 it is so well-done !
Neo has been through it
Funny thing about the Infant section; there is an 'alternate telling' where the boy (Astyanax) does survive. He is taken away from Greece, renamed "Francus" and grows up. He does not seek revenge nor knows anything about his parentage, ends up founding the beginning of France and becomes an ancestor to Charlemagne. So yeah, Zeus lied.
But that is a BIG maybe alternative timeline. The Gods that were on Trojan would made sure that Astyanax knows about his heritage and push him to vengeance. So Zeus didn't lie.
*This is officially the best one I’ve watched.* The others people are producing are good, but they don’t have nearly as much vision and dynamism as yours!! You’re so skilled, amazing job!!!
The blood on your hands is something you won't lose, all you can choose is who's is the coldest line ever, damn.
In my opinion, of all the animators who tried to recreate this particular song and part of the story - you did the best! Damn, if only it was still a lineart and in color, mmm. Sweet delight🤤🤍
"I can raise him as my own, or send him far away from home, make sure his past is never known" just hits the ears so good
"today we will slaaaaaay"" "yass queen"
The baby just looking at Odysesus like "Sup"
