Can you use a 223 suppressor on a 22LR???

  • Couldn’t sense much change. You’re right in that it depends on what you do most. Thank you for the show. Keep it up.

  • Pay the extra cent or two per round for FMJ subsonics and you dont have to worry about lead fouling. I have 2000+ rounds of American eagle 45gr .22lr subsonics through a Surefire Socom Mini II with no noticable lead fouling or build up. I'm paying 12c a round for them, which is still a multitude cheaper than subsonic 9mm or 45acp. I also do shoot American eagle 55gr and Sig Sauer Marksman 77gr OTM rounds through it to so it does get to be self cleaned.

  • I didn’t notice a big difference between the two but for me if I had both 22 and 233 I’d just get the 223 suppressor and use it for both.

    @anthonyguidas2012@anthonyguidas201211 ай бұрын
    • If you're going to do that, make sure you get one that comes apart. The higher pressure of a .223 centerfire blows most of the crap out, making the can "self-cleaning" to an extent. That doesn't happen with .22LR, and they get all kinds of gunked up. Running excessive amounts of .22LR through a .223 suppressor that you can't clean is a really good way to wreck it.

      @bradsimpson8724@bradsimpson8724Ай бұрын
  • If you use a can on a rimfire make sure it can be disassembled for cleaning. Most centerfire cans can not be disassembled and cleaned. That's why they are not reccomended for 22lr. The 22 ammo os extremely dirty and leaves carbon and lead deposits on any muzzle device. If you can't clean them they build up and cause baffle strikes. Most centerfire cans will be quieter though as they usually have a larger gas volume. Don't shoot to many rimfires through the banish 223 so you don't have to clean the cruddy out.

    • Exactly right, my high pressure cans rated for ultra mags has a welded baffle stack and can't be disassembled.

    • Yes and no. I agree I wouldn't set and run 500rds of 22 through my 30 cal can just because but... I've actually done some testing trying to get buildup in a centerfire can with 22s then shooting a high pressure load just to see what would happen. I can tell honestly tell ya there's no buildup left after a few 308 rounds. That high pressure basically pressure washes the inside of your can. Amazing what you can do with a cheap amazon snake cam. Now could there be something cause a catastrophic failure? Absolutely. But a box of 22 here and there I don't think will hurt anything.

    • @@bobcowan1943 My Ruger silent SR is serviceable being a rimfire silencer as is my Octane 9 pistol silencer due to the base of most pistol rounds having exposed lead bases. There should be no need to service a dedicated rifle silencer shooting high pressure with no exposed lead rounds.

    • What is this idea .22LR ammo is dirty or more dirty than other cartridges??? I have no doubt there’s low quality bad abd dirty .22 ammo out there. However why the sweeping generalization?

      @danielcurtis1434@danielcurtis143411 ай бұрын
    • @@danielcurtis1434 Usually most generic cheap stuff is loaded with cheaper side of powder which will burn unclean. Second factor there is that most semi-automatic 22lr guns are blowback operated which mean that unburned crap will shoot back with some force when case is ejecting. And when when compine two very common facts we get pretty general rule why 22lr will dirty your gun very quicly. Doesn't help when we take account it is that cheap stuff which will get shot a most of time because very obvious reason.

  • There was so little difference between the .223 can & the .22 can , that I really couldn't tell the difference . One things for certain, that Bergara is super quiet , the only advantage I see for the bigger .223 can is that it will fit all the bing bangs up to .224. Besides the extra cost the other disadvantage of the .223 can is that they are considerably bigger and presumably heavier as well. Thanks Adam that was a really interesting test . catch you next episode , Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well.

  • Any suppressor works well. They take away the need for hearing protection, but you will still hear the sound barrier being broken. Get 22lr that is subsonic running at 950 fps. The it will be quiet. If you own a Ruger 10/22 they make items for it that will take the sound of the gun cycling out. It will become MOVIE quiet.

One thing is for sure: if you want to get a 223 can for your AR and want one for your 22lr and can only get one, get the 223 first so you can use it on either one until you can get the 22lr can. I mean, the 223 can is the size of the pistol and looks crazy but it will save your ears if you want to do some varmint hunting or just want to ring some steel on your property and don't want to wear any ear protection.

  • I would love to see this experiment with supersonic ammo only. Many people shoot .22lr supersonic ammo through their rifles without ear protection...including myself, but when it comes to .22lr pistols most (Including Myself), shoot with ear protection. I have a 9mm pistol rated can that I run on a couple of my .22lr pistols once in awhile. I have been thinking about buying a .22lr dedicated can, but if a 5.56 can will do it all, why not just buy the 5.56 can? I know that the 5.56 cans are larger and heavier for the most part, but If I can find a relatively smaller diameter 5.56 can made from titanium, maybe I could find the perfect balance. Also, I am not a fan of subsonic ammo. Even for target shooting. If I am going to shoot something that needs shooting, I am not going to spend money on firearm cartridges that produce results equal to, or less than an air rifle. No sense in targeting/plinking with weak ammo if you're going to use the stronger stuff when it counts. Thanks for your candid, honest and no BS videos!

    • @@Thumper68 God bless you, you are very fortunate. I have no family history of deafness or early hearing loss and my hearing has been severely damaged by similar events. That includes firearms, military flight line (runways)/aircraft and construction sites. It only shows that everyone is different and it's not worth the risk, not when it takes a second to use modern, easy and comfortable to use ear pro.
