Even in the talent-rich world of MMA, Bo Nickal is a real standout. Started wrestling at the age of 5. That there is the reason he is so good. So many times i see people saying "mountain genetics" when talking about Dagestanis disregarding the fact that they like Bo have been training their entire life.
Yup a child's muscle memory is far more obtainable, it's the same thing in professional pool. Most of the greats started at 5, like Effren Rayes.

When I used to take chinese kenpo in the 80's, our sensei taught us to go from 1 motion to the next fluidly, instead of stiffness. I'm guessing Bo learned that philosophy as well.
Some people complain about Bo being ranked, or being on the main card. But the entire UFC roster is suspiciously quiet. No one is really calling him out outside of the top guys. If you don't like his rank or treatment, step up and do something about it.

I recall two knee kicks to the groin on one opponent and an elbow to the face of another in that "opponents he fought roster" shown in this PR flick. But overall, yah, he seems so far a legitimate fair fighter, a real quick demon, and able to repeatedly change strategies on the go when opportunities present themselves. 👍

His striking isn't THAT good though. He does have dynamite in his fists though for sure... The wrestling threat opens up opponents for the heavy shot a bit like Khabib
People who complain about Bo, or say he's overrated JUST DON'T GET IT. Is he invincible? No - neither is ANYONE. However, he's definitely one of the best of the best of the best athletes out there.

Wow, this guy is next level. Nailing it in all aspects of his life. I especially like how he hit some failures in his life but just hangs in there and keeps moving forward, finding new ways to succeed.
He's got amazing footwork for the striking. Able to move in, deliver a strike and be back out very quickly over and over. Impressive stuff.

The second he announced his upcoming transition over to MMA, I was excited. We've seen great wrestlers in MMA, but he's truly one of the collegiate phenoms.

What excites me about Bo is that they're really pacing him gradually. His level of dedication to training and eliminating distractions and vices is commendable. He seems patient, calculated and committed to the long game.

If you have ever trained, you know Bo is going to be difficult to take out. His muscle memory is second to none. His chin is what people need to see. I'm looking forward to watching his career.

Yeah, hopefully, he doesn't have a glass jaw. There are plenty of amazing guys that just can't hang due to being overly prone to being knocked out. I remember when Liddell's jaw suddenly became his kryptonite later in his career.

Looks like the judge just missed it, and it definitely lead to him ultimately getting submitted. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like the knee was intentionally aimed for the nuts, I think he was clearly aiming for inner thigh.

Oh hell ya! He's an amazingly gifted and quick competitor. Everyone knows wrestling is the base you want for MMA. 1. Wrestling, 2. Boxing, 3. HEART, 4. BJJ, LOVE IT AND NEVER QUIT!!! Bo is right up there with test p4p wrestlers in the world. Only a handful of people born have that sort of speed, agility, toughness, transitions. He's just a freak of nature....

Now that i just read your comment, i had to mention this fact. about 10 or11 months back i was in the Penn st. area at a "sheetz gas station" getting gas and notice these real two SHADY cats seriously eyeing and approaching a man (with his back exposed to these tattooed faced fools) putting his little baby in the back seat. I then, very aggressively told those shady tatt wearers to back up and don't even think about it. They immediately backed up and walked away, it was a week later that i realized it WAS Bo putting his baby in the backseat. He had NO CLUE this TRUE event even happened, my point is that i'm SO GLAD i was there at that very moment !! Best wishes to you and yours and stay safe out there.

Both these guys had tatts on there faces and necks and i didnt like the way they were eyeballing and approaching him while his back was turned and there was a baby involved. I did not know it was Bo at that moment, it was only when it was over and he turned around that i recognized him. As a lifelong martial artist myself since 69, i was always taught to practice and have a very keen situational awareness. That attribute HAS saved me and others many times over the decades. Very best wishes to you and yours brother.
This Bo guy is the real deal, he has earned his way into the ranking. I wish him continued success in upcoming fights and, you can't take anything away from his desire to be the best.

Him and his crew sparred at my gym one time, and those guys could not have been nicer to us. They all had cauliflower ears and looked very serious (and scary lol), but they were so so so polite and courteous to us, regular practitioners, they instantly earned my respect! Good luck to Bo Nickal!!!

Honestly, I think most of the trash talk is just him understanding the "hype game". I could be wrong, but I think he only does the trash talk to raise drama/awareness and increase purses. It's a tried and true formula many competitors use.
Watching him wrestle in college was something, now here he is rocking the nation again.

All I can say is this man definitely has a lot of town and seeing him do his stuff is quite amazing to watch
Solid base indeed and he's learning fast. Has a strong physical understanding and ability... looks great in the moment at his young age. None of that will be what takes him far.... his attitude is what's going to make him unstoppable. Of course everyone gets stopped eventually and in fight sports that stoppage can be rather hard. I'll like to see him progress and even more like to see how he handles getting handled when it happens. In the meantime he seems like a good kid.

This guy is not just a wrestler, he's a world class wrestler. The drive and perseverance it takes to reach this level is unbelievable. The fact that he's ranked in MMA shouldn't surprise anyone.
Only thing I can say is, you do not broadcast your intentions, you do not bask in glory for victories yet unwon, and you stay humble, authentic, focused, connected, present, and silent as your journey unfolds. That is how a master handles himself.

Part of that was marketing and making sure that he was getting the attention of Dana White. He's not just a fighter. This is his job. And in this line of work, challenging other people explicitly is one way to get more work (i.e., fights). It has been done that way for a long time in different fighting sports. Calling out the next guy you want, etc. Sounds dumb, but that's how they do it. People who watch this are watching people trying to kick the crap out of others. But if they say, "I'm better than you," they get all annoyed like the guy should be humbler. It's weird. haha

He's already a master of footwork and distance management but from a wrestling perspective rather than striker roots like an Anderson Silva and I think its translating into MMA super well. His takedown threat and great feinting is opening guys up for some well thrown bombs. Reminds me of Dan Henderson, but way more agile.
