  • Isn’t it funny how Steve can make a near 11 year old product sound just as desirable today as it was back when it was originally announced? Edit: Wow! Three years on and this comment still gets reactions. Despite time continuing to pass, my feelings are still the same. There is just such a “wow” factor with his presentations. They truly seem timeless.

Their laptops need FaceID. Their phones need USB-C and smaller bezels. iOS desperately needs better notifications.

  • It's 2021 and almost the same exact design is instantly recognisable and still more than fits the mean in most environments. In the world of tech this truely was unprecedented. Like I'm sure you could nitpick bits like the HDD inside and the resolution (but really 1280x800 ain't too bad), and of course the performance envelope has some way to go, but that is quite honestly to be expected. Yet you could put this 13 year old laptop in front of just about anyone today and maybe it wouldn't be the most cutting edge, but it would still look/feel like a relatively modern sleek and slim design; I just can't imagine that for any other tech product over a similar period of time. Apple are famous for what they did with the PC, the iPod, the Smart Phone etc. but what they did with the UltraBook has to be their most underrated accomplishment; there are still elements of this design/product that current laptop manufacturers are working towards, more than a decade later. Not to drag on too much but imagine picking up and maybe even having to use this for a bit today in 2021 and compare that to picking up a laptop from 2002 in 2015, or even a laptop from 1997 in 2010.

    • Nope, Sony had already thinner laptops like the X505 before the air was even introduced. Apple doesn't invent things. They claim they do but in all fairness, they lie a LOT. The ipod wasn't the first mp3 player with an hdd (not even the best when it came out). They did introduce far better tablets (pda) than available at the time. The smartphone market exploded due to the iphone (but again they weren't first. The app store made the most impact). W/o Steve they were going bankrupt. If he hadn't come back, apple would've been ancient history like xerox for instance. Heck, Bill Gates helped Apple when Steve came back with both money and software! Gates did this to protect MS but if he hadn't ....

    • @@gwenwalravens8030 The X505 was first (and beautiful) but it didn't have the cross appeal for mass consumption, designed as a luxury device. It also had 4:3 screen ratio.

    • Apple has lost their touch when it comes to innovation. Microsoft is now leading in this department with their surface series. I'd highly recommend taking a look at them.
