Assisi and Italian Country Charm

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2016 | In the Italian countryside, we'll connect with rustic, traditional culture: enjoying an agriturismo (farmhouse inn), seeing how prosciutto and pecorino cheese are made, and hiking to the bottom of deep and ancient wine cellars. We'll end in Assisi - the hometown of St. Francis - which retains its spiritual aura to this day. Like pilgrims, we'll explore its stony center before trekking to its awe-inspiring basilica, built on the tomb of the beloved saint. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #assisi

  • I`ve been to Tuscany 3 times and there isn`t any better human beings and beauty on earth. They respect everything. At the time my ex girlfriend owned a beautiful old rustic house in the mountains in Tuscany. We made lot`s of friends and they were AMAZING PEOPLE. We always went out with them. Some were Communist, Libertarian, Capitalist, Socialist and could sit together and talk politics with respect and love for each other . We drank and loved together and realized this is the human race at it ultimate best. IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL, I wish was I born there instead of here, especially right now. The Italian people have given me hope that human`s, especially Americans SHOULD LEARN FROM.

  • It just blows my mind that people usually go to Italy and visit Rome, Milan and Florence which are indeed nice places but, there's so much more about Italy than its larger cities, small villages have always dragged my attention.

    • Lodbrok yes it s true : usually the foreigner tourists, specially from USA , visit only the usual and crowded attractions and lose or ignore the 75 % of the Italian beauty and culture, its a question of ignorance : they are not visitors but buyers of commercial tourist offer

      @romanobenini3331@romanobenini33315 жыл бұрын
    • The greater numbers, yes, do start out in the larger cities, but many inbound groups are on a pilgrimage of sorts as well and make it a point to visit the smaller towns, or villages of their Saints. Day excursions are planned out and included (sometimes as an optional of the main tour) to these hidden, but remarkable, gems. I've overnighted with my groups in a few Assisi hotels overlooking the beautiful valley below. Some of my favorite memories of Italia. Thanks to Rick for capturing, airing, and posting these tours.

    • Well, many are first time visitor, and many will probably only visit a foreign country like once in their life time. Of course, ignorance can be one of the factors, but it can't be help that people would choose the popular sites just to be safe.

Married and travelled all over the world as well as living in some other countries, I now have moved back to my mother country, Indonesia. But what a life I've lived w him in this country until I lost him 4 years ago. Only 5 months now that I have left this country for good but happy and grateful to have been to all these marvellous places w its traditions and life styles having lived in Milan as our home base all throughout. I thank God every day that Italy has been a big and long chapter of my life, something that came unexpectedly, and beyond imaginations. Thank you for your lovely videos.

The center-south is literally in apnea ostracized both economically, socially and mediatically, and drowns in poverty, salaries are not enough to live! but I understand that the eyes of the tourist fortunately have another perspective. look at the salaries of the center-south of the Italians, they are scandalous, they do not allow them to live, it is tantamount to the tip that certain parents in america give their children to go out in the evening.

  • All your videos are amazing! Thank you for keeping my memories alive😊 Luckily l have traveled most of my life, first as the daughter of a diplomat, then after the end of a thirty year marriage to an Italian, still living in Italy😍 at the age of 53, my passion for travel was allowed to flourish again in the company of Luigi, the love of my life! All of your travels take me back to the numerous countries we have been to, you narrate so accurately 👍 Now after 17 years, because of Coronavirus, Luigi has left me, but l keep traveling with Rick Steves for the time being!

  • Every frame in this video of the inside/outside of the St. Francis churches is a lovely portrait that I wish I can hang all around my house. What a beautiful, beautiful place. The life lived by St . Francis is similar to Budha who also left riches and sought a simple life and God.
