  • I like how Neo wrapping the rope around his arm, is the ultimate show of faith, trust and bravery. Instead of holding on to it in a way where he can let go, if need be, he fully ties himself down, like he is thinking that either he gets Trinity, or he goes down with her.

    • Just an amazing piece of photography. The copter scene is crazy. I know that was an actual copter flying, but those weren't real actors hanging...just crash test dummies, I hope. Then the copter into the building was CGI, I think. Just a brilliant piece of editing and stunt work. The original Matrix was so good. Too bad they couldn't match that level in the sequels. Anyone see the Resurrection sequel, cause I didn't when I knew that Laurence Fishburne was not returning...which made no sense. No original Morpheus...no way!

    • @@garyspence2128 You should. Imo it´s the second best Matrix movie if you can get differntiate between setting and intent. The whole movie is basically a meta commentary on franchise pressure, fandom, marketing, what went wrong with sequels and the conflict between creators vs. hollywood executives while not taking itself to serious. It´s not a masterpiece but it´s a fun little romp full of satire and self-awareness.

      @GMax17@GMax175 ай бұрын
    • @@GMax17 it wasn't just starvation and insults. first he had been beaten and broken beyond his ability to ignore the rules of the matrix, so he was feeling like someone who got Rodney King'd by a literal squad of swat. THEN they proceed to inject him with how the hell knows what drug to further push his mental state into chaos, probably forced him to not have any rest or comfort at all. And that's just what we see. I mean keep in mind all of that is just visual, what's actually happening is that his brain is being aggressively hacked into by foreign software, trying to literally rewrite his brain into a different, more maliable state. He's being actively brainwashed, and/or having his mind overwritten by the machines. That cannot feel good. Given the people like the agents, and the rebels know how to basically do magic in the matrix, by just thinking about having things work differently, the fact that we don't see hot pokers and thumbscrews, doesn't mean he isn't being tortured.

    • Every 10 years or so someone comes up with a truly unique and visionary idea. Something nobody has done before. The Wachowski's just sittin at home eaten fruit loops when one of them says "i got it, ok so we do slow motion right? Like reeeaalllly slow, but hol up, thats not all. What if, bear with me here, but what if we *move the camera at the same time*??? Like, all around, much faster than a normal camera could ever move. You know, like a full 360 at normal speed but the action is in slowmo." And just like that they created a fad that has been ripped off at least 100x and that not one movie has ever managed to do better.

Everything up to this point was absolutely phenomenal and completely new to us and we were whispering about how cool it was, but it was the shot of the impact wave on the building and Trinity swinging away from the explosion that will forever be stuck in my memory. I was actually sitting with my mouth open in complete awe and when I looked over to my friends they were staring silently at the screen. All their faces had the expression of witnessing something they had never seen before and like they were not able to put into words what exactly they were experiencing. This memory is a very important reminder for me about the difference between watching a film at home on your small screen or a movie as a shared experience in the theater.

    • Smith clearly displays some emotion though. Being "tired of this shit" is still an emotion, lol. The machine programs can still learn to feel, or have some capacity of that already pre-built into their program. I know some people discount the 2nd and 3rd movies but the 3rd movie especially shows that some programs can even love (Sati and her parents, her father describing how he feels love and what it means to him.) Smith also explains in the 2nd movie how he felt "a certain satisfaction" when he shot and presumably killed Neo near the end of the 1st movie, before he gets up and goes all "One" on them, lol. But yea, I always loved the delivery of that line too.

The panic on Trinity’s face as the snap hook signals that Neo is still holding the rope. The precise shot, even the way she’s holding the rope. It’s the trilogy’s climax. We looked through the newspaper to see what was in theatres (as you did back then) and came across "The Matrix", which my dad wasn't a fan of as it seemed too much of an action movie for 12 year olds. We persuaded him in the end and went to see it with the two of us and my god, did that evening change my life. People born in that year are now 22 years old, impossible for my brain to comprehend. The whistling concussion of the Agent's .50 hand canons, the playful tinkle of falling brass from the minigun, the ethereal moan of rippling superstructure before an explosion of glass and steel. It's one of the key elements sorely missing from the sequels and especially The Matrix: Resurrections.

From a character perspective, it's the defining moment for Neo when we realize what the Oracle said was not true and because of that it's also a sort of twist to the plot. When he grabs the rope you have no idea what's actually about to happen. And then from an action perspective it was just a totally jaw dropping sequence. The entire thing is mind-blowing, starting from the lobby and culminating in the helicopter crash. Pure movie magic.

    • i dont belive neo is the one hes tallented but after seeing the theories that smith is the one and when the oracle said hes not the one i think hes just a skilled hacker in the system and the machines only used him to get rid of smith since smith was was just starting to understand after he was unplugged by neo that he had full control of the matrix and he made it in his image
