American Auto Failures: JEEP
What else would you guys like to see? What do you think? I am an independent film maker, soon to be energy drink manufacturer with a passion for cars, caffeine, and cinematography. Place your requests below and enjoy the film about Jeep.
Just to reiterate, I love the Jeep community, in fact, it is one of the most loyal, caring, and enthusiastic in the car community. Which is why I made this video, I care about the community, and it pains me to see what is happening.
Ironically, I never thought I would ever purchase a BMW, I always listened to my favorite KZheadrs like Scotty Kilmer, however, after spending over a month in Germany and driving their cars (rentals), I fell in love with them.
Being in the museums there, seeing the pride the company takes in their product changed my outlook. Why doesn't the Jeep company care more? Why doesn't the Jeep company go the extra mile? They could obtain additional revenue streams from not even selling cars.

This hit me in the feels, not just as a Jeep owner but also owning the last model year before Jeep became Fiat. Earned my sub.
Thank you for the sub my friend. More content like this will be posted. It hurt me to make this, but it had to be done. Jeep is such a wonderful brand, its personal for me. Maybe this will change ideas at Jeep leadership.
If you are spending that sort of cash they better get you a,loaner for overnight repairs without being told.
The second you have ANY issues with that BMW, GET RID OF IT! If you don't it will cost you dearly.
Gone are the days when BMWs and Mercedes Benz made cars that a person could drive for years, sell it, and the next owner could drive it for more years. Those car makers found out that they couldn't make money on cars that lasted for at least 500 thousand miles. German engineering went out the window. Now they make cars that are meant to be leased for 3 years and then turned in for a newer model.
Jeeps have always been POS...you kids want to look cool. This is the price you pay.
If they would just stop trying to build Jeeps as luxury vehicles and start making real Jeeps again people would start buying them again.
No, Jeeps are trash and always have been and always will be. Nothing new.
@@doctordetroit4339 I disagree that they always have been, but I do agree but they always will be moving forward.
@@doctordetroit4339they were good before Daimler. After that it went downhill immediately
Nobody wants an $80,000 Vehicle, it doesn't matter, Car ,Truck or SUV ... Electric , Gas or Diesel ...
Honestly, I completely agree. I purchased a BMW M340i and aside from my house, that was the biggest purchase I have ever made. If it wasn't due to the fact that I need a performance car for my business, I simply wouldn't do it. And that wasn't even 80k.
we need to get back to the 18k to 35k jeeps
Lol the process is easy to fix. Quit voting in Democrats. Have Term limits and don't allow conceted people to go to Congress. ( And when I say connected I mean on a multi national level Connected to huge Multi National companies. We need to shut off the idea of being lifelong government officials getting wealthy by corporate donors and worldwide elites.
Actually, it depends. In talking with my local Lamborghini dealer, I can order a new Huracan and it will be delivered in about two years. This is the price I pay to buy one at MSRP with no markup while the used car market prices are still insane. And all these prices are north of $230K. So I'd say if I can get a 2 year old Huracan with low mileage with documented service for $100K, I'd buy it in an instant much less at $80K!🙂🙂🙂
lol tell that to Any German manufacturer. No one wants an 80k jeep is what you’re saying.. People who can spend that for a car sure as hell don’t want a bullshit ass jeep.
$80k for a wrangler is absurd
I totally agree. I can’t believe what is happening to such a wonderful brand.
Those 392s are gonna be over $100k now. Insane.
@@GrymmEvil It's such an insane price, they are literally just trying to milk as much money as they can out of the Wrangler community.
@@A-BombEnergy People buy them too because of the lure of "exclusivity" so Stellantis just learns the wrong lessons from it. We've been wanting a factory V8 Jeep for YEARS but not current Jeep and not a four door only IMO.
@@GrymmEvil I would LOVE a factory V8 but not in that price range. I can accept the 4 door though, we differ there :) but yeah, I can pick up what you are putting down.
Reject modern jeep, return AMC and Willy's jeeps back to life!
At minimum, I wish they would just create the minimalist Jeep and have it be a heritage line. Thanks for the comment my friend.
@@A-BombEnergy The off-road duty of the original Jeep has been filled by SxS and UTV's like Polaris line-up. Likewise the Toyota 4runner is a better general-purpose vehicle than the Jeep. So the Jeep's only loyal customers are those that want the image and recognition of owning an American icon. Jeep doesn't need to be a good to sell to these loyal customers, and they are enough of them to keep Stellantis in business.
When they got rid of the xj the writing was on the wall 😢
The TJ is great, but I cant stand the idea of having the engine run by a computer. putting a down payment on a CJ5 with a chevy 350 small block swapped into it soon.
@@00x0xx I agree, it's like the people that still buy catilacs and Buicks because they think they're still good vehicles. Toyota is following the same notion that more technology makes a better car like most companies now on the other hand, the biggest problem with modern cars and trucks. You don't need your car to be constantly connected to a network or have different drive modes, you only need to know how to operate it
They stopped making great jeeps once they killed off the TJ line. The 4.0 was the best motor they ever had. The vehicles size was perfect. And the coil spring suspension was the perfect combo for the vehicle.
Totally agree with sir. It’s why and so many jeepers keep them. Thanks for commenting my friend
Agreed! No Jeep since has been worth owning
4.0 was better with the AMC XJ Cherokee AW4 transmission. Nothing reliable from Chrysler.
And the 4.0 is so much better than the 3.8 pentastar.
They are going to price themselves out of existence.
It's a sad truth...it's unbelievable. I hope this video gets seen by Jeep leadership. Maybe they will change?
Chrysler has been a debt juggernaut that is a zombie producer since the GFC
Good, they are fiat Italian junk of crap that need to stop existing
That's the plan.
Almost 2 years ago I considered buying a Chrysler product, and was between a Wrangler, Gladiator, Cherokee, and a Ram 1500. I did a lot of research and decided against it. I went with a Lexus GX instead. It cost about the same as well-equipped Wrangler and has a bulletproof V-8. 30k miles later, it has never had even one minor mechanical issue and looks as good as the day we bought it.
Hey, I am really happy to hear that you are doing well with you Lexus. I have to say, that is a beautiful car and I imagine it will outlast 99% of cars on the market. Nobody can question the Toyota reliability. I saw those things everywhere in Africa, they usually had some interesting equipment mounted on them too...
Wish we could follow the Japs on reliability
The new Lexus GX is amazing. I agree with you. You made the right decision
GX and Land Cruiser are the best vehicles ever built. There's absolutely no comparison with any Chrysler product. You definitely made the right decision.
The problem is now even Toyota is having problems. They had to stop making the venerable 4.7 and 5.7 V8's. The new engines are having too many failures. Best you can say now is the (2023+) toyotas are the "Least Worst". When they used to be The Best.
I purchased a 1995 XJ with the straight 6 new and put 260,000 miles on it with no major problems except the water pump at 115k miles. The Jeep was still in good shape when I sold it (big mistake). My next Jeep was a 2014 Wrangler that I purchased with 85k miles on it and holy hell it was a disaster. By 110k I had experienced an oil cooler failure, 3 seperate oil leaks, transmission problems and all sorts of electrical issues. It even left me stranded twice. Fast forward to today and I'm a proud Subaru owner and will never go back.
Wow! What a story good sir, I have heard many like this too. I have to say, my 2018 JL left me stranded once...and it was a horrible day at work and being stranded just intensified the complication of the day. My TJ and XJ has never left me stranded...so I fell ya. What kind of Subi do you have?
The oil cooler on the 3.6 Pentastar.... thank the accountants for this cost cutting choice... I would never use plastic on this or place it there...
Sad but truly understood. I'm in a 03 TJ , 4.0, 5 spd. Mnl.that is going to be my last vehicle. Well unless it gets totaled in an accident, it doesn't leave the road.
My wife has a 93 4.0 with only 64,000 miles on it hard top a/c that the options. Been offered $12,000 This jeep is a keeper. Had a 2014 rubicon unlimited x package and sold it in 2022 with 5,500 miles on it. Just didnt feel like a real jeep. No ruff ride and as big as a tahoe just not a good trail vehicle. The other option I forgot its automatic just plain 3sd no overdrive this jeep cost me $16,000 never again will jeeps be this cheap also a 54 M38A1 and a Cj5 plain jane 3spd stick 258 6cyl
Yes, the new ones are junk. only good for a Hemi retrofit. I got a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee 285k still going maybe 10k in repairs in 29 years with that including 6 sets of new tires.
This was really well done! I'm a former Jeep addict turned Toyota guy for the reasons you outlined.
Thank you kind sir! I have heard this story many times about former Jeepers switch to Toyota or other brands. I am really like BMW...
I am with you! I also worked for Jeep as a tech, manager and warranty auditor. I now own a 4Runner.
All car manufacturers should do direct sales to the public. The dealership franchise system really screws the consumer.
Preach brother.
But there are way too many people out there who still are going to buy these overpriced cars and don´t realize how much they are getting screwed.
Problem is people would like the dealers if it wasnt a ram rod scam job. If we get rid of them now you cant go see the vehicle in person before you buy it.
Well….. The manufacturers have gone to NTSB With hat in hand asking for regulations that require expensive technology that isn’t necessary for purchasers but can’t opt out of. And then the dealership isn’t helping the situation
If it weren't for the Chicken Tax and our failed CAFE standards, the American car market would look very different. A lot of what's wrong with the American car industry falls at the feet of lawmakers. I'm kind of a sucker for defunct American brands; I miss Pontiac and Oldsmobile, if that points you in a direction. Good content! Subbed.
I absolutely love those oldie brands! I hate to say even old (Pontiac isn't old!). You speak a lot of truth my friend. Thank you for the sub, I hope to see you in the comments on the next documentary film. Coming soon :)
The chicken tax is keeping Ford and Chrysler alive. Otherwise they'd get ravaged by foreign auto manufacturers
I took my factory-ordered 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk in for the "free oil change" and upon arriving home and checking the oil discovered that the person who did the oil change filled the oil all the way to the top. Not kidding, I drained MANY quarts of oil out before it was to normal levels. It was the one and ONLY time I have or will ever have someone else change my oil and was a hard reminder as to why I never let others touch my vehicles.
Man that is nuts! Its like the simplest jobs get messed up. I changed the oil on my JL today and it was so easy, the trick though...you put 5 quarts of oil in...no more...no less...tough stuff haha.
Jeep has a following that is second to none, but a big part of that has always been the low entry price. I’ve owned Jeeps for decades now, but I wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for being able to purchase an inexpensive Wrangler when I was young. They’ve now priced themselves completely out of the range of the younger generation and put themselves in the luxury car market with no basis for being there. Their packages in no way compare to those of other brands. Range Rover is really their main competitor now (at their price ranges), who also did something similar, but Rovers are luxury vehicles now. Jeep is trying to build base vehicles for luxury prices to rip off their loyal customer base. I currently own three Jeeps: a '22 Grand Cherokee, a '22 Gladiator, and a '93 Cherokee. At the pace the competition is going, my next upgrade will most likely be a Jeep competitor. We’ve been a Jeep family for years, and Jeep is failing us. I also agree the Jeep Wave program is a complete joke, and insulting to the Jeep community that began the real Jeep wave.
Great Content BTW, liked and Subscribed, hopefully this gets some reach.
Brother, you are preaching some serious truth in this comment. My family has been a LOYAL Jeep family for a long time too, and I bought my first Jeep in 2018 after a deployment. Got ripped off by the dealer (they undercoated it and hid rust) and luckily, I was able to trade it in at a dealership in upstate NY and they didn't care about the rust. Got my Jeep JL brand new but it was such a stretch to purchase because how expensive it was. I cannot imagine now buying a Jeep for what they are asking. I just bought a 2022 BMW M340i...and WOW is that car a blast and its cheaper than MOST Jeeps. I still have my Jeeps and I love them...but I am not sure if I'll ever buy a new one. How do you like the Gladiator? I rented on in FL a year-ish go and I loved it tbh...almost considered getting one but I just couldn't do the price. Thanks for the sub and comment, it really helps.
@@A-BombEnergyI love the Gladiator. It’s exactly what I wanted in a Jeep truck - a Wrangler with a bed. It did take some getting used to though, as my previous two Jeeps before the Gladiator were a '14 JK 2-door, and a '99 TJ 2-door before that. The Gladiator is over double their length. However, now that I’m an older dad, I needed that extra space. With that said, this purchase is the one that made me start to see the failings of Jeep, and made me rethink my brand loyalty. I almost went with a Tacoma as you can get more features for about 10k less. Jeep didn’t even have adaptive cruise control until this year in any of their vehicles, and still, they won’t include it in sport models. With all that said, I love taking the top off so I still went with the Jeep. I’ve heard rumblings that Stellantis is starting to get the message, and maybe rethinking their pricing, and It appears they have begun to at least acknowledge they have to keep up with technology features to stay relevant. Here's hoping anyway.
Range Rover? For a similar price I could certainly get a better Bronco right now.
Very true but… Ford is horrible as well now. Nothing worse than Stellantis, but in the last 20 years I don’t think an automaker’s reputation has dropped more than Fords. My business has 3 very nice Lariat F150s less than 10 years old and all less than 120k total all highway miles. All 3 have had to have complete transmission and engine replacements. If you want a current off-road vehicle, there’s only 2 choices: Suburu for fireroads and Toyota for the harder stuff. Everything else is a fools errand.
Wait. People are paying big bucks for a dealership to do an oil change and then they drain the extra quart of oil out?! Umm. If they are capable of draining engine oil, they ought to be doing their own oil changes!
People were draining the 1 quart of oil when they got the free oil change. They weren't paying for oil changes...although I am sure some do pay for them, but I doubt they are draining 1 quart of oil. I used my 4 free oil changes and drained 1 quart out every time. After the 4 free changes were used, I now change my own oil. It's simple and it doesn't get overfilled.
on new vehicle sometimes it is best to get the dealerships to do the oil changes for warranty coverage.
The car companies don’t hate the consumers. They hate the fact that we repair our vehicles. That’s why they keep trying to make them more complicated and less reliable
And mechanics are leaving at a furious pace. I have to wait at least 4 weeks for a basic repair.
They dont want us working on our own stuff because they make them so junk and expensive. Reliability and afforfability means different things to us than it does to the auto industry
No the US government did, they cat sell a modern vehicle without a backup camera. And that's just one rule
Add in NO DIPSTICK for transmission! I don't care how good fluids have become.....fluid changes are cheaper than parts!
Jeep is following the inverse correlation of "make it worse and sell it for more" quite vigorously. I went to a Jeep dealership a few months ago and asked how many people they had let go. When the sales rep. said "None", I told him maybe I'd be back when the had learned something. I'm now looking at Toyotas again.
I cannot agree more. They seem to think they are invincible...I don't get it. Treat the customers like we are the lifeline of the company...oh wait we are. I own two small businesses and I cannot imagine for the life of me treating my customers that way. What kind of Toyota are you looking at? 4Runner? Taco?
@@A-BombEnergyHaving owned 5 Toyotas over the last 20 years, I am totally sold on them and wouldn’t consider any other brand. While there are undoubtedly some Toyota stealerships around, my dealership repair shop is as honest and competent as any that I have ever worked with.
Its like tesla saying they sell every cybertruck they make but then they dont want you selling it for a year. Surrree bud. So popular new yorkers who dont even drive still havent bought one.
I own a 2001 XJ with the 4.0. I rebuilt the engine as a stroker with a Tupy head. That was 20K ago and, at 188,000 miles, runs like a champ on 87. It's a phenomenal vehicle. My daughter and her husband want a Jeep. I am going to use your video to try and persuade them to avoid the recent Jeep models. My daily is a Subaru Crosstrek which is perfect for my purpose. I do love my XJ.
Your on the right track, honestly going back to before 2003. Sticking with the 4.0, and avoiding everything later model with the v6 motors. As a mechanic I've installed probably 10 or more 3.8 and 3.3 v6, and rebuilt 2 4.0 motors (that ran perfectly but knock or smoke from piston flop). If you want a solid 4x4 Toyota 4 runners are in the same neighborhood price wise, or, if it's just a small 4x4 toy your looking for.... Mahindra roxor. Straight axle, small, jeep looking, reliable 4 cylinder turbo diesel..... Just throwing out some other angles to avoid the pitfalls of what jeep stand for. Jeep Just Empty Every Pocket

I remember when Jeep was for the average person, but now out of my price range forever. Junk now, can not go 70k without major repairs
You are not wrong at all. I bought my 2018 Jeep JL Manual Transmission...thinking "oh the manual will be bullet proof." NOPE. I have had the slave cylinder go out 3 times. Then I just recently had it overheat on me, and it was because of the metal cooling pipe got a pin size hole leak. What a horrible time it was replacing that pipe. Took 3 weeks with me every day working on it for about 1-2 hours.
@A-BombEnergy which cooling pipe, located where?
Sooooo, bailing companies out is a bad idea? Who'd of thunk....
In the next episode, I will discuss who still owes money from the bailout....
I don’t think a museum is going to fix Jeep. They’re going to need to listen to customers to course correct.
Can I ask you a serious question? The only “negative” (and I use quotations because I don’t think you mean to be negative) comment I’ve gotten is about the museum bit. Is me highlighting the high prices, lack of customer service, and poor manufacturing not clear enough in the video to where the only thing I hear a complaint about is the museum piece? I feel like those items I highlighted have very clear fixes, literally do the opposite. The impetus behind the museum, (which God help me I’m going to make it even more clear in the next video) is because I met a Porsche employee before and after he did the Porsche museum and track tour. The after was surprisingly different than the before. Thanks for commenting though, hope you have a great day.
Theyll be selling the same crap in 10 years and itll be even worse
I bought a brand new 2008 JKU Rubicon with the 3.8L and a manual trans. The Jeep was amazing offload but the second the tires hit pavement it became the biggest turd I have ever driven. That 3.8L dynoed @ 103hp at the rear wheels, my 1957 Jeep CJ5 with a 229 V-6 from a Monte Carlo had more hp!! (Don't even get me started on death wobble situation.) After owning it for 9 years, I compared the 2017 Grand Cherokee with the 2017 Ford Explorer Platinum. Chrysler wanted almost $15,000 more for the Grand Cherokee than the FULLY LOADED Explorer Platinum. So, I traded the JKU in on a 2017 Ford Explorer Platinum. The only thing I miss about the JK was the places we went with it, but I don't miss that JK even a little bit. The JK will be the last Chrysler product I will ever own. Honestly the government should of just Chrysler go bankrupt and disappear into the sunset.
You are a success story of someone who owned a JK and upgraded to a Ford and doesn't regret it. That 3.8L was a turd, its like you said, no horsepower. I can't believe they even put that engine in their lineup. The 4.0L destroys that engine in almost every measure...in fact...all measures. Have you looked at getting an old Wrangler and using it to go places your ford cant? Thanks for the comment.
Jku ain't too bad, it is a jeep after all not a hot rod😂 And from the sounds of some forums the 3.8 was more reliable too. Also that explorer is really reliable my mom has one at like over 150k miles hope you enjoy it ❤
@@sixpest The Duratech 3.5/3.7L engine (used in the Explorer, Flex and other lines) is a good motor, but the water pump is driven off the timing chain. A horrible design and very costly repair! You'll never really know when it'll go bad, and when it does, it floods the engine with coolant. Before you know it's leaking (internally) you've wasted crank\con rod bearings. With 150K on the clock it's not if but when will it leak and nuke the motor. Google it.
I payed 13900 for a 2004 jeep rubicon in 2008 with 36k miles. That is still on the road it has 182k miles. 4.0 liter and 5 speed manual transmission is the best option.
Isn't that wild how much you paid? But to be honest, I would pay that too. You have a quality vehicle and as long as the frame is good and it's not plagued with rust, engine and transmission (or in your case clutch) replacements are something you can do in your garage. What color is your rig?
I am going to Moab next year I khakis tan jeep. I also own a base 2011 Nissan frontier with 2.5 liter and manual transmission. Someone put a million miles on it. I saw the price was 8200 with 128k miles I purchased it in 2019. It has been reliable got 172k miles on it. Cost me 2 oil change a year and I replaced all 4 tires for 380 bucks. I use it to haul my dirt bikes.

This cultural issue goes way beyond Chrysler and even the U.S. auto industry. This dysfunctional dynamic exists in our institutions of higher learning and throughout our elected government extending to the various bureaucracies they feed.
A lot of truth in this statement. I believe in Ethical Capitalism. It is a real concept and it's how I execute with my businesses. Thanks for the comment my friend.
Really it's the MBA culture. Make numbers for the month or the quarter regardless of the damage it causes in the future. They'll figure out how to cut costs to make up for future losses when the time comes. Numbers, numbers, numbers. Examples are Jeep haphazardly releasing the Ecodiesel in 14' despite Detroit engineers telling Fiat that the VM Motori engine would not work well in the application (US fuel and emissions systems are different than EU). They pushed it out anyway to pull sales to VM Motori (also owned by Fiat) and to rush to market. They lost their butts on it between EPA lawsuits, extremely high warranty claims, class action suits resulting in high legal fees, a $3K+ rebate to all buyers and extended warranty coverage on emissions systems, which are unreliable to begin with. Their crappy EGR coolers, plastic oil coolers, plastic intakes and other cheap parts failed and led to engine fires (EGR coolers started intake fires) and recalls. I have a 2014 JGC Summit and it had the entire exhaust/catalyst system replaced under recall the first year ($8K retail cost), it had the front timing cover seal and front main seal fail under warranty ($1700 retail), the EGR cooler recall (unsure of cost) resulted in intake, valve covers, injector tubes and turbo hoses being changed under the recall as they were all melted due to EGR cooler failure (was close to burning). 4,000 miles later (at 64K), the engine seized up without warning on a 225 mile road trip. It also had the leather dashboard delaminate under warranty ($1700) and it's delaminated again (not fixing it). Factory warranty expired and extended warranty has spent $22K to date and I'm pending a $9K transmission replacement as mine is throwing codes and flare shifting (warranty is dragging feet hoping it'll last until October when it expires). Trade in value is around the price of the transmission. The new engine with 25K on it is using a quart of oil per 500 miles and has already had a timing cover leak repaired, I don't have much faith in it and will dump it before the warranty runs out. I paid $58K new for it and am pretty sure that much has been spent on it in repairs between FCA and my extended warranty. I like RAM, Jeep Chrysler/Dodge vehicles, but I would never buy one again unless maybe it came with a bumper to bumper 100K factory warranty and a free loaner car whenever it has to go in the shop. That isn't going to happen as they know their quality isn't good enough to manage it, so I'm looking at other brands. I have 5 months before the warranty runs out and I don't want to own it one day after!

My fellow americans are not really all that different from north korea ussr and nazi germany. Worse than Ussr car prices. Idiots who cant count the 2 genders nor properly count quarts of oil or votes.

The inline 6 was a great engine until the EPA told them to stop making them or get fined. They replaced it with convoluted mini van engines that you're taking a gamble with.
I've heard this and its probably true. Remember Cash for Clunkers...
I’ve owned a few Jeeps. I love to off road in the mountains and desert. I owned a Cherokee and a Wrangler in the 90’s. I agree, since the 90’s they’ve gone down hill in quality while getting way expensive. In 2018 I bought a 8 year old 4Runner SR5. Great vehicle. And it out off roads any Jeep I ever had. Way more reliable to. I still own it and have only change the brake pads. Oil change to oil change, no issues. We just bought a 2024 4Runner in the TRD Off Road Premium Trim. It was way cheaper than a comparable Jeep and 10x the vehicle. I’m sold on Toyota and will probably never go back. I think Chrysler Corp as a whole is headed the wrong way and is out of touch with Americans and what we want.
Preach brother, you are saying what I hear too often, and it shouldn't be this way. However, I am very glad to hear you have solid vehicles and are happy with Toyota. I am all about doing what is best. Thanks for the comment :-)
I had a 2015 2dr rubicon wrangler. I loved it being a manual for off-roading. But after a few years I was sick of the small size as I couldn't use it for much. Plus the payments. So I traded it in for a 2002 Toyota Tundra. It's my dream truck! Perfect size for everything I need. Paid off which is even better! And no extra bs maintenance needed as I can do almost all repairs myself. So far it's been totally awesome with only minor issues like the o2 sensors. It's at nearly 200K miles now without any major hiccups. Toyota really does have an edge. Plus I love the older ones cause they look cooler and are smaller thus more practical. I can actually use the bed vs my dad's 2023 Dodge Powerwagon. I can hardly put anything into that bed cause it's just way too huge. If only vehicles could be smaller and more practical. And cheaper. These days I can't hope to afford a new car at all. Plus I don't want to. Too many government nanny features and difficult to repair lol. I'll gladly stick to older, proven vehicles.
What people forget is that the engine and driveline in the jeep is leftover from Mercedes / Daimler Benz. They are the company that ran Chrysler in the ground stole their best technology and left a pile of ruin behind. To compare jeep to Mercedes is in effect comparing the same company mechanically. As a former claims adjuster for mechanical repairs I would never buy a Mercedes or bmw product. To much failure rate.
Jeep should be about cheap affordable ruggedness with potential upgrades down the road for outdoor adventure. Its not a luxery car brand and their sales prove that. That and every other luxery car brand being infinitely better. Currently driving a jeep WJ and i dread the day im gonna have to replace it because i wont be able to afford a newer jeep. Or just about any brand for that matter. The closest im gonna be able to get to what i want is a older toyota 4 runner and those arent cheap either
I am sorry to hear this, I understand it. It was a struggle for me to afford my JL when I purchased back in 18. I hope you are able to find something you enjoy and be happy with your purchase. Thanks my friend.
In common with many companies, the emphasis is on making money. The product suffers as a result. And as long as the government continues to bail them out when that bites them, there is no incentive to change.
You speak nothing but truth. My companies would never be bailed out and I wouldn't want that. If I run my companies in the ground, then its my fault.
@@A-BombEnergy It's all about quarterly profits not about the health of the company due to BS in the US legal system companies traded on the stock exchange have a legal duty to maximize profits for investors even if it means driving the company into the ground, even Toyota NA has this problem.
Bought my first Jeep, second hand of course and I do my own maintenance. Pray for me.
Hey thats great news! What did you end up getting? I have owned/own many Jeeps and even my 2018 JL isn't horrible to work on. It took time to learn some things with it though.
The maintenance side is an example of untrained employees that don't even bother to verify that they completed their work. As with the oil, all they'd have to do is pull the dip stick.
Totally agree. My understanding is that Technicians don't change the oil. Dealerships basically use untrained techs to do that type of work. My dad always taught me to ALWAYS check the oil after you changed it. Who knows...maybe it all didn't come out.
Untrained techs? We used to call them grease monkeys!
I HAD a 2017 Lexus GX - changed the oil at the dealership (because I didnt have the time to do it myself). I gave them AMSOIL and AMSOIL filter. The shitty tech put in house oil and their filter - and didn't tell me or own up to his mistake. I ran the car 10K miles. It burnt and gunked. I traded it in. I swore, never to have anyone touch my cars ever again.
The samelow quality scam job is taking place amongst the engineering and bean counter rooms
I needed a vehicle. My wife was pregnant and I was hit by a drunk driver. The closest dealer to me was Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler/Ram. I went there and drove off in a Jeep Cherokee Sport. Last y ear I sold it. It only had 35,000 miles on it. It was paid off. Why did I sell it? Because every week it had a check engine light come on, plastic pieces was falling off of it from the bottom, the interior, and the foam protection on the hood above the engine was disintegrated. We never missed a maintance, our driving habits was in town with maybe a cross state once or twice a year, and it sat in a garage.
Wow! I am sorry to hear that she got hit by someone so careless, especially while pregnant! I am a new father, so I understand that concept even more now. I am unfortunately not at all surprised by the workmanship of your cherokee...they only seem to put "quality" workmanship into the wranglers and gladiators...maybe the Wagoneer's but I have yet to get my hands on one for an extended period of time. I've used one as an evacuation platform for a casualty, but I was kinda busy in the back to take notice of the 130K vehicle that was getting bodily fluids everywhere on the inside haha. Have you replaced the vehicle with something else?
@@A-BombEnergy Yes, we ended up getting a Toyota. It even comes with 2 years of free maintenance (comes out to be 4 oil changes and 8 tire rotations) and a lifetime of free car washes. But, we saw reviews of some toyotas going 1million miles, 600k miles, 400k miles, and mechanic YT channels praising how Toyotas are over engineered. They are also pretty much making everyone of their vehicles available in hybrid. We are really happy with it so far.

I have a '96 xj, and I've had it for about 3 years. I bought it for just under $4k, and spent another $6k within a year fixing it up, getting new tires, etc. This is my first vehicle and I've spent a lot of money on it, but 20k miles later, and very little going wrong with it, i've come to really like it. I never did crazy offroading with it, but took it on gravel mountain roads several times a month. Super reliable and fun to drive, that I don't want to get rid of it. I have driven a '94 5.2 v8 grand cherokee, and that thing is fun to drive, but also really quiet as well. The current market of cars in general, especially jeeps, is just insane. My next vehicle that I would like is a grand cherokee zj, an early 00's lexus rx300/gx470, or if I had to get a newer vehicle (mid-late 2010's), it'd only be a 4runner. I will always have a soft spot for older jeeps, but not the newer ones. This was a good video. Less than 100 subs was surprising to see, out of a solid video like this one.
Its crazy to think that these 90's and early 2000's Jeeps are still rolling strong on the roads. Very few cars can say they have this reputation, and you are living proof of what can be achieved. I believe Jeep is living off of people like you, or I guess living off a reputation they are openly desecrating. Lexus rx300 would be a sick ride or the 4Runner. I was pricing those out recently and couldn't believe how much they run for, even being 20 years old and having over 200,000 miles. But that is what quality work gets you. Thanks for the compliment. I am new to KZhead, so I expect to have no subs for a while but it's okay. I will keep grinding and making quality content for you guys. Running 2 businesses and being active duty is rough, but I love the challenge. Thanks again for the sub.

As someone who considers myself a Jeep enthusiast, mostly for the older models, I'm hoping this is the wake up call Jeep needs if it is to ever preserve its reputation. I think you were spot on about Jeep's "heyday", it seems to correllate with the use of AMC components, I absolutely love the I6 engines. These were very capable and fun vehicles that you could easily work on in your driveway, and they have a certain unique feel to them, hence their old marketing phrase "there's a feeling you can get, only in a Jeep!" The company had a philosophy of creating simple, reliable, rugged off roaders that were wasy to work on and modify. Then in the mid 2000s or so, they started putting out a lot more low quality crossovers like the Patriot and Compass, cutting corners, and using engines of questionable quality and reliability. They watered down the Wrangler a lot with the JK, turning the Wrangler from an old, utilitarian off roader to more of a modern SUV. It still could go off road, but a lot of that magic the older models had was lost. It felt like a 2000s Chrysler product, and that's not a good thing. You still see old XJs, YJs, TJs, ZJs, etc both on and off road all the time, but I have such a hard time seeing these new models having anywhere near that longevity. They're so expensive that nobody is going to want to take them off road in the first place. I get that most current Wrangler buyers tend to be older women who prefer more of a family vehicle with a cute appearance, but expecting them to pay BMW prices for a Fiat Chrysler is completely absurd.
This is one of my favorite comments thus far! You nailed everything in this. I barely take my JL offroad simply based on how expensive it is and I have maintained it beyond what is normal. I don't want to ruin her just yet. I do take her to the beach and off road a few times a year but that is light duty (unless I am pulling someone out who got stuck!) There is a special feeling I do get when I drive my TJ, doors on and off. She is a special lady who works hard for me. I can't get rid of her. People have offered to buy my TJ and XJ I don't know how many times because they want that cheap jeep to off road in. Funny enough, many of them are JL owners! Thank you for the comment, you are spot on.
@A-BombEnergy of course, it's nice to see a channel covering Jeep that's run by an actual fan of the company, it offers a better perspective than someone who doesn't really have much interest in them. Good video!

Congrats on the Jeep! I hope you like it. My only rebuke to that purchase, is that is expensive in comparison to what they used to be only a few years ago. Jeep was supposed to be the factory base model out the door price for around 25k. I just can't accept such high prices. But that is relative and dependent upon how someone values money? Hey thanks brother! Got more coming soon, topic will be Ford
My Dad and Brother both had Jeeps and they both sold them after 2 years of owning them. I've been in Love with the Two Door Jeep Willy's. So many people are telling me NOT TO BUY a Jeep. It's Heart Breaking thinking my Dream Vehicle is a POS. And Sad Jeep discontinued the Purple color in 2023. 💜 Bring it back PLEASE
They can be solid vehicles if you maintain them and understand things will break more than other cars, like a Toyota. Don't give up on it yet. I would suggest buying slightly used and NEVER buy new. Do what you can not to support the "company" and support the community. You could always wrap your Jeep purple ;) Thanks for the comment my dear.
I've owned and driven Jeeps for over 30 years, but the last Jeep that I bought was a 2005 model and I will likely never buy another. My 2005 Jeep is still running well, but it has an electronic control module that Jeep discontinued manufacturing or stocking almost a decade ago. The are no new modules to be found anywhere now and used ones can not be rebuilt. If that module fails, the Jeep is unusable and will go to the scrapyard, even though the rest of the vehicle is perfectly serviceable. The used car market now values the vehicle at little more than scrap value. Meanwhile, many Ford or GM vehicles that have been out of production for decades longer still have necessary critical repair parts available. And CDJR wonders why fewer and fewer people have any loyalty to its products . . .
Wow, what an incredible comment. I didn't know about this problem with the 2005 models. I'll add that to my tool kit of knowledge. Jeep is way to quarterly profit driven and satisfying the board...when they should be trying to satisfy the customer. Have you checked to see if there are any aftermarket companies that make it? Like doorman or something?
German vehicles should only be leased. I own 2 jeeps presently and found 6 quarts put into my jeep on the first service oil change. I do both of my JL’s myself. Won’t let the dealer touch them when it comes to service. I installed both jeeps with catch cans and it’s amazing how much oil is caught in just a few drives. Also installed the Baxter replacement filter setup to keep oil in the top of the motor to almost stop the cranky dry startups. Amazing I have to do this to a 2018 and 2022 product. Edit: Oh and don’t get me started on the rust I had to clear and repaint on the wheel mounting surfaces of both jeeps on all 4 corners of both vehicles. I live in the SW desert in Utah lol. I couldn’t imagine having these back east. Sheesh it would be a mess.
You aren't wrong about German cars, I am taking a pretty big risk. My only hope is that since Toyota was involved with the manufacturing of the B58 motor we will see some reliability improvements. As for the Jeeps rusting, I am still shocked by how many people I hear having this issue. I had this issue with mine but on the frame. I had to ended up sanding all the welds and coating them with Eastwood's underbody frame spray. So far after 6 years its held up and that is with a decent amount of off-roading and trips to OBX where we drive on the beach. Thanks for commenting and sharing your experience.

As one who has weathered all the massive upheavals and declines of the Chrysler Corp. during the last half century of near exclusive ownership of that brands vehicles I find your video to be highly accurate of it's history and future outlook. While I have had extremely good fortune with my vehicles in spite of subjecting them to rugged off road use and excessive trailer towing I've also heard horror stories from other owners. Given my advanced years and lack of confidence in the new generation of the current offerings (not to mention the cost!) I have no intention of replacing my current '08 Ram or '05 Jeep TJ. Yours is a very good video production and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
Sir, thank you for the kind words, it means a lot to me. I am very glad to hear that you have good luck with your vehicles but its also probably because you are a good owner and maintain them. Something I should have hit on more is that there are good owners, like you, and bad owners...and sometimes the bad owners make the loudest noise. I will be making more videos like this; I hope to see you in the comments on the new videos. Lastly, because you are more experienced, what would you suggest Jeep do to fix the issues?
@@A-BombEnergy I think that you hit on the most salient points regarding the faults at Jeep. Unfortunately, their issues are not unlike those faced by the other domestic manufacturers, they're merely under our microscope because Jeep is a favored brand and we have the false hopes that they'll succeed where others have failed. But as to the issues; you rightfully point out ongoing quality & dealer problems - this has been a persistent situation throughout the history of Chrysler Corp. for the last 50 years. They built their reputation on advanced engineering (though not always well executed - hence the quality issues) but have long been hobbled by poor customer/dealer relations. The latter not only produced a poor customer buying experience but was often reinforced by poor service after the sale. Jeep (and FCA in general) is in need of major damage control to restore buyer confidence as little brand loyalty remains among the formerly faithful. And these efforts need to be more than just a skin-deep and hollow PR campaign but instead extend down to address the root of the problem(s). Will this occur under current Stellantis leadership?
Love how during a time when people don’t want a gas guzzling suv they decide to make their vehicles overpriced and unreliable

I was considering a Grand Cherokee after having one as a rental a few years back. This GC was a V-6 version but had decent power, was decently roomy, and enjoyable to drive. As always, I asked our family mechanic what his opinion was on the GC. "When the warranty is over, you'll see me more than you see your wife."
Yeah they have that lure for sure. My ex had a brand new explorer and then rented a GC and almost traded it. I’m not a Ford guy but I’d take that over the GC I think.

They told me they were going to diagnose the car the next day. I asked for a loaner ental car. They told me they can't authorize a rental until it's diagnosed. I had to take an Uber home.
I am terribly sorry to hear that Jeep did that to you. I have had this happen to me many times by the dealership, even after showing them the Jeep Wave benefits and they always seem to have an excuse. When I was in upstate New York, during the worst snowstorm of the year, I couldn't use my Jeep. I BEGGED essentially for a loaner car (I was on a tight budget) and they gave me a Challenger... I hope your car runs smooth after they fix it. Did they ever get back to you?
My dealer used to give loaners but then stopped. They do at lease offer courtesy car rides home or they'll pay for an Uber if they don't have a driver available. Not ideal but still better than nothing.

@@A-BombEnergy yes I did my first oil change at 1000 to get rid of wear particles from brand new engine breaking in. Some car manuals don't list this in their manuals anymore, but some people and KZheadrs like the Oil Geek and other recommend this. ( can't remember but I DO RECALL that the first interval was a lot shorter.) I also remember reading in my dad's car manual in the 90s as a youngster and it stated to change AT 500 miles then normal after that. I really wanted to oil change my Jeep at 500 but couldn't get around to it 😇 Thank you for the positive wishes 😎 bro. To and yours as well ✌️
I bought a new 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ SE with the 2.5L 4 cyl and used it as a daily driver for 9 years. No problems in the 9 years I owned it. I’m pretty sure it cost around $16k.
Oh yeah, depending on the condition, it will fetch a big price tag. My 98 TJ with 220,000 miles manual transmission would easily fair 10k.
I still have my new '00 TJ SE I bought in October of 1999 👍
The Classic look of the Jeep Wrangler will always live on...even if another brand eventually owns the rights...they will always be in demand and someone will produce them.
This is true. Hopefully, if they ever go out, a better company takes over and does what needs to be done.
@A-BombEnergy know anything about GC WK2? In EU we only have the EcoDiesel but I hear they blow up, any year thats good? thanks
I haven't heard of this, but I know anything Eco Diesel coming from FCA or Stellantis is a gamble. What country are you in?
@@A-BombEnergy Im in Germany. Same VM engine is in your Ram 1500. Its well documented camshaft and EGR cooler failure. Engine can destroy itself at any mileage. Fiat engines are ok, the VM are always an issue, 2.8d Wranglers with VM had problems too.
@@keponen331 Nice, I loved living in Germany, I miss it. Lets hope none of these problems pop up.
Jeep was an affordable fun vehicle you could wash out with a garden hose after you got back from the beach. Those days are gone.
I’ve got my 2006 Wrangler Unlimited that I will keep until it blows up. Then I will rebuild it and drive it some more. I won’t touch one of these new fiats with a twenty foot pole. Especially for $60K - $80K.
You got the last good year Wrangler...that's awesome, don't ever sell her.
@@A-BombEnergy I knew I wanted the 4.0 and the long wheelbase, but I DID NOT want 4 doors. That left only 04-06. I got lucky.
I do my own oil changes and tire rotation. The Jeep Penstar motor is one of the easiest motors to do an oil change on. There's no need to go to the dealership for any services.
Agreed. Just changed my oil a few days ago and it was so simple. I let mine drain for about 30 minutes though. Sooo much more comes out. I’ll do a video next oil change to show it.
Had 2 97 XJs. They were amazing. Sad to see greed has taken over the brand. My straight 6 was a tank and man could those things offroad! Literally welded on a steel I-beam as my bumper lol
That’s awesome! There are still a few around if you can manage to find a decent deal. Bro, even the older XJs are selling for pretty high prices but that makes sense as opposed to what’s out now 😂
How about, instead of a museum, Jeep builds a quality product and stands behind it? There was a time one could buy a lifetime powertrain warranty on Ram trucks. Maybe try that.
Hmmmm the museum isn't the only thing I stated. But yes, you are correct, they need to do what you said. Thanks for the comment, it really helps the video get more reach, I appreciate you helping with that.
@@A-BombEnergy Always healthy for debate. The brands with museums you mentioned are all elite brands. Porsche, Mercedes…even the Corvette museum. Jeep used to be for the average person. The average consumer wants a quality product and will never spend precious little disposable income to visit a museum unless a couple hours away. Jeep could instead focus on investing support and sponsorship of the many Jeep clubs and events around the country, show owners they care. P.S. wife and I are Jeep owners. We have 176k miles on our 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7L. Wife was looking at new JGC’s. When she saw the sticker, she said nope, no way. Not paying $65-70k for a JGC. Not ever. And she’s an attorney who makes good money!
No they are not going to change. Stellantis stated specifically they are looking to become a mobility/tech company. They want to sell less units for outrageous prices, which is what most of the car companies are doing right now. Jeep will never be what it once was.
Can we have hope? Please...
"Jeep will never be what it once was." America will never be what it once was.
Sad but true. I bought my 2010 wrangler used and it doesn't even resemble the vehicle I bought because I have washed all the Chrysler out of it and built what I really want. I tell people interested in Jeeps and the Jeep community to NOT buy a new one and only buy any Jeep if you are mechanically inclined and can do the work yourself. I will never give a dime to Chrysler/Stellantis or whoever they are now but I will continue to love my Jeep and the community that comes with it. And when this one dies, I'll buy even older.
You and I are very much alike and give the same advice. Glad to hear others are saying the truth on this matter. I simply can't support them how I want to.
My 2016 JK has been great so far. Easy to work on as far as modern vehicles go. Also helps that’s it’s the base model with only a few mods done to it
Nice man! My only problem with the JK was simply the price. It is close to being one of their best models yet. I do love my JL though. But like you, I got the base model and have done VERY little mods. I am not really into the mods, I find a decent set of tires will get you out of most situations.
This was crazy good. Please do a deep dive on bmw, issues, and now... the b58...
Thank you for the kind words, I worked hard on this for you guys. There are a lot of manufacturers that are going to get their own episode.
I LOVED... LOVED... my 2017 2-dr manual hardtop JL Willy's Wheeler Wrangler. So so so much. When the reverse synchro lockout failed and grenaded the NSG370 at 5.000 miles, I thought for sure it'd be fixed and fine. After waiting over 120 days with it parked outside the service bay, literally getting cobwebs on it while it waited for parts that never came, I got a lemon law refund for it and walked away. The treatment I got from the dealership, the process, and FCA itself was reprehensible in every possible way. I dream about owning another one of these perhaps one day, but I would never give Chrysler or their dealer network another penny, and I can't speak ill enough of them. This is how you lose your customers.
I’m really sorry to hear that you got done wrong. That’s just bad all around and could probably be short novel based on what you’ve said and what I assume you had to go through. I too will never give the parent company or dealer networks a dime. What did you replace it with?
not a jeep person myself, i prefer me and old subie loyale/leone. but for people who do like jeep, this is purely outrageous. people can't enjoy a new product from the manufacturer of their favourite cars because "hur durr me profits" insanity
I respect what Subaru has done and built. Not mine kind of company but mad respect to them. I get companies need to make a profit and I’m all for it but when you put profit first, that’s when a company starts to decline. Owning a company (like myself) you have to put solving a problem and the money will follow.
Great video. Wanted a Jeep all my life, but was born a generation late and am a couple zeroes short on my paycheck. Maybe used car prices will drop to reasonable levels one day.
Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate it, I worked hard on this for you guys. Maybe look into the salvage line of cars and find one that’s not that badly wrecked? You wouldn’t believe what insurance companies total stuff for
@@A-BombEnergy I have considered getting one that requires repair. But at the moment I rent an apartment and have nowhere to stage the vehicle to work on it. Only thing worse than used car prices in LA is the housing market LOL.
I own a 2000 4.0 TJ Wrangler with a 5 speed. Bought it new in 2000 and drive it every day. I’m so glad I never got rid it it. Good quality and I can fix most everything myself
Dude that’s so awesome! You have a rare vehicle.
Bought a 2020 Gladiator in Dec 2019. Have 55k miles on it if happy trouble free miles. It’s a perfect car for my deep north Mn location. I hear many negative comments about Jeep and its dealers but again, my experience doesn’t reflect that. I’d definitely buy another. The pricing has gotten out of hand - but I see significant discounts being offered to counter slow sales. An informed buyer is a good customer
Thats great to hear! I am always so happy to hear when guys are getting higher miles and no issues. I would inspect your cooling pipes that run behind the engine, I had one get a small hole and leaked EVERYWHERE and made my jeep overheat. My brake booster line attachment came lose and rubbed a hole into the cooling pipe. I'll make a video soon on these kinds of things. Ironically, a Gladiator owner pulled over and helped me find it.
I owned a 95 wrangler, 2002 wrangler, currently own a 2005 wrangler and a 2018 wrangler. I will say that we haven’t had too many issues with the new one other than the paint. The frame was starting to surface rust pretty good. I had to sand it and repaint a lot of it to stop it from rusting. But now I see the paint bubbling around all the door hinges. Also the engine oil pan rusted out and I had to replace that. We also have the soft top and if you open the doors water runs off the roof directly into the floor boards of the jeep. The infotainment system is buggy and doesn’t work some times. Even with all its problems I still do love that thing and enjoy driving it. I think its handling was a huge improvement from the jk model and it definitely feels more premium inside than the older models. That said the tj is still my favorite jeep ever made
Dude I completely agree with your assessment over the JK. I had a JK and couldn’t stand the interior and lack of quality. Only thing is I think the JL drives worse than the JK. My steering feels so dang numb. Also, do you have any photos of your issues? I would love to see them and put them in a video. Thanks for commenting my friend.
Nice vid 🔥👌🏾
Thank you sir 😁
even after the YJ the writing was on the wall. the TJ was a great jeep and I own one right now as seen in my profile picture, but I cant stand the idea of a computer no matter how simple or complex controlling crucial engine and drivetrain systems. im about to buy a '72 CJ5 with a chevy 350 swapped into it that I found recently and fell in love with
Dude, I hope you get that CJ. When you do, report back here and tell us how it is...or shoot me a DM on IG. I love the CJ's, I just cant seem to find one that has a decent body/frame. Good luck friend!
@@A-BombEnergy Thanks man! Its got a muncie m20 transmission out of an old corvette, a dana 20 transfer case, and the cosmetics of it arent too modified, its got some nice alloy wheels and the standard flat steel bumpers which I like. and the best part is, its bright orange!
