The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of books known for their talking fauna, religious overtones, and sickly sweets offered up by the White Witch, Jadis. Turkish Delight may be a delight for some accustomed palates, but can be fancifully altered with a number of different flavor concentrates. Whip up a batch to coerce and manipulate the black sheep of your choosing today.

  • Turkish delight actually has an interesting story to tell. The reason why it became an extravaganza in britain was because turkish delight could not be made by foreigners. No one knew the recipe and the techniques really well and those handmade delights did not taste as good as the turkish ones so you had to import turkish delights from Turkey. As a matter of fact, it cost so much to buy real turkish delight that only wealthy people could afford it. Eventually it became a symbol of statue and wealth. Now real turkish delight would taste sweeter than Babish's and would definitely not include as much starch. If you press a turkish delight you can see that it is very squishy and barely holds its shape. I'm turkish and we never make lokum at home, we just buy it from a candyhouse and every candyhouse's lokum tastes slightly different.

She made them with different colors and flavors, I have good memories of being at her home and taking one or two off of her nice china plates to take away into the train room. The train room had a model city that went all along the edges of the room, connected my train tracks. The city was always decorated for the holidays and seasons and during winter, an old radio played Christmas tunes while soft white twinkling lights lit up the town and carried the train through the night. Thank you for making this video and restoring a piece of my childhood :)

It's kinda pretty and the texture is interesting, but it's not as sweet as most modern candy, and it can be hard to find a good natural-tasting flavor extract besides maybe vanilla. If you want something that tastes amazing, try making caramel. It's a similar process, but with a much richer flavor.

  • To be honest, even I, being turkish myself, really hate the rose flavored ones too. I might go for one, single (that's 1, one, O-N-E) piece, IF it has a pistachio and a not terrible flavor. I'm much fonder of baklava, helva or künefe (especially when made by my grandma. But we all know grandmas have cheat skills when it comes to cooking and baking).

    • MrGekigami - the desserts I ate during my two-week tour of Turkey were heavenly! What is the name of the one that looks almost like a square bird's nest with pistachios, all smothered in honey? Despite all the healthy meals I had (never had better veggie dishes in my life!), the desserts made my clothes a wee bit tighter as the trip wore on 😀

    • adevbrs - not exactly, I love baklava and have made it twice so far. Maybe I didn't describe it well... it has stiff 'threads' on top and around it, sort of like Shredded Wheat having a bad hair day. EDIT TO ADD: I found it searching youtube. It's called Kadayif and it seems to have walnuts instead of pistachios. Maybe the nuts used are a matter of preference. The recipe has many ingredients but I think I'll attempt it very soon.
