On the night of 19 December 1981 a very sad disaster happened off the South Coast of Cornwall
The Penlee Lifeboat the Solomon Browne was tasked to the distress call of the Irish Coaster the Union Star but sadly after a valiant rescue attempt all 16 crew members of the Solomon Browne and the Union Star were sadly lost.
This video pays tribute to their heroic acts on that awful night by running the coast path from the Penlee point lifeboat house to the Memorial, passing through Mousehole and Lamorna along the dramatic south west coast path before reaching the memorial at Boscawen point. The Shipping Forecast (from the day of the run) is also featured.

Thanks for this, my wife's family originate from Mousehole and we have tried to find the exact spot where everything happened - now we know where to pay our respects when we next visit. Can you get down to the beach or is it impassable?
