Thank you for posting this excellent product review. The testing is really thoroughly done and I agree with all your conclusions about this device.
Your videos bring me so much comfort 💖💖 And you're always so pretty
thanks for your in-depth review!
My pleasure!
Interesting, I need this just for archive purposes. Thank you!
Man I hate the bot comments on youtube videos now days. Thanks for the content anyway 🙂
Thank you! And one more bot muted! Tbh it's not as bad anymore as it used to be.
@Techtesters Excellent video, does the low read/write speed mean that I cannot watch movies directly from this external SSD?
Finally, an affordable (we hope) high capacity drive!! Took them long enough. That said, I bought a Cooler Master Oracle enclosure to quickly transfer data between multiple locations. But now that's done, it's just sitting there without a purpose. Any recommendations on m.2 drives that would pair nicely with it, to use as another external SSD?
I’ve been looking to back up all my files to keep in a lockbox at the bank that I update each year. All my family photos, documents, and person work files are mostly digital. I’ve been eyeing the 8tb Samsung 870 Sata so I’m curious how this compares in price. Thank you for you coverage of SSDs and storage in general.
I would love to see some more affordable options for internal 8TB m.2 drives. I just want some faster storage options, that don't need to be extremely fast, to make them a bit more affordable than the current price point of $1,000.
I'm still using Samsung sata 8tb drives for that reason. Affordable 8tb nvme drives will mark a good day
@@kenwilliams3279 I have both 2.5 sata and u.2 8tb drives, but unfortunately it is an option for PCs only, not for laptops. Very few modern laptops allow sata 2.5" drives, not to mention that Samsung QVO is very slow even for sata SSDs, nvme should be a lot faster
Thanks! 🤩
The humidity specified as “non-condensing” brings me a chuckle as ambient temp will affect whether condensation occurs at a given humidity. Quite the notable qualifier.
Would you be inetrested in benchmarking microsd cards like the upcoming 1.5tb model for like steamdeck use ?
Could you please review the Seagate firecuda 540 2tb one thanks!
love your videos ❤
Happy to hear that!
Hi Nada. I noticed from your charts there are THUNDERBOLT SSDs available. My knowledge of this type of PC port is NIL. Please tell me the difference between USB and THUNDERBOLT ports. My MB supports both, but I need to know what devices connect to the THUNDERBOLT port.
Have you done a review on the wd_black sn850p?
Have 2 old T5s with 1Tb. Fast and rock solid.
Superb presentation. This SSD's appeal to me is it's capacity, the main downside for me is the speed. Given it's hefty pricetag, I'll probably wait and see if a faster 8TB comes along. That's the plan, but I am an impulse buyer so....🤔
Hey fellow Johnny, can I do something for you for one too? I really need a external drive to backup real soon!
the only channel I comment and like for the algorithm
am i bettor off going with an external SSD enclosure and getting something like an WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe or a SABRENT Rocket Gen4?
SSD enclosure are better right?
Thank you.
Hi I’m looking for an 8tb external ssd specifically to play ps4 games on ps5 is this the best option for that?
Would you say this is also a good solution for phone file transfers? With phones being able to record in high resolution these days
This is a great informative video thanks. How does the Samsung T9 Compare to The Samsung T5 Evo? I’m having trouble deciding between the two? Thanks in advance 🎉
T9 is much better generally. I have a roundup coming soon!
What is TBW for the T5 EVO 8 TB?
Spec wise for me it's fantastic. Wish I could afford 4-5 of them or even one. No idea what the price will be, but I am guessing more than 0.60 cents that I currently have lol. But yes, it does look like a potentially a great drive not just for the specs, but perhaps hopefully to start a bigger push for larger capacity SSDs to finally replace (cost wise) larger hard drives.
Are there any tlc based 8tb external ssds
Samsung doesnt give TBW warranty for their portable ssd's?
1:30 Lucky hardware caressed by gentle and lovely tech goddess :D
Is 8tb portable ssd can save files memories for lifetime?
Not a very technical review. Interested in knowing TBW, type of nand, how long it can maintain its stated write speed, cache memory if any, etc. Not at all a bad overview, but I notice the makers do not offer much information about these drives on their product pages which makes me very hesitant to buy one. The overall quality of the basic review though was phenomenal and I liked it for that. Please do not hate me for being honest here, but I transfer 4TB per day (use the drive to move large projects back and forth via sneaker net) and really interested to know how long this will last in TBW?
I was expecting some mention of the fact that this is QLC drive...
This might just be the right upgrade for my 500GB T1 drive that starting to behave iffy with the USB connector on it and running out of space to store my old footage on.
SSDs need firmware updates too? WHY?!
I think I'm gonna stick with my T7 2tb, but still this one's decent I guess! Thanks!❤️ Appreciate your SSD Reviews!
Thank you! :D
Did anyone try to disassemble it? I wonder if there is an nvme drive with adapter that could be used in PCs and especially - laptops? 😎
I was surprised Samsung is reviving the T5 series with the T5 EVO. I thought the T5 series was permanently discontinued since I could not find other T5 SSDs in the Samsung official online store.
It seems like you'd be better getting an 8tb Samsung 850 QVO drive and putting it into an enclosure for half the price (about $340 atm on Amazon), though a little more chunky
I'm more capacity hungry than I am for performance, although that use of only USB 3.2 is disappointing. Seems to be the only 8TB small portable powered SSD on the market but will get this.
But don't have atleast protection for ip rating
I've been looking for external storage for a while and the biggest struggle is credibility. Samsung or Scamsung? It's really hard to tell the difference these days.
I had the rubberised finish - it's a lint collector and a deal-breaker.
I dont think the slick and tiny design and double capacity can compensate that in some cases its FIVE TIMES SLOWER ( 5:52) then even the Sandisk Extreme Pro 4TB. 320dollars for Sandisk (4TB), 560 for Samsung (8TB) as of end of february...
Samsung will have to seriously push their prices to make it a compelling buy, if 4TB Samsung 990 Pro gives 7GB/s r/w, they gotta make this T5 Evo cost no more than 1/10 of the price/capacity, something like 40€ for 4TB T5 Evo doesn't sound likely at all though
1:30 Nail polish fingers make the drive feel like a nicer product somehow.
Its read n write speed 480/s sounds slow i think 🤔 other options have 1024/s now any one ☝🏽 notice this ?😊
When filling the whole drive the speed drops after writing 5,9TB to a dawdling 33MB/s. A plain old harddisk would be at least 4 times faster.
In what test please?🤔 I saw @ Anandtech 5,25TB with 430-440 MB/s (took ~3,5h.)and after that ~60 MB/s, so it took 9h. to fill 90% of the 8TB T5 Evo.
she is so beautiful
Old USB 3.1 with 460MB/s in 2023??? Samsung, are you crazy?
I guess t5 evo plus will come with usb 3.2 gen 2 speeds. Still, this drive is miles ahead when compared to external HDDs.
Is it TLC or QLC? Maybe I missed it - and nothing on Samsung's page.
QLC
What is the difference?
@@raymondicalia5710 QLC will be less durable and usually slower on larger transfers. They had to give larger cache to sustain that speed.
@@WojciechKobus thank you for the reply. I appreciate the information.
Samsung has these drives listed on their site USD: 8tb $650, 4tb $350, 2tb $190.
I rather buy the 2tb T7 Shield for $99
We want 8tb version with water and dust protection
MSI GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING X SLIM 24G🙏😘 Review
Samsung make it at least fair price but still ip rating is good to see, maybe they can make t7 shield 8tb version with at least a little price hike.
And you said that is an external SSD right?
Rubberized coating so often turn into an oily sticky mess, a bad idea.
👍👍❤️❤️❤️
😊
8TB is cost around $650USD
Price for large external storage is so hard to stomach compared to mechanical, or just a nas. Still on the road to normalization
But SSD are more resilient. Mechanical HHD are nightmarish.

Big Capacity - Yes Please Small Performance - YES PLEASE Huge price tag - oh nvm I was hoping by now there would be some kind of ultra budget large capacity SSD to compete directly with HDDs - as bulk storage for less important data Even like 200MB/s would keep me happy at the right price, as it's basically what a HDD does but would have far better random I/O and be far less physically fragile But alas, per TB this is still around triple the price of budget SSDs, which are themselves between triple and quadruple the price of 3.5" HDDs
There on sale on Amazon today! I got one 4tb for $200
The 870 QVO 8TB is priced at approximately $380, whereas the T5 EVO 8TB seems to be too expensive.
Additionally, the specifications of T5 EVO suggest that it has lower performance capabilities compared to 870QVO.
You’ll lose some performance running it over USB but I would go the qvo+enclosure route unless the t5 evo was closer to 400USD
8TB Screems USB 4.0

@@TechTesters Appreciate the feedback, Neither one was used here.
If Sabrent couldn't normalize 8tb SSD's don't kno if Samsung can.
If it was a 10 Gbps drive with about 1000MBps then it would be really interesting but this is just an 2.5Inch SSD enclosure well a bit smaller but like nothing new or special in my opinion. Idk this is a sad product it could’ve bene amazing at a Nice price and speed for 8TB 😌
I would rather buy two cheap NVME SSD’s or even two 990Pro 4TB because they are verry cheap at the moment just bought one today for €249 and put them in a 40Gbps USB 4 enclosure or even a 10Gbps enclosure. Idk maybe just me but to me this speed isn’t acceptable anymore in 2023.
i can buy 2 top notch m.2 4 tb ssds and 2 usb4 enclosures for cheaper bruh
with the decreased price of t7 and t7 shield , there is just no reason to buy this one. Actually in China the t7 shield is even cheaper with same 2tb space. so why buy this ....
Once it gets (much) cheaper, eventually :)
😅that's true....@@TechTesters
So many bots 🤦🏽♂️
My GF sent me this video, I don't know why :/
she wants you to store more girls.
$700 affordable?????????
Their words, not mine. It will need to drop in price if it's 700$ IMHO.
$650 for a 5gbps drive is unacceptable especially for ssd. Lol don't even know what's the point.
Can someone explain to me the reason to have a high capacity storage drive so portable??? Why doesn't someone make an 8,10,or 20 tb ssd the size of a WD one book? (maybe 4"x8"x6" box). A high capacity external SSD would not have to be fast or portable if you just want to store thousands of files long term.
A high capacity drive should be at least decently fast - you don't want to take 2 days off to transfer the data. Also, if your main drive has problems, you want to get the data transferred as fast as possible. Very small is not really necessary but of course nobody will make the drive bigger just to be bigger. People these days don't even have laptops, some just tablets or just phones - a small SSD means easier use when you're using other small devices. For desktop users of course it doesn't matter if they don't travel with it. But the main thing that's just unclear even after all those years is how secure is having data store on offline SSDs since they loose the capacity to store data after months/years depending on the temperature.
I love you
