My theory: The ancient Kong mastered the art of shoving a tree down Godzilla's throat. It's always been super effective battle technique for the Kong species
I always headcanon that Godzilla’s loss against the ancient Kong mirrored his victory against the modern one, but with the roles reversed: The young and inexperienced kaiju bit off more than he could handle when tangling with the older and battle-hardened rival. The ancient Kong had his foot on Godzilla’s chest, pinning him. And the rival roared, a blatant attempt to force the other to submit. And the younger Godzilla, wounded and afraid, did. He stayed silent and slinked off, tail between his legs. His anger grew at the hit his ego took, and he made sure he would never be humbled again. And that’s why he gave Kong the nod after he roared back: Unlike Godzilla, Kong refused to submit when faced with certain death and remained king.

Considering the actual war against the Kongs actually happened *after* Godzilla lost his home, and Godzilla still went on to fight in said war, it's safe to say that he stockpiled strength quite quickly.
So a younger less experienced godzilla challenged a seasoned kong and lost, only for the reverse to happen in godzilla vs kong thousands of years later.

Actually it was when Godzilla tried to use his distance advantage, he was taken down by Kong. I bet the fight Godzilla had with the ancient rival was where he learned how to combat them up close. That's when Godzilla outclassed Kong is when the fighting got close.

Radioactive atomic spitting giant lizard vs monke. It is more of a Kong movie though. They made Kong to be more sympathetic to the audience. The whole movie we're practically following him. Godzilla beat Kong, Mechagodzilla beat Godzilla, Kong saved Godzilla and got the kill, with a little help from Godzilla. They handled it like professional wrestling if you follow that. They had to save face for both Godzilla and Kong. Kong was the hero, and he lost one match. The second match he had the upper hand at the beginning, but ended up losing the in the end. Even then he showed he didnt give up. The final match Godzilla gets his ass handed to him, but Kong comes down the ramp to save the day. It's like a match say Stone Cold(Godzilla) and the Rock(Kong), stone cold is going to win because he is THE guy. After the match Brock Lesnar comes out and starts whooping Stone cold. The Rock comes and saves face by saving Stone Colds ass. They each have to lose somewhere, and they each have to win somewhere.

So he got some good Radioactivity to eat. Where Kong was being lazy and chilling in a enclosure. Not by his choice.
I can only theorize that Godzilla may have lost due to being unprepared for this Kong’s fighting prowess. He underestimated it’s strength, ended up being outmatched and got driven away.
I must agree with most everyone else Godzilla was much younger at that time and clearly not at full power. One indicator for this is the fact it is shown that in ancient times there was a flourishing settlement there and now in modern times it has all been swept out to sea or sunken. That indicates a very long time has passed since Godzilla lost to this ape.
According to the Godzilla vs Kong novelization, it is stated that this specific Godzilla is the Titan that killed the majority of Kong’s species and drove them out of the Hollow Earth into skull island. It also brings up the idea that other Godzillas couldn’t use the atomic breath, since it says that this Godzilla “ate a star” and that’s when the Kongs started losing the war.

He was younger and weaker at the time he lost to that Kong, Greg Keyes also hinted it may have taken more than one Kong to drive the younger and weaker Godzilla out. Plus this took place before the GVK ancient war (which Godzilla himself participated in). In Dominion, even in his starving and weakened state, Godzilla was actually confident that he would’ve beaten that Kong.

I'd throw a nod to the first fight between King Kong and Godzilla. I'd say this Kong possessed an ability the Kong of today hasn't yet learned to use. He has the power of electricity. A very powerful electric force that he can wield as a weapon or in defense. Much like electric eels that have stacks of electrocytes in their body to shock their prey so to do the Kong's. All through their bodies and can generate an immense amount of power as well as store energy from lighting strikes or other sources of electricity.
I think this kong fought in the ancient War with the Godzilla species or he could have been the alpha kong in the hollow earth temple he is probably the same one who build the axe and killed a gojira species all on his own making him an experience fighter

I feel like there may have been a little armour involved for the rival unless he had a weapon to block the atomic breath. I see no reason why he's able to survive that. There is just simply no reason unless he had a weapon to block it but whenever told explicitly that he had a weapon the worst or not told he didn't have a weapon. So it really depends on that to me

But besides that the inexperience does indeed mirror the original fight. Godzilla was really inexperienced when fighting the ancient kong. Kong was really inexperienced when fighting Godzilla in GvK. Plus Godzilla is like tens of millions of years old compared to kongs under 200 years of age.

Kong simply wasn't experienced or trained enough to potentially beat Godzilla. If Kong's kind were alive on Skull Island he would be better trained and would know more of the history of his species. I'm more of a Godzilla fan than Kong, I was team Godzilla all the way, but I respect Kong for holding his own at such a disadvantage.
It sucks Big G will never get real closure though Kong had to do when it came to settling a score. But with his true rival dead before he could get to it, in my opinion Big G will have that nagging feeling in the back of his mind every time he returns to that lair.
I'd love to see more of this "super" Kong.
So, more excuses for Godzilla losing. Sometimes, someone just has your number; and since the modern, younger Kong did okay considering the circumstances against him, it is safe to say even Godzilla at his peak would have lost to this battle-hardened, equally as big and powerful ancient Kong.

I find it funny that everyone is saying that Godzilla only lost because he was younger and inexperienced at the time. But are we going to forget the fact that this Godzilla was around when the dinosaurs existed? Kong’s don’t live for millions of years, but thousands. So Godzilla was certainly older and more experienced at the time of the fight. Not to mention, the war happened around the time of humans so this conflict happened thousands of years ago in a war that was recorded. So sure, Godzilla was younger, but sure as hell older and more experienced than the kong that beat him based on simple math. Godzilla just lost, no excuses.

I wouldn't say a kid. Godzilla was still older then All the Kong species that ever walked the Earth. Kong is primate. The rivlary was more hated and longer then the 3 headed one. A loss happens. Godzilla is still KOTM. Regardless both species killed each other. Kong's species built a temple around the power source. We see a huge dead Gojira specie when the Royal Axe is charged. We see a skull of a much larger Gojira specie when Kong pulls the Axe, Adam contradicted a lot AFTER the film,novel,comics,artbook and synopsis. In Dominion Godzilla refers to Kong as a fight with another King looms. Godzilla respected Kong as another Kimg Alpha.

According to Greg keyes, he never said anything about Godzilla being a kid. I listened to his podcast. He was speculating that Godzilla was younger and inexperienced. If Godzilla was a kid going against a fully experienced alpha kong , that would have been a death sentence for him. Especially if they had a serious rivalry back then. We will only find out more info when we get more comics to this back story battle. Godzilla is over 252 million years old, I just can’t see him surviving being too young going against an alpha titan.
I think I agree with your analysis. It is possible the ancient Kong is probably most powerful and the most seasoned fighter. It is possible the current Godzilla has the most powerful atomic blast. I think that in Kong vs Godzilla, Godzilla didn't seem like he intended to kill Kong. He could have done so twice, but he didn't. So, it looked he was looking for something else more powerful and he was attracted to it. He sensed that Kong wasn't the attracting factor because he sensed something more powerful. Kong simply was in his way.
He went out of his way twice to attack Kong
So to clear up any confusion: Before the war between godzilla's and the kong species started. Our godzilla, who was younger and didnt have the atomic breath was beaten and driven out of his home.(It was implied that it took more than one kong to actually drive him out) So he retreated to the hollow earth where he acquired the power of the breath. It stated in the novelization and dominion that godzilla is the only one of his species that actually uses the atomic breath. Because after he gains that he single handledly drove the kongs out of the hollow earth and onto skull island where they lived peacefully til the skull crawlers showed up.
I love it when people say that Godzilla was in a weakened state when he fought Kong. Yet ignore that he couldn't put a scratch on Mecha Godzilla. While the young Kong just suffered a massive heart attack and literally ripped MG to pieces in less than 60 seconds. Before anyone claims the axe as the only reason must remember the facts. 1: monster verse rules were broken when they (as usual) mutated Godzilla's physique for the new movie. 2: allowed Godzilla to move like he was a member of the hidden leaf village. 3: gave him unlimited breath weapon. 4: magically made it possible to carry his billion ton butt on his puny arms. Might as well bring back the 2 mile missile drop kick back from the classic days. I can accept the loss for Kong on reasons of inexperience. The new verse hasn't thrown Kong the bigger fights yet. The heart attack is a throwback to King Kong lives. I will have to adamantly deny the reasons of Hollywood BS shown though.

To be honest I just enjoy this type of stuff. Now, I don't have any theories of how Godzilla got his butt whooped by an ancient Kong and got kicked out of his own lair, but I do know there are alot of theories about that, in which is great alot of discussion. We must consider that the current timeline of events have Godzilla losing his home to a Kong before the actual war, an war Godzilla's been confirmed to fought in it himself. So his grudge against one Kong actually extended to the whole species, but he made sure to keep this one Kong on the top of his hit list. Unfortunately for him, Tiamat robbed him of the pleasure of ending the life of his old rival, but he still got his old nest back.

There is no evidence that Tiamat did anything to the older Kong. His body is nowhere near the ocean floor. It's tucked away on land. It's more possible that Tiamat was just lucky to find an nice location on craigslist.

That vid while interesting didn't show any conflict towards Tiamat and the old Kong fighting . Neither did this one. Both are conjecture and possibilities. Adam even said it's unknown in this current video. Which is only a little contradictory . Since he left it open to possibilities of age , flooding, Titan rivals..... Nobody knows and speculation is almost always put in favor of personal preference. Nobody wants to hear the negative sides of their favorite Titans and most use any excuse they can to defend them. Often ignoring any facts presented . I have no doubt that Tiamat could annihilate any Kong in the depths of the ocean. Land is another argument altogether.

One way I can picture this theory is perhaps during a fight with a rival, the warrior Kong ends up killing many Iwi natives in the battle. While it was accidental, the Kongs exiled him to Godzilla’s hideout, to be food. The warrior Kong sounds out his battle call, to which Godzilla later answers. Godzilla begins his advance, only to be shut down by an attack from a monstrous Kong with pent up rage. Battered and bruised, Godzilla retreats, knowing this foe was far too strong for him. Thinking the Kong’s sent an assassin Kong to try and kill him, he calls the fellow Gojiras to invade the Hollow Earth. This is may also be the cause of the infamous war of Gojiras and the Kong’s. Last part is bullshit. It's highly doubtful that younger Godzilla was able to call all Gojira species to start war, especially by such reasons.

I believe that the possibility of the way how Kong's ancestor defeated godzilla was by ripping one of dorsal plates off to weaken him and have the advantage. Now the reason why it's possible is because if you look at the scene where godzilla made his arrival to Hong Kong, you can see his dorsal plates charged up and flickering Then shows the dorsal plate on kongs axe turning on, So it's possible the dorsal plate on the axe is technically Godzilla's Now I know some will say "the axe turned on because the radiation below where Kong was standing on" But that wouldn't make anysense right, cuz the dorsal plate is part Godzilla's body and is controlled by his mind whenever he's ready to use the Atomic Breath, it wouldn't turned on by it self unless if it still have a nerve or a mind. So it might still had a nerve and connection whenever godzilla is near by, like say if your finger or arm was cut but you still see it moving cuz of the nerves and brain. That in conclusion: Godzilla lost to the Kong by having his dorsal plate ripped off causing him to be weaken and in pain (like how muto prime shattered his) this gave the primate the advantage to beat and finish him off since he is now injured, which made Godzilla retreat. After his battle the king of the monsters Kong's ancestor must've built a axe out the dorsal plate, used it against other titans, and passed it down to the other Kongs to weild it due to his old age. So it comes to show not only godzilla has a grudge against the Kong for kicking out of his home, but a grudge for ripping his dorsal plate as well. (This is only a theory just to let you guys know).
I think everything matched up perfect to the novel,artboook,comics,Synopsis and GvK movie. Adam just contradicted everything to please a young rabid Goji fanbase after the film. It made no sense. GvK was an incredible back and forth battle. The radiation from the Earth's core was the most powerful source in he whole Monsterverse. Only one titan had this source built inside. Godzilla. This made him the most powerful force of nature on the planet. The only other Titan with access to this source is Kong's Royal Axe. With the Axe in hand makes Kong the other most powerful source of nature. The 2 species killed each other. Kong's temple was built around a dead Gojira species. We see it light up when the Axe is charged and another dead Gojira when he grabs the Axe. Both species came in all sizes and types. The Alpha of the Kong species sat on the throne. Godzilla was the Alpha of his species. Losing a battle happens between 2 Alpha Kings. In Dominion, Godzilla's rival with Kong was longer and more hated then the 3 headed one. Godzilla referred to Kong as another King. Godzilla never spares a Titan or shows that kind of respect. They did fight all night till the morning earning respect.

And the skull wasn't a gojira at all, it was a different titan that the kongs killed along with others in the temple, since there were no gojira or kong skull shown So I wouldn't say the war happened inside the temple. Godzilla acknowledged Kong and Kong dropped the Axe.Kong never submitted. In the novel they roared together in celebration. Both left as Kings. Godzilla knew Kong saved him. @@tedunseth3966 the part where it says that the skull was a gojira was not it is because that was written by Greg keyes, and the skull don't even resemble a gojira or a reptile at all since its shape is similar to a bear like titan, so the film says otherwise. If you have not noticed on reddit Adam Wingard confirmed some parts of the novel is not part of the script such as the parts where Greg keyes add some of his words. And the war was technically a battle between different species of titans that godzilla himself and kong's ancestors participated, which is shown in the opening credits, even their worshippers aided them like what jia said on pg 64. Plus the KOTM novel states that there were other titan skeletons along with the anguirus corpse in Godzilla's lair so that shows that other titans participated in the war. And gojicenter only make theories and speculation vids of the Monsterverse they didn't confirmed anything about what happened in the titan war or what the titan skull is And again that was a carving that resembles godzilla not a larger gojira skeleton, and if it was a skeleton we would see a rib cage where Kong was standing but it was never shown or seen in the film cuz why is because it wasn't a skeleton at all. My guess is that Godzilla lost to this Kong due to being young back then. He then gained more experience fighting other kaiju. Eventually, the Kong was killed by Tiamat using a combination of constriction, drowning, and a venomous bite.

I reckon Godzilla laid a dormant egg in a hollow earth cave close to the surface in the Chernobyl area and due to the Chernobyl incident radioactivity breaks down through the earth and starts to insolate the egg in a radio active type of incubator, due to the massive size and scale of the titan the eggs matures over 30 plus year before it hatches in the modern monster verse era and being a youngling unsure of the surrounding and world it finds a harsh start to life and leaving a smaller scale of destruction in its path thus causing the Gman to hunt down and locate it's own under the assumption of a new challenger to his reign

I'm going to be honest here. The bomb in 2019 only gave Godzilla enough energy to heal in a few seconds, with excess being left over, and why he was gonna go thermonuclear. His atomic breath looked the same throughout the entire film. The bomb just gave his body extra energy with quite a lot left over.
IT was however not the bomb that gave him the power to go thermonuclear. That came from mothera. And you even hear mothras scream when he charges up.

The nuke that serizawa used in atlantis was way more destructive and its under water. so for now we can assume that Godzilla needs more radiation to go thermonuclear again albeit less potent than when he is fighting ghidorah, but on the side note. Godzilla Thermonuclear is probably the strongest titan ever, bro could melts stones and building. that shit is overpowered, there is no way any titan can replicate and tank that. But with the things is progressing, i think they will nerf godzilla to that extent where he can't no longer access a less potent but still deadly thermonuclear pulses. cause based on science he should still be able to release that pulses with the amount of radiation he can now harness, he basically showcased the greatest atomice if not one of the greatest.

If anything I think that while yes, this was the most powerful Kong to date, but even without Godzilla being supercharged, Godzilla could've been weakened before the fight. He's clearly survived multiple fights with MUTOs, and has the scars to prove it. What is one of the MUTO's main abilities? Draining the energy of the Godzilla species. Just because he wins the fights doesn't mean they don't take a toll on him. Therefore I speculate Godzilla was on his way home after a particularly rough fight with a powerful MUTO specimen(s) only to see the strongest Kong to ever live ready to fight him.
