I feel like the theme of this episode is that Hank has always been this person, we’ve just been laughing it off because he’s adorable. Hank has never had a problem killing people who did nothing to him, same as Barry
Hank always act like such a sweet heart but all he does is to please other crime boss and dreamed about being a crime lord, that's why he's always second in command of someone, and when he gives compliments, it's not about how nice others are, but how evil and crue they can be, he never once want to walk away from crime and violence, he actually likes it sometimes, not like barry, barry hate violence. I think when hank says "I never feel more like myself" means a lot, and he really is trying to be good for Chritober, but when everything goes south, he didn't choice to tell christober and run away with him( which he totally capable of) he find the opportunity to get back to he's old position, and he actually believe Chritober will be fine with it, maybe deep inside he's more fucked up then barry but he act so jolly so no one notice, hank always have a demon in him.
I agree. There were many small flashes of this side of Hank before, like the confrontation on the rooftop when he tells Barry to go ahead and kill him. When he’s angry he’s a lot like Barry, and that was undoubtedly true before he met Barry.
@claireice You think that because Hank is such a likable character. Just like how Breaking Bad fans always excuses Mike’s behavior because he is an adorable grandpa who “looks like” a good guy even though he’s a mass murderer and worked for a drug cartel.
@@claireice When Hank was introduced, he was trying to kill someone. So uh.......no.
@@nont18411 Hank wasn't a mobster like the rest of the Chechen mob, Goran even chastised him for it in season 1. He kept trying to become a tough guy but kept failing, so much that while he thinks Barry has to go, he has no idea how to do so (rooftop scene, season 2) and has to put up a tough guy act so Barry spares him. During the bus BBQ scene he even admits he wasn't built for this life, he just kept going through the motions and pretending he was this tough mobster. It was only in season 3 that Hank started changing into a mobster, and only after he shot Cristobal's wife that his entire psyche changed. If you think Hank and Mike Ehrmantraut are similar, I suggest you rewatch both shows
Hader said they had to do 7 takes of the shot where Hank breaks down….I can’t even imagine having to keep crying like that for 7 takes lol
That whole scene was one of the greatest scenes in the whole season so far. I am so glad the writers gave Anthony such a massive responsibility and it was so rewarding to see him act his butt off so well. I hope he wins an Emmy for that scene alone. It was so good.
Probably the greatest scene of the entire series.. and that's saying a lot considering the treasure trove of simply A+ scenes we've been treated to this entire show run..
@@antedote1 I completely agree
I think the choice to have [SPOILER] happen offscreen was so brilliant, because it 1) echoed Hank's trauma escaping torture and hearing what happens to his men through the wall 2) sideswipes the audience who knew something would happen but not so IMMEDIATE while 3) actually showing the audience some kindness and not shoving this sad end explicitly, because it's not necessary.
People have always been on Hanks side but let’s not forget Hank has tried to kill Barry twice. Episode 1 and in season two on the roof top. He’s also threatened Barry killing the acting students “all these people go bye bye” when Barry didn’t want to do the hit. So he’s always been a self preserving character. No one in this show is a “good character” they are all tragic narcissists.
All along Hank just wanted to be loved and he tried to find that in Barry but Barry kept screwing him over and then he found that love in Cristobal but he still had lingering self image issues which is why he did what he did in season 4
One of the best episodes of the series, def top 3! Barry is an HBO gem...
One of, if not the darkest as well
That scene of cristobal almost dying in the pit of sand. I was on the edge of my seat
@@Vianeigh863 yeah me too, I felt really bad for him, his demise was gut wrenching. I just love how the show can be goofy and hilarious, yet get so dark within seconds
@@bigb5362 when a man shot he's own son is only the third darkest things happen in an episode says something about this show lol
I still think Ronnie/lily is the best
Amazing episode. so mad my favorite character died though. Their last dialogue was fucking fantastic and amazingly performed. hank is turning into barry.
Yeah Cristobal had JUST become one of my favorites lol
He was always the same
hank has always been that way
Hey I said that last month in my reply - I will take your comment as evidence of my own genius. LOL. Kind of interesting that the only person who arguably ended up being a better person by the end may have been Fuches ( pretty low bar) @@annikazara1367
Anthony's performance was so perfect, someone please throw awards at this man.
My man has been nominated for the Emmy for the last 2 seasons of Barry, this season he is coming for the fucking gold.
It was Michael Irby who really sold the key scene in the episode. I had a very accurate feeling very early in the episode as to where it was going but it was fascinating watching it unfold. The current Sunday line up of Barry, Somebody Somewhere and Succession is killing it
HBO's Sunday Night has been killing it this year, especially with Last of Us just ending in March.
I wish they would stop calling it "the breakup," because every moment of that was far too horrifying, especially the ones where Hank was acting like Elena. This entire scene *broke me.*
Out of curiosity what would you call it instead, the breakdown of Cristobal and hank? I mean I can think of other ways to describe it but that would be too spoilery
@@sonablom The End of Hank and Christobal
@@arcarchivist2638 oh, ouch. Right in the feels. Definitely better.
Hank steals the show every time he’s on screen. Such an interesting character and without a doubt my favorite of the show.
It's sad because Cristobal would die for him. He was willing to die for Hank out of love that was as we've seen not strong enough on Hank's part. Hank would never sacrifice himself for love. Power and his own safety mattered more
This guy is one of the funniest people in Hollywood rn. I hope Bill includes him again in his next project.
I wonder about all these times Bill pitches an idea to the writers room and everyone says no - he seems like a man with a real vision & conviction to see that vision through. More than just playing the role, it's impressive how he runs the show.
Hearing Anthony Carrigan talk without an accent still trips me out lol
Barry kept trying to be good, but he kept making bad decisions to make up for his other bad decisions. Hank has always been polite, but he's always been excited about killing anyone he imagines he can profit from. One wants to be tough, but he's not...the other is tough, but wants to be soft.
Once hanks looks up to his right while walking into the house I knew it was over for Cristobal. Never 100% sure with this show until then.
Heartbreaking episode, but what a fanatic one!
Great scene! What an episode. First half was hilarious and the second half was devastating.
Glad we got this final season in the can before the writers strike.
wait what
I cried
100/0 with cristobal T.T
Woof
Reading that hurt me more than it should have
if hank survives the end of the show a think a hank show would be great
RIP Cristobal and the sand guys :(
“You gangster and your justice. You are all the same.” Manuel Varga to Mike Ehrmantraut, Better Call Saul Same can be said for Noho Hank as well.
That episode of "Better Call Saul" was the perfect slap in the face for those of us who sympathize with those likable or honor-driven characters. At the end of the day, it doesn't excuse any of their actions. In fact, it's worse for them since they know that what they are doing is wrong.
@@jkta97 Unfortunately, nowadays there are still people who think that Mike is a good guy and Kim is a morally pure blameless victim.
@@nont18411 True but people are always gonna be dumb u know? Kim was honestly just as bad as Jimmy.
@@nont18411 The one thing that distinguishes Kim from Mike though is that she left the criminal lifestyle and actually tried to take responsibility for her crimes (the only problem was the lack of evidence).
@@jkta97 The only problem is that “the evidence” chose to take the blames for her in the finale which robbed her of the consequences and caused her to get away with it.
when he was crfying on the couch and the door opens and he says "im sorry hank" i was like oh my goood
Hank had the best scene in s04 when the Fuches assassination goes wrong. 😂
Props to Anthony carrigan great actor this has always been noho Hank
Anthony Carrigan plays Hank SO well, not seeing him as Hank on a regular basis is one of the biggest disappointments that "Barry" is ending with the final episode of this series. BooHoo Hank 😖
I want to see a NoHo hank show damnit!
I want Anthony Carrigan to host SNL and then do a Californians sketch (with Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, and Vanessa Bayer all appearing of course). I feel like he would fit write in lol
He was right to keep it even though everyone disagreed
This show is amazing. It highlights how before Barry came into their lives they were all different and optimistic, once he came they all became basically Barry. Murderers and left hating who they have become.
No. Each of them are already scumbags if you watched carefully.
Są od początku źli. Od początku zabijają, oszukują, zdradzają. Barry czasami naciska za spust za nich, ale to nie czyni ich mniej mordercami.
50/50 with the Chechens just doesn't have the same ring to it... Sigh.
Hank is my favorite character in the whole world
biggest possible oof bill hader is evil
And a damn good storyteller
He's only evil if you *whirr* underestimate him.
i guess i see hank’s decision from a different point of view because i always saw hank killing cristobal as a way to show hank’s fear of barry now that he knows he’s out of prison. he’s so deathly scared of barry and barry’s capabilities that he killed his “husband” in order to gain protection from his people
Anthony Carrigan is the BEST!
Hank is trying so hard to be this hardened criminal but it isn’t in his nature. The show is all about trying to be something you aren’t and the consequences of that..
They’ve showed so many instances when Hank has shown this side it’s always been in him. He literally tried to kill Barry in the pilot, threatened him and his life in S2, and tried killing him again just a couple episodes ago. Hank is just as irredeemable as Barry
hank WAS a hardened criminal and killer. it was only his friendship with barry and love with cristobal that showed his other side ,and maybe softened him up for a short time . ..but ultimately. he was still the same inside . same with barry . barry WAS a hardened criminal and killer. his friendships with the acting group, cousineau, sally showed his other side and softened him up a bit. gave him hope. but yet again , when push comes to shove and crap hits the fan he was the same on the inside. thats the awesome thing about this show though. even criminals, even murderers, are still human. they still feel, they still hurt, they still love. most are wounded and deeply seek acceptance but they are so hurt and life is so effed up that they are simply not strong enough to be good people, no matter how much they wish they could be . they may try but the criminal coping mechanisms run so deep that they always fall back on them.
NoHoHank spin off MUST happen. There. I said it
I had thought the reason Hank finally went back to the Chechens was because Barry broke out of prison and was going to come after him
That’s what I thought too but I like the way they talked about it in this video
Remember when the one guy came to Hank and was basically like the Big Boss knows what you are doing. Do they give him an ultimatum. I was surprised that they killed everyone except Cristobal. But that was an ultimatum as well. Hank could keep his relationship with Cris, but everyone else had to go. Unbeknownst to Cristobal, of course. My only thing is, he should've whispered to Cristobal about why he couldn't leave. I guess Hank didn't have the guts to tell him the truth
Cristobal wiedział jakie są zasady, Hank nie musiał niczego dopowiadać. Cristobal wolał śmierć niż życie z Hankiem pozbawionym skrupułów, wiedział, że odchodząc wydaje na siebie wyrok.
Bill Hader's keeping his beard, season 5????
There’s not going to be a season 5 😞
Is the final season
Why does Bill Hader look like he's still Barry
What did Bill Hader do before he became an actor 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Where do they get those great Euro trash shirts for Hank?
The world shivers when a nice guy loses his hair I MEAN TEMPER
I Hate "TV Guide" !!!!
Is it really meant to be sad for the audience when murderers murder murderers? Hank's and/or Barry's heartbreaks are my entertainment. How is it wrong to consider them bad guys and enjoy watching them suffer?
@Moderately Amused: Interesting question. I think it’s also possible to see the bad guys as profoundly damaged people acting out in horrific ways. “Barry” has excelled at creating multidimensional characters capable of a wide range of feelings and behaviors. Sally, a relatively benign character, was driven to murder. Barry clearly suffers from PTSD, from his war experiences and possibly as far back as childhood. Gene is a narcissist whose insatiable need for attention has driven him to make terrible choices that jeopardize himself and others. And yet most of these characters have demonstrated at least a glimmer of humanity and humor and pain that makes them a little bit relatable for the rest of us. Everyone has a dark side. It’s just a matter of degree.
@@IlGattonero13 exactly!
'It was time to tell this story', in Hollywood lingo meaning 'We are greedy and want to save money.'
The show will go the way of the Walking Dead. You kill off the characters people are attached to, people will then wonder why they are watching it.
this season is the final one so the show is coming to its close. people are bouta die
It's the last season of the show
Yeah... nah... this isnt season 5 of a 12 season show... this is the finale. People die. Status quos change. And most of us watch this for Bill Hader's writing and directing.
The writing in barry is like major league compared to the walking dead
Not a great or accurate comparison
Cristobal😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
as every creative genius Bill seems a bit annoyed with explaining his own work.
