The thing that upsets me the most is the removal of Lucas Bertone missions. Instead they just give you 5 car locations and you get them. Too simplified. You can't see Luca in missions after the race.

10:18 my understanding with Paulie and Tommy getting found by Salieri was Sam ratting on them. He knew of their heist plans and by then had shown a mindset of choosing the family over his friends
In chapter 20 Sam tells Tom that Paulie was found at the horse tracks making unusual bets and that's how they got him and don sends Sam to kill paulie

Hangar 13 seems to have an Issue with immersion. I also wished there were moving locomotives since there are steam engines located in the harbour and also the missing ship which makes the bridge go up and down is really missing is really dissappointing in a 2020 game. Mafia always seems to be one of those games which gets some really good features but then a sequel invents even more good stuff but is lacking a lot good things from previous games. A lot potential but never fully used to its completeness.
That's the entire mafia series. Unlimited potential but they've only ever scratched the surface of what they could do. I have no idea what goes through these devs minds when removing features or leaving them out entirely. There is absolutely no reason you shouldnt have a garage in mafia 3 or be able to at least change the wheels on every car. In mafia 2 you could eat at diners and restaurants. All gone in mafia 3, how could would it have been to go order some gumbo? Or fried shrimp? They have all these detailed restaurants in mafia 3 but you aren't even allowed in them! Like wtf man I understand it's a turbulent time for racism but fck.
Things that bug me the most are the instant wanted level, lack of traffic variety in late game, and not being able to use trains and trams. I hope all of these can be modded in or sorted in a future update. But despite this, I still like the remake much more than the original, and I've played the original for the first time around 10 years ago.

Also almost all traffic lights are gone, the traffic is a mess because of that. I have no clue why would they do that. But removal of trains and trams is the biggest issue imo. I loved riding that train back in the day when playing Mafia.

Definitive Edition improved many things, but I still love the original more, because it gave you more freedom. For example the mission where you break into the mansion just fails when you get spotted. In the original, everyone would storm at you and you'd PROBABLY die - but one of the most awesome moments in my gaming life was when I managed to kill everyone and win the level despite being spotted.

Yeah. And you could do the port mission in many different kinds of ways which was really fun. It's too linear now.
You can still do missions in different ways but you have to be more creative and put in extra effort so I guess it’s a bit less friendly to different types of player.

You also left out the fact that four door/sedan variants of various basic cars weren't included, like how the Bolt Ace, Model B and V8 and the Houston (aka the Wright) only come as two-door coupes/convertibles in DE. Analogues of the Crusader Chromium and Guardian Terraplane, which represent car design trends since the mid-1930s very well, don't even appear in the remake. It's so weird seeing the Culver Airmaster (Ulver Airstream) all over the streets in the late-stage of the game when its real-life inspiration (the Chrysler Airflow) didn't even sell very well IRL. Besides access to trains and tram, that's another thing I'm just hoping they'll start adding post-launch.

And I'd add: gas station attendant putting gasoline, Bertone's missions, different ways to play missions, bridge under construction (and totally builded and available during the story) in the countryside, some Morello's missions, good car physics and shooting, health of other characters during some missions, the cars showed in the back of Salieri's Bar. Even the interior museum looks better than remake. It's a totally mess lol.
And honourable mention: "What's up" guy from Sarah mission.

They won't add DLC's as Hangar 13 said, and I quote, "A faithful recreation to the original".
they remove a lot of things, the monster , the sex scene with sarah, the box that you can use to lock the door (who play the original game know what i talking about) , tommy's house on free ride (extreme) and the garage was so better keep all the cars in the back for the collection, a lot of the bizarre missions on the free ride extreme, they remove the gas station guy, shooting the tires of the yellow car in ordinary routine , tommy dosen't need to clean the bathroom anymore, you can piss in the bathroom motels on ordinary routine mission, you can't kill the worker by shooting in the bucket at the church mission (after crossing the stairs, which falls on the scene), during visiting rich people the maid is not walking around the house, she is standing in a specific room like a robot. Yellow pete was also on the free ride, it was much better to be able to buy weapons with him, it made sense to kill the gansters on the street and collect your money to buy the weapons there, now I need to cross the city every time to the bar, in this new game the free ride has only a couple of missions and not much to do besides that.... and I almost forgot! lordz of brooklyn should send his regards on credits!

I agree on the end credits song. Gravesend (Lake of Fire) was a perfect choice.. It would have been pretty cool to get the Meat Puppets or Nirvana version of Lake of Fire if they did not want to include the Lordz of Brooklyn version.
The free ride in the remake has 12 free ride ,,extreme'' missions,there are 12 letters in the Salieri bar with hints about the locations of the ringing public telephones that start the missions and unlock prototype cars,weapons and outfits.I'm still not sure if these letters appear after you finish the main story (i played free ride after the story),or if they were all in the Salieri bar from the start.

In the old one there was a mission (removed in Definitive Edition) where they try to kill him and that can happens in two different ways: in the airport or in the countryside above the bridge under construction.
Stuff like rideable trains and trolleys and some gang hideouts to take down and more hidden cars, guns and outfits to find, not locked behind phone booth missions, ones you actually have to find are what I would like them to add.
They also remove the Sex Scene from Sarah Mission

It's really funny that next to the Giuliani bridge there is another railway bridge much lower by which a large tugboat and ships of big proportions would be embedded and sink if hit him... they would have to make a bridge of the same proportions as the Giuliani for this railway line, simply It does not make sense that next to a suspension bridge made specifically for maritime traffic to be fluid, there is right next to it a bridge for trains that would be seen in a channel that only little barges cross.
Great video! They also removed the ability to attach semi truck trailers to trucks such as the Hank Model A. The trailers spawn in game with different colors, logos and can be moved around, but not towed.
The developers of the game were way ahead of their time. Imagine the realism they imagined for the original that you could accomplish with todays technology

Sorry but I have to disagree on the removal of health bars for "teammates". I don't regard that move as a bad thing. Why should you fail a mission simply because one of the guys with you gets himself killed and when you have no way of controlling him? That's what happened to me in the original game, when they had the health bars in. It was especially annoying in the car park mission. I think the "teammates" were made god-like so that you could concentrate on your own health, and not that of the others you are with, which is the point of games like this IMO.
But the original game is still so much easier than the remake on classic difficulty
Literally every other series had it so that your teammates can die, one way or another. Why shouldn't Mafia do the same thing? Even having them only being able to die from a time limit would have been better than them not being able to die until the plot tells them to die.

Thank you for this video dude, I really appreciated this content. Some of these things had such nostalgic value, like the one armed gunsmith, that somehow - even though the DE is great - the new game feels incomplete. I still get a wholesome feeling listening to the OG Tommy and Don Salieri too, the remaster just doesn't capture the complete nostalgic atmosphere. This little compilation did manage to close that gap a little bit :)

I really love the remake, but I am with you on the police system 100%. It really did work much better in 3. It’s just a shame they cut it the way they did. Hopefully we see some option or sumthin in the future that changes it, but that’s wishful thinking

I am absolutely gutted that they could not or would not include movable bridges , i was playing the first mission awhile back and i was like i wish they just kept that,you are right the original developers should get more credit for making it more realer than the remake,I just wish they took more time to make it more better , nearly zero replayability after you get all achievements
Seeing scenes from the original just makes me want to play the original again. The simplistic graphics have this strange appeal that the definitive edition lacks. Sometimes photo realistic graphics are just too real. And I miss all ten of the things they cut out of the new game. Especially the trains and the dogs.
2:42 actually in Jimmy's Vendetta you can kill cops without getting wanted status if you kill him quickly from behind, doesn't work like this in other dlcs though.

@@yaro42 These are not missions. No cutscenes, no dialogue, no nothing. In the original you had to do missions to get 8 different cars. In the remake you just drive to 5 cars and steal them.
Original game you could just change cars to lose the cops, which made perfect sense if they were tailing a car but hadn't seen who was driving it yet.

Great video, a lot of things I didn't notice yet but also didn't pay attention to A feature I also miss is the turning lights when driving the car yourself. In the original when you turned the wheels all the way to either side the turn lights would turn on

No.8. WHAT??! Riding trains was so awesome. I even used it few times as getaway from Police. It felt great as back in 2002 there weren't almost any games allowing you to do that. Even now I rememebr thinking "oh wow it's so cool!". If it's now gone it is so so sad.

This game is so great. All we need is a little more content.
This video really highlights all the reasons why MDE actually isn't the definitive version of the game - if you want to know why Mafia was an important and celebrated game you won't understand unless you play the original. Obviously there would be some sacrifices in the remake, but it seems like the whole orientation and feel of the game is completely different in the remake. Each of these characters that is missing really re-enforced the feeling of a living city where npcs would react to you. Honestly, I wonder why the inventory system and npc interactions like that were missing from Mafia 2 and 3 as well.
It became more Console focused with elements designed around controllers rather than a mouse and keyboard. Same reason Morrowind is very different from Oblivion just designed around a different audience and controls.
@@CaptainAmercia Maybe, but the original Mafia was released for consoles - and Morrowind wasn't called 'Oblivion Definitive Edition'. My point is, MDE is not the definitive edition of Mafia because it's missing a lot of what defined the original.
jo jo that’s true but this game is definitely your console third person experience that uses a cover system and controller interfaces compared to the original which predates that formula. Mostly talking about the combat but the removal of smaller details that’s unfortunate. Morrowind and Mafia both had console ports which were that awful ports with clunky interfaces and controls which this definitely feels like a console game ported to the PC, enjoyed this but adored the original just which they found a way to use the classic formula and make it work on consoles aswell Control is a great example of a classic feeling PC third person shooter which felts the controller as well.

The ability to carry a third weapon in your hands and then drop it when you holster was also removed. In the original you would carry a pistol and a shotgun you could holster and then the Tommy was in your hands; until you dropped it with the holster button. I kind of like the new weapons system where you can swap the shotgun for a holsterable Tommy, but I used to laugh at the fact you whistled while dropping it...
I loved hanging around Yellow Pete's store in free ride. It was a cool location! He will be missed!

I still believe that original Mafia is the most technical game in the series. I mean the only considerable thing that was added in later games is fighting and even then it was almost completely scrapped from third game, same with lockpicking...

I can't imagine they had a lot of time to make this game so it's understandable. But adding all these missing features would be really nice.
multiple endings of the missions were also cut. For example Morello's Airport mission. If you drove close to Morello's car, it would bypass the airport and in the end fall of the bridge. Another example is the mission in the old prison. You could leave the crime scene without even being chased by the police if you drop all your weapons before leaving the prison. Then the police will notice you and search you for any weapons if didn't have any weapon you could go free and if you had even a pistol, they would find it and you would be chased or arrested. They also cut lots of missions at Luigi's garage. And the the BIGGEST cut is free ride with bonus missions (with that guy that waves to you).
The wanted level system is what bugs me the most about the game.

THE MUSIC! I played the game mostly to revive the amazing memory i had of the original one but i missed the jazz tracks of the original. Luckily there's a mod for that.
A remake should never, ever have less features than the original. Automatic failure.

I know this is off topic, but I’m currently having an issue unlocking Lincoln’s Samson Drifter and outfit in the game. Same issue in Mafia 3 when Tommy’s taxi and outfit still locked. I’ve contacted 2K, and they said to check my internet connection, which it is, and uninstall and reinstall the game, which I did, but still no luck. 😕

About that Yellow Pete thing, Giuseppe only sell picklocks and some guns (pistols), there is also Hank, which is selling big guns (shotgun, rifles, grenades etc.)
I don't get why Mafia (apart from the first one) games always come out rushed, this is a third game in a row that comes out with cut content. Why do trains always get cut, removed or otherwise inaccessible, in III there so many train tracks, trolley tracks downtown but nope.

I can't believe they removed the Fuel Attendants that would fill the car for you and have an entire animation. Money was cut from the game for some reason so you can't bribe cops. Dialogue is gone, Vince's Armory location isn't up the fire escape anymore, if I remember it was located in the apartment on the other side of the alley.
the wanted car plate was not included , apearance recognition wanted level is not included , how hard is it to copy the same features from 2 to this new one ?
The #10 Dogs and Open world missions, They have open world missions. It's paper strips on Salieri's Bar provided them for you. From Herbert Baskerille. So there is open world missions. Depends on what the difficulty is sets it for you in the missions.
When 8:08 hits with that music, I fell into instant depression.
1. I'm bummed that dogs aren't in the definitive edition. On the flip side, I've played at least half of the original game and don't remember dogs. 2. That does seem like a rather obnoxious crime system. Games have followed the notion that no witnesses equals no crime since the original Mafia days. I have no idea why someone would decide that it's better for cops to jump up your ass after you commit a crime in the middle of nowhere. 3. Train and tram accessibility would be a neat addition to the definitive edition. However, it's not a necessity. You can get anywhere much quicker by driving. Train and tram accessibility would be useful for fast travel or enjoying the view while you put the controller down and take a break. 4. I agree wholeheartedly how no friendly fire is annoying. I don't enjoy the lack of challenge either. 5. I'm shocked the knuckle duster isn't in the definitive edition. I'm also confused about the footage for this part of the video because it clearly shows the knuckle duster being used in the definitive edition. Is that a mod? Is that old footage prior to the removal of the weapon? I don't see why they've opted to keep brass knuckles out. 6 The missing vehicles from the original version were funny or interesting enough in the original, but I don't feel like it really bothers me how they're not in the definitive edition, especially because the definitive edition has its own interesting exclusive vehicles. 7. Yellow Pete was irrefutably important in the original, but the definitive edition was attempting to switch some things and I don't condemn them for that in this particular instance. 8. Moveable bridges really aren't a necessity, but I'm still surprised to see they're non-existent within the definitive edition considering the level of attention to detail. 9. I honestly don't miss Idiot Joe. I mean, I don't hate that he's in the original, but I also don't really miss him in the definitive edition. I guess it could've been fun to beat him up in the definitive edition, but there's plenty of opportunities to get into fist fights before then. I wouldn't say Idiot Joe was crucial to the story. 10. The Big Dick subquest was unquestionably comical, and I always enjoy a good shootout. This is an example of something they probably viewed as insignificant, but it's my opinion that you don't always do things with games because they're necessary. Oftentimes you do things for games because it puts a smile on the faces of the fans. In both games it's virtually pointless to walk around the city, but it definitely adds to my immersion when the city looks more realistic and lively.

In the Prison during the sniper mission there is a grafitti saying "I lost my left arm in France for this" maybe a little reference to yellow pete.
That's why I never prefer remasters and remakes of original games: the devs just have to sneak their noses into the gameplay and cut off parts of it just for the sake of making the game more "comfortable" to play. I'll just stick with the original Mafia game from 2002, and I don't care one bit about those old graphics. They are actually part of the game's charm for me. Thank you for this video!
You forgot that you that in the original Mafia you can use gas stations to fuel up the car. this was back in the time important to me 😉

I swear I played Free Ride and unlocked a Hot Rod. I had to pick up a phone call somewhere that then got me the car, and I unlocked it if I got it to a specific place on time without taking damage. Isn't that a Hot Rod?
Hey man just had to pop a comment for mentioning how in mafia pc you could attack your allies at the bar as silly as that was back when the game came out I found that so fun and funny and haven't even been able to find video of it. Just playing the DE now and attacking the bar would be the only reason to play the original.
Them removing Django Reinhardt's Belleville from the radio was the worst crime they could do.
I did the 5 hidden cars but game didn't give me flame spear some reason this a glitch?
There's also a cut content in the game in saint and sinners mission where you have to assassinate the manager at the hotel, on the early version you can interact with the manager that will trigger an execution animation Tommy will shake hands with the manager saying "Mr Salleri sends his regards" and puts a bullet between his eyes, sadly you cant do that in the retail version
