    • Do you think he would have apologized, had he not been called out on it? NO. For an APOLOGY to be sincere, the recognition of an error in judgment MUST be reached by the individual. Not by other people. For most people that takes time, if not years. For some, it only takes us a few moments or hours to realize a lapse in judgment. He can apologize all he wants now. Let's see how he is after 25 more years of experience.

  • A selfish mistake makes a person stumble, perhaps even fall. Then an honest apology makes that same person soar. Knowing someone can see themselves when they go wrong, can see how it can be fixed, and can feel and regret other people's negative feelings...that's a person you want in your life almost no matter what else. That's a friend you can grow with. That's a person you can trust. Which is rare.

Too many times people like to remind someone of their wrongdoings even after they apologize and try to do better rather than acknowledging the attempt to do better. Yes, screw ups like this shouldn't happen in the first place. But if we keep bringing up the bad things somebody did and ignore actual attemps at doing better, then we end up giving them no reason to do better.
