On April 23, the Oklahoma House debated and voted on SB 1200. This bill seeks to extend Daylight Saving Time (fast time) permanently into winter. The bill is authored by Senator Blake Stephens (R-3, Tahlequah).
Permanent DST would delay sunrise in Oklahoma past 8am (when most school/work begins) for three to five months, later even than 9am. Oklahomans rejected permanent DST when it was federally mandated in 1974. Permanent DST has been federally prohibited ever since. Permanent Standard Time (natural time) instead is federally approved, supported by science, and proven by history to be best for health, safety, education, economy, and liberty.
Representative Scott Fetgatter (R-16, Okmulgee) led support of the bill. Representative Kevin West (R-54, Moore) presented a floor amendment and led opposition to the bill. Ultimately the bill passed as submitted. It next goes to the governor’s office for veto or enactment. Please tell Governor Stitt to veto SB 1200!

  • Please tell Governor Stitt to veto SB 1200! Permanent DST would put Oklahoma sunrise past 8am for 3-5 months, as late as 8:30-9am. It cost lives and business when last tried. Click here to contact his office: oklahoma.gov/governor/contact/leave-a-comment-or-opinion.html
