And if Strange pulled his Dormammu tricks, Thanos could have easily escaped and surpassed the Time Stone tricks. Space could be used to exit the space where Strange tries to pull off the loop (which apparently takes a while to pull off the trick), used Reality for a space where time is insignificant, so on and so forth. Also, Tony needed to be alive for a reason.
