  • Don't forget the cold air is more dense air than warm air. This will affect battery economy. The Pro SS has a very large sprocket for performance and if sized compatibly to other bikes, the results would be different. Rider weight and tire pressure and wind direction wasn't mentioned either. The cold suit will also be a factor. I still want one of these.

    @oby-1607@oby-16072 ай бұрын
    • Are u bringing up density as it would impact drag? Because air density is going to have a negligible impact on an ebike. Temperature is the killer, nothing to do with air density. ICE engines, on the other hand, love cold air, as it's higher oxygen density means 'more boom' on detonation cycle.

    • @@demwillams8898 My Surron performs noticeably worse in cold weather in terms of power, I've never tested range difference between a hot and cold day but it wouldnt surprise me if that was also affected.

    • @paulhope3401 right, worse because temp not because of air density. I was trying to understand why the post I replied to brought air density at all in regards to this platform.

    • @demwillams8898 I suppose colder air will be denser and likely affect drag CO a tad.. but I'd expect the effect to be miniscule and the far larger effect to come from reduced battery performance.

  • That stock BMS could be the kink in the equation. Most vendors don't 100% their items and drop it more so down to around 80% efficiency that way they can have more buyers and aren't narrowing their targets. Give it 6 mths, someone is going to crack that stock controller or just make a compatible one. Great videos steadily dudes!

  • I expect you lost 10% - 15% (5 to 7 miles) of range due to temperature. Once the battery was outside and running on the bike. It will cool down fast and capacity will be effected. Still a great test!! I run a 72V 38Ah e-bike in Canada. In the cooler months I get ~43miles & in the summer I get 49 miles of range. I drive it like its stolen!! At +5°C; the output voltage of the battery will drop faster but the motor & controller are more efficient. At +30°C; battery capacity will actually increase but the motor and controller are less efficient.

    • In addition, colder more dense air slows the bike down and winter gear also increases drag. I have an ebike and I see about a 25% reduction in range in the winter months with temps in the low 30s compared to runs on the same roads in the summer when temperatures are in the 80s

That would explain how they are able to compete only 400 bucks more when a talaria would need 2500 to make it to the 72volt....just use crappy cells and we can call ourselves a 72 volt.

It would have to be sitting for many hours for the internal temperature of the battery to be affected. And like the guy said, there is a small amount of warmth generated when discharging. I work for LG and have been working with lithium batteries for years. They have to be exposed to cold weather for 12+ hours before there is any degradation of capacity. • I wonder how much of a role drafting played in the upgraded battery getting significantly better distance than the SS. In cycling, drafting can result in 100-150w savings. In a test like this, an extra 100w of savings over that time period could definitely make a difference.

  • The CCW 72V in the video wasn't fully discharged! 67V is well above the 0% cuttoff which CCW lists as 55V or the normal 72v cutoff at 60V, if you trust charts online you had another 30% left!

    • @@Talariaboys Unfortunately not! I just went on their site and that's what they list it as. I do have a Ebicycle with a 72v and I go to 60V / 0%

      @Bengy22@Bengy224 ай бұрын
    • So I understand what your saying and that's what would make sense but in reality thats not how the voltage works. In this test once we came to a stop and our battery was just sitting with the bike not pulling any power from it the voltage sagged back up to 67v which your right is about 30% if you are looking at a chart, however once you start riding again the voltage immediately sags down to about 10% on a voltage chart and if you pulled more throttle it would go all the way to 0. If you didn't know already most stock batteries show 0% when in reality if you look at their voltage its between 30-35% on a voltage chart because again, if you got back on the bike and the controller allowed you to do a hard pull you would sag all the way down to low voltage cut off. The Voltage is only consistant to 30% and then it drops like a rock! When looking at a voltage chart you really are only good to ride to around 30% unless you are taking it really easy and slow past that point and wont last long anyways. In reality 55% is not the cutoff, 60V is. 55 is like when the battery is so dead that the bms doesn't work and your battery is ruined.

      @Talariaboys@Talariaboys4 ай бұрын
    • @@Talariaboys I'm surprised the CCW battery sags that much tbh, just based off my own experience I can pretty reliably pull my batteries voltage down to the 60V mark if needed, while still maintaining a decent amount of power. For the slow speed range test you probably only pull a few amps, for the battery to sag 5-7v at that power is huge. I built my 72v battery and I get around 5v max of voltage sag at max power for my bike. If I was to hold 28mph I would maybe sag 1v. Could also be the cold weather kicking in though for sure, colder cells have higher internal resistance causing more voltage sag. Well 55v is the point the bms will cutout, its not good for overall battery health but doing it once isn't going to hurt the battery much less ruin it, the bms will work fine and do its job (unless the bms and or battery is bad quality which i don't think the CCW is). I would be curious what the Erides voltage was and what it was cutting out at. The speed slowdown when it was at low % probably helped it not sag below 60v and thus allowing the voltage to get closer to 0%
