It is so obvious this is haram but some people are just too excited about the possibilities etc.. no wonder the world is in the pathetic mess that it’s in. Most people will always gravitate towards the path of least resistance. This is a real shame.

Sir I have never seen an Islamic teacher having a strong grasp on financial topics, especially money. Also, it is of paramount importance that no body in universities east or west (atleast of those I am aware of) teach what is money. Only if we really knew what money was. I have to make a point here. The value of Bitcoin is always the same, ALWAYS! It’s value is fixed, because only 21 million bitcoins can exist. The value of bitcoins CANNOT be expressed in classical currencies, because of their volatility and ability to devalue almost everything, EVEN GOLD. I think Sheikh Imran made a mistake here by evaluating bitcoin in USD. Bitcoin has an intrinsic FIXED value, USD not. Bitcoin is being generated by the so called “bitcoin-mining”, where huge amounts of energy are being used and invested to generate an algorythm. It cannot be hacked, neither can the value be turned up and down. In my opinion, Bitcoin is one of the best innovations in human history and a great set-back to classical currencies and banker-criminals.

My issue is, it's all well and good to have precious metals as currency, it should be that way, but in my country we use coins and banknotes. I can't buy anything with gold and silver unless I first exchange it for haram money. Personally, I don't think it's that important anyway, it's a minor issue for the Ummah. It's not our fault that our money is riba-based, I still gotta pay zakat in paper money. Not our fault, it's all we have and all we can trade with. Gold is not legal tender here in New Zealand, it isn't legal tender in England, perhaps you can tell me where gold/silver IS accepted in shops/markets etc?

Jason Mckenzie You have missed the underlying issue. First of all paper money not that long ago was backed by gold. I think $20 USD used to get you a gram of gold or something. Now it is completely based on the trust of the people. Anyway before I get into a tangent about the many ways the system can be abused let me share the most obvious one. Gold as you know, cannot be printed from out of thin air and this prevents abuse from governments who for example might want to start a war and need to fund that war, well unless they find a gold mine they will have to print more money from out of nowhere any then this causes all of the existing money to depreciate in value. Inflation is the end result. This is haram in Islam and we as Muslims should strive to bring back the laws of Allah and not just go along with the status quo simply because it’s not in our hands. Like the prophet pbuh said, if you see an injustice being done and your in a position to do something about it then you must, if you can’t do something then at least say something and this is what the sheikh is doing and if you can’t even do that then at least hate the injustice in your heart. Don’t justify the use of paper money just because it wasn’t you who came up with the idea, but instead be ready to undermine the current system by what ever means you can.

Let me explain this to you in a nutshell, Non oil producing countries which is most have to buy oil is USD because of the petrodollar system, this forced those countries to send USA goods and services, stuff of actual value and exchange it for a piece of paper an American Jewish owned bank printed from out of thin air. This gives USA an extremely unfair advantage over the entire planet and for us Muslim in particular this is an issue as our collective wealth ie the oil, is being used as a tool in order to give the Americans an opportunity to offset their own trade debts on the entire planet. And to top it off USA uses the wealth it earned in order to slaughter us and support the zionists. It is a massive issue bro not a minor one. This issue alone is more then enough justification to kick off the Third World War over. I don’t think trivialising such an important issue is a good idea. We should never intellectualise or rationalise the causes of our pathetic miserable state by saying it’s not a big deal it’s only a minor one. If we ended the petrodollar today America will collapse by tomorrow.

you need to establish islamic village and survive after big war." its not our fault" is not the right answer, you need to make hijra or establish islamic market where you can take one kilo rice and swap or trade with one kilo egg maybe, the egg owner he need rice and the rice owner ( you) need eggs too. i have rice field and fish farm, we cook rice and fish from the farm ( make BBQ) and add few vegetable that we have on the top .. here we go,we have the best meal for family. plus few goats and sheep for milk and my chicken . totally independent of money, market and banking system... I take one kilo rice to my neighbor and he give me one litter oil. he need rice and i need oil too.. that is what you need to do i think..

If Cryptocurrency/Bitcoin is not halal due to its actual value, how is ‘paper’ money itself halaal? Does paper money itself have any value? Yes Gold is the truest valuable currency but unfortunately in this day & age it cannot be used as a form of currency. Why should we accept Governments (Criminals) print paper money and accept that it’s permissible?? One of the main factors of Cryptocurrency is to diminish these such Organisations (Govt/Banks) to have control over our finances. When you ask ‘Can you bury Bitcoin?’ The answer is yes - In form of a hardware. Price fluctuations also apply in Fiat Currency and Gold etc too, maybe not as volatile as CC but CC will eventually come to a point where it will be steady with ‘normal’ volatility as soon as the demand/hype dies down. May Allah give us the tawfeeq to earn Halaal and give us baraqah in our earnings and our lives In Sha Allah.

Bitcoin doesn’t have intrinsic or inherent value. This isn’t as serious a handicap as it might seem, because nothing has intrinsic value. Not government notes, not gold, not even grain, or salt. Intrinsic value cannot exist because value is subjective. Value exists only in minds. A mind imputes value to a particular instance of a thing in accordance with how useful it believes that thing will be in the service of satisfying its wants. Human wants are subjective. Wants, and their relative intensities, vary from person to person, and from day to day.

His argument is that gold and silver is divinely appointed, and its value does not change overtime. You can get a certain amount of dollar, euro, or sterling pounds from gold coins or silver coins at any time, but to do so vice versa, you'll have to keep an eye on its time value of money. You'll need to consider the how much dollar, euro, or sterling pound, is the gold and silver worth to buy one coin. Bitcoin is no different. It's a virtual currency that one can mine utilizing their machines. One day should it be shut down, it will have no value. Then what value will it give versus gold coins and silver coins? There's a lot of things. Mainly, because Bitcoin is not divinely appointed but also it is just not something you can come to possess and is volatile, whereas gold is not volatile. It's stable. Currencies based on the gold are volatile.

Gold and Silvers value comes from its scarcity. It's tangible as opposed to some numbers that are created out of thin air and then printed onto paper. Regardless of all that Allah has decreed Gold and Silver as a form of currency in the Qur'an and that should be enough for you to accept it as such.

one question for everyone. bitcoins goes up everyday and people start selling the house, car and asset and buying it with the hope of making more money. here is the question. just say you sold your house, car and gold and you invest the money in bitcoins. so if one day bitcoin collapsed, who/where you going to complain to ? who owns the bitcoins? nobody owns the bitcoins. so you will lose everything and there is nobody to help you either..

I have to make a point here. The value of Bitcoin is always the same, ALWAYS! It’s value is fixed, because only 21 million bitcoins can exist. The value of bitcoins CANNOT be expressed in classical currencies, because of their volatility and ability to devalue almost everything, EVEN GOLD. I think Sheikh Imran made a mistake here by evaluating bitcoin in USD. Bitcoin has an intrinsic FIXED value, USD not. Bitcoin is being generated by the so called “bitcoin-mining”, where huge amounts of energy are being used and invested to generate an algorythm. It cannot be hacked, neither can the value be turned up and down. In my opinion, Bitcoin is one of the best innovations in human history and a great set-back to classical currencies and banker-criminals.

My issue is, it's all well and good to have precious metals as currency, it should be that way, but in my country we use coins and banknotes. I can't buy anything with gold and silver unless I first exchange it for haram money. Personally, I don't think it's that important anyway, it's a minor issue for the Ummah. It's not our fault that our money is riba-based, I still gotta pay zakat in paper money. Not our fault, it's all we have and all we can trade with. Gold is not legal tender here in New Zealand, it isn't legal tender in England, perhaps you can tell me where gold/silver IS accepted in shops/markets etc?

Jason Mckenzie You have missed the underlying issue. First of all paper money not that long ago was backed by gold. I think $20 USD used to get you a gram of gold or something. Now it is completely based on the trust of the people. Anyway before I get into a tangent about the many ways the system can be abused let me share the most obvious one. Gold as you know, cannot be printed from out of thin air and this prevents abuse from governments who for example might want to start a war and need to fund that war, well unless they find a gold mine they will have to print more money from out of nowhere any then this causes all of the existing money to depreciate in value. Inflation is the end result. This is haram in Islam and we as Muslims should strive to bring back the laws of Allah and not just go along with the status quo simply because it’s not in our hands. Like the prophet pbuh said, if you see an injustice being done and your in a position to do something about it then you must, if you can’t do something then at least say something and this is what the sheikh is doing and if you can’t even do that then at least hate the injustice in your heart. Don’t justify the use of paper money just because it wasn’t you who came up with the idea, but instead be ready to undermine the current system by what ever means you can.

Gold and Silvers value comes from its scarcity. It's tangible as opposed to some numbers that are created out of thin air and then printed onto paper. Regardless of all that Allah has decreed Gold and Silver as a form of currency in the Qur'an and that should be enough for you to accept it as such.
