'Top Speed Germany' is a German KZhead channel for people who love cars.
My Name is Max and I film while driving cars. No matter if they are old, fast, loud or electric. They need to be special! With several onboard cams, I record everything important to show you High-Speed-Runs, Acceleration tests ( 0-100 kph / 0-200 kph / 100-200 kph / 200-300 kph ) and test drives on German Autobahn or Road. Please note, Germany is the country of "no speed limit" highways. So in some places, it's allowed to drive very fast. But please don't try this if you are not an experienced driver !! If you enjoy give a like and subscribe for more videos ;-) .
How the old Mercedes handles that speed with stability and confidence is truly amazing.
all the old Benz's were like this. in Australia my father purchased a new 67 280s and it was about 60+ klm faster than anything the police had at the time. i remember a couple times mum telling dad off for getting chased out on the highway. back in 1970 there was almost no traffic on interstates compared to today.

That pulls so well for what it is and the age. Goes to show how good the engineering was with merc. Almost no power loss to 200 kph either.

I had a 330D W123 from 1980, I sold it about an year ago (no time to enjoy it as much as I wanted), and it was making EXACTLY that noise after 30 years :) Though I greatly doubt it was able to go over 160kph... But it did manage 140 :P No turbo, aspirated :)

@A Omar There’s a well known reason for that or didn’t you know? Emissions regulation was choking all the engines then. That same 8.2 V8 made 400 horses and 550 lb.ft. in 1970. Shove that in your pipe and smoke it.

They moved across the road from us, and built the first home swimming pool in the whole of the town. The next door neighbour to my friend, owned a metallurgy company and he had the same car, exactly like this one in the video (except a UK one). My friend’s dad had a “shit brown” 280E, but it was a thrill to ride in it. My mum had a Corsair 2000E, and that was junk compared to the Mercs on our street. My father had one of those too! Same year! 07/1991 how I miss that car... we had it for like 18 years and luckly I´ve driven quite some times Have this old wish to buy one and restore it
My grandpa owns a W124 E280 Automatic from '94 and still drives it every day. I'm absolutely in love with that car and if one day he can't drive it anymore, I definetly want to take care of it. It's in perfect shape with only 160k km and still has the first exhaust.
My dad used to own w124 200d from 1992 manual 4-gears transs. Top speed was 170 km/h. Once it reached 185 km/h with gas instead of diesel and it made 600 kms without any problem and any damage. After that day it worked for other 12 years with us,reached 550.000 km on the odometer and still was able to reach 165-170 km/h with ease. All parts were original, the engine, transmission, exhaust, friction! I miss that car a lot!
I highly doubt it! Manufacturers can set the speedometer to be around 10% higher for safety reasons. Also, as your tyre wears down the rolling radius changes. Over or under inflating your tyres also has an effect. My friend in highway patrol stated that you can get away with 10% plus 2 mph for those very reasons. So no car is 100% accurate, 100% of the time ... unless you change your tires and keep the same psi of air in those tires after every trip to the shops. So just because you're holding a car at 200 kph on the speedometer, doesn't mean you're doing 200 kph
BMW & Mercedes in the mid 20th century agreed to limit their cars to 155 mph/250 kmh. I'm guessing due to safety or whatever, this is correct for cars from the factory. Even removal of the limiter be it mechanical or electrical yields very little gains. Gear ratios meant the speed wasn't much more than the agreed threshold. PS, this agreement is still active & covers a few other makers. Only a few special models have the limit removed as stock, the one that comes is the CLK GTR.
Wow!!! Thanks so much Max! You make us dream! What a fine lady this Mercedes!

Amazing also feel breathless to witness how great this old car can handle 200 km/h with perfect stability and smooth... I just worried something bad happend haha.... awesome !!
My Mom had one of these in '73; lovely interior and fun to drive. Wish I had kept it.
He's just so calm doing 220 with that old car and here in my country even with a new car, driving at 120-130 is like a suicide attempt.
Krishna Srinivasan autobahn has no speed limit
@@pietarinokonen607 yes, I know. I was just stating the fact that the car drives so smoothly for its age.
@@pietarinokonen607 part of the autobahn
Krishna Srinivasan No holy cows on the autobahn and people are disciplined. We don’t have holy cows or any other farm animals on our motorways in my country but we have something almost as dangerous: Women (usually blond) in micro cars in the left lane at 100 km/h where the speed limit is 130 km/h and people reading/writing text messages while driving.
the autobahn is a straight line so the only thing you need to do is keep it in a straight line and as you can see people are displined in the way they drive.
5:53 that BMW drove like "omg, if this thing is gonna explode at 200 km/h, i don´t wanna be right next to it" xD
BMW is trash
O Thanks so great Video coll so clasic cars old awesome in this time by thomy a good time a Fan from your channel
What a beauty /8. Amazing!!
I believe that it can be described by only one word: Smooth...
This brought me a lot of memories, my father had one of this and that was my first car (w114 280 manual), it was amazing how it accelerated and took corners, also the ride was so confortable. I have never forgotten the sound of that six cilinder engine at 6500 rpm's and the face of some friends who had american cars that couldn't even dream about doing so many high rpm's on their cars. That engine had an oil cooler, and used 7 liters, that was a lot of oil to replace.
Mis dudas...

A beaut of a car. It’s wonderfully comfortable. Thirsty, I’m afraid (heavy gauge steel in the body), but driving it just makes you smile 😊 The rear window is huge and looking in the mirror, it seems there’s nothing behind between you and the countryside! The boot is HUGE - 4 suitcases and stuff on top of them huge! I I’m looking forward to next summer already! (Winter in the U.K. isn’t kind to classic cars: salt on roads etc.) I’m happy to do the ton in mine (remember it’s kph 😉), but I’m not sure I’d be too relaxed doing 220 kph in a 1973 car of any kind. Why get an old lady to do the 100 m? Yes you _could_ do it, and you know you could, but why risk a burst tyre/metal fatigue/hose blow somewhere? Stroll around, parade, see & be seen, let others enjoy your form and style 😊. Believe me, they appreciate it! (He really should fix the odometer: not hard to dismantle & repair/replace. I suspect it might have done more than 22,000 km, even on the second time round!)
Fantastisches Auto, das als Vorläufer des 190 E 25-16 angesehen werden kann. Ich hatte damals nur einmal die Gelegenheit, unter diesen Bedingungen einen zu fahren, und ich erinnere mich noch daran.
