Sainsbury’s Christmas advert, 1914. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion. Inspired by real events from 100 years ago.
This year’s Christmas ad from Sainsbury’s - Christmas is for sharing. Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion, it commemorates the extraordinary events of Christmas Day, 1914, when the guns fell silent and two armies met in no-man’s land, sharing gifts - and even playing football together.
The chocolate bar featured in the ad is on sale now at Sainsbury’s. All profits (50p per bar) will go to The Royal British Legion and will benefit our armed forces and their families, past and present.

You might want to watch the final part of the last series of famous TV comedy "Blackadder goes Forth" nicknamed "Blackadder goes over the Top" It's here on KZhead. Nearly all of Blackadder is a pleasure to watch, tho I wouldn't recommend starting with the first installment. Check for the episodes featuring Lord Flasheart tho Rik Mayalls acting is not for the faint hearted ( check " the Young ones" and "Bottom" series for more of that brilliant comic) As for that final part - it's in the top ten of most memorable moments on TV in the 20th C for a reason, and it's surely one of the best I've ever seen. Even if it's comedy, one of the more touching scenes you'll be able to watch about WW1

@@baranyaipeter1462 Same here.
Same. This is one of the most beautiful yet heart-wrenching ads I've ever seen.
I read a book about this. They were devastated when they had to go back to war, for they remembered how beautiful life was. Love, people. It's what Christmas is meant for.
Both sides advanced more in one 1914 Christmas piss-up than in the following 4 years!
What’s even worse is that soldiers from both sides kept trying to continue the truce… and they were killed. The allied army even shot a cat that traveled between the groups because he had a harmless note on him.
@@RaysofLight98Do you have a source for this?
A thing that happened after Christmas on December 26 1914 a German soldier was shot because he went out to play soccer (football) for my Englishmen with the opposite it was off the record but it was a true thing that happened
The real story is that a single german came up first, Not the British. After they had to go back to their trenches, in which they did not want to fight. The final decision was made and they were then replaced. It's pretty sad that the Politicians wanted to make them fight whereas the war could've possibly ended then and there. Edit: Almost the 1 year anniversary since I wrote this comment, Happy Christmas.
TDFodZ as far as I have read, the trench line was way too long to exactly determine who came first. People from one side saw the other but might have not seen their side in which someone could have come out. This is probably why different sources say different things about who came up first.
TDFodZ also about what you said about the politicians, I read that after this they put the head soldiers and the soldiers that participated to the truce “to die”. Allegedly they moved them to battles that they knew they were going to loose, in the front lines as well, purposely to make sure they wouldn’t survive. They didn’t want people to know about what happened, -they also tried to stop the letters they wrote to their relatives about it, but they couldn’t control some that were already sent. The story was already out, because those were the proofs.
Politicians will forever make us fight.
How could they fight after that?
No matter who came to who's side. It doesnt matter. We're humans and once a connection is made we all have a bond. Even before the bond we all know we are humans, with a name, family, and story.
I think the British Army & the German Army should meet up in 2024, Singing "Silent Night" on 110th Anniversary of this event.

Not really, during the Christmas truce some people used it as a chance as sabotage and were untrustworthy of each other, including an incident where German caroling was ordered to be drowned out by British gunfire and artillery. But not every sector was like this, even Indians made peace with the Germans on Christmas, although none of the Indians knew or cared about Christmas, the lit bonfires reminded them of Diwali, and some Germans led Indians out of the trenches with Cigars and smokes.

Most of the British and the Germans come from the same bloodline, dating all the way back to Jacob and his 12 sons. There is much historical proof but it's difficult to find. I would suggest to start by reading a book by Raymond E.Capt " Missing links discovered in Assyrian tablets".
I may not quite understand what you tried to type but I wholeheartedly agree
This was made in the true spirit of Christmas…….supermarkets need to re watch this and figure out where they all went wrong! No commercialism, no materialism just good old fashioned values that we need more than ever these days……..
I’m binge watching Christmas ads for a grocery chain that doesn’t even have a presence in my country. And I’m crying. Happy holidays.
This is the best Christmas commercial I've seen in my life.
amen
You mean Advert
Girl: I can't believe you did not cry after watching Titanic! Do you have emotions? Have you ever cried? Me:
I had a breakdown after 1917
2022 and I’m still coming back to this bloody brilliant Advert
Watching it in the end of 2023 . Quite the best add ever i have seen 🤝❤️ 🇩🇪🇬🇧
For the 100 year anniversary of the Christmas Truce of 1914 Sainsbury's has created one of the most beautiful shorts I've seen in a long time! This shows how unnecessary war really is and that most people would get along just fine under different circumstances. Ignorance and blind fear are the real enemy. Share this to remind people that it could be different if people chose so.
That was heart warming. X)
there is a film on the same "theme" it's called merry christmas ( the original title is joyeux noël) ^^
All the war ever brought was pain and suffering and wasting human beings
Depends on the war, however WW1 was a huge mistake.
I agree. Just like everyone else around that time, the soldiers on both sides were made to believe in lies and propaganda
I came here because John lewis just released their 2015 ad and I remembered that no other ad gave me feels like this one! It still gets me...
Snap! Same here!
+raven navera ditto
+raven navera I did exactly what you did! I thought John Lewis's and Sainsburys' 2015 instalments were sweet, but this stuff rips your heart out, then injects it with a copious amount of warm fuzzies and very gently tucks it back in again.
+raven navera SAME
It's called hardtac
December 23, 2023 - one day before Christmas in 2023. I came here to pray for world peace, to pray for the gunfire filled with hatred and violence to stop around the world 🙏
Should be played every year to remind us of the Christmas spirit.. maybe Sainsbury's might use it for Christmas 2024.. This ad. is way ahead of any ad l have seen ....
And today we're all brothers, tonight we're all friends A moment of peace in a war that never ends Today we're all brothers, we drink and unite Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white Hear carols from the trenches, we sing O Holy Night Our guns laid to rest among snowflakes A Christmas in the trenches, a Christmas on the front far from home
Sabaton made the newest Christmas song that only makes this day more special and more understanding for all of us no matter what nation we're from... here it shows that Christmas is for everyone.
@@Kanefan701 They just made an animation for it, too.
@@sir_cabbage1170 so I saw
And tomorrow we are all enemies..
@@duyanhgeorge3228 sadly
This ad compared to the new 2017 John Lewis christmas ad... man the differences are insane. This one is a million and one times better and has real meaning behind it. Well done Sainsbury's. Can't wait for the 2017 one :)
ItsCalledKarma it’s disappointing, the 2017 one. They all are this year!
Moz the monster got nothin on Kevin the carrot, who doesn't like an adorable carrot and to make matters better, he is called Kevin! still i love this one, it brings christmas memories back of seeing this for the first time...

@jemielnic Okkk maniac
@jemielnic what obsession with race mixing
Still goes hard after almost 10 years
Three minutes long yet more impactful than most films today.
Imagine how awkward that must have been though if suddenly The two sides play football and the have to go back to killing each other
They didn't. Most of the men after that day refused to fire at eachother that high command needed to reassign the men to different posts so they would fight once more but they didn't fight the brothers they bonded with.
It’s war
like another reply and another comment i saw said, loads (possibly all) of these soldiers were replaced because they refused to fight one another after this
@@AVGyerra22 understandable: I wouldn’t be able to fire after that either. WORTH IT!!
If I remember correctly some troops resisted until nearly New Years. But the German commanders dispatched snipers to break the ceasefire and the British fired artillery bombardments etc. If only the men in no man's land that day were the ones in charge
Tomorrow marks the 100th year since “The War To End All Wars”. Remember all these men that gave their lives to save their homes.
@jemielnic. I'm glad you have faith the Americans. Most of us don't these days.
"And today we're all brothers Tonight we're all friеnds A moment of peace in a war that nеver ends Today we're all brothers We drink and unite Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white"
Hear carols from the trenches we sing o holy night are guns laid to rest among snow flakes
Best Christmas ad ever
This is the longest and best ad for sliced onions I've ever seen Sainsbury's make.
