Lyrics
I used to be lunatic from the gracious days
I used to be woebegone and so restless nights
My aching heart would bleed for you to see
Oh but now...
(I don't find myself bouncing home whistling buttonhole tunes to make me cry)
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word
(The lover speaks about the monsters)
I used to have demons in my room at night
Desire, despair, desire... SOOO MANY MONSTERS!
Oh but now...
(I don't find myself bouncing home whistling buttonhole tunes to make me cry)
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me in silence
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word
(They were being really crazy
They were on the come.
And you know what mummy?
Everybody was being really crazy.
Uh huh. The monsters are crazy.
There are monsters outside.)

@@JC-ty6xy I loooove this version, both versions are amazing but unfortunately people keep acting like the two are in a competition as always.
@@disco_depression They're not in competition. My panties are in a bunch because she absolutely butchered it.
While working for a major broadcaster on the production of Live 8 in Hyde Park in July 2005, I spent the entire day setting up, testing, and fixing various things, ready for the live event the next day. It was around 6 p.m., and I made my way across the park to get to the tube station for my journey home. This led me past the main stage. If it had been Saturday, there would have been thousands of people watching the artists, but the day before, only engineers, media people, and security were on site. Right at the moment I came within 30 meters of the stage, Annie walked on stage and started to sing, doing a sound check. As someone accustomed to backstage work, I know the deal: you don't stop and gawp; you treat it as a regular day at the office. Unfortunately for Annie, I became transfixed and stood front and left, unable to move. That voice-it's something I recall with unusual clarity to this day. She fixed me with a long stare, then smiled and sang to me for a very long period; it was almost like she was performing just for me. I recall waving and mimicking someone embarrassed, she waved back and continued the sound check. I've worked with all kinds of artists in the past, often having a drink with them at the end of a gig, so this was entirely out of character and very confusing. I'd had a long chat with Dave Gilmore from Pink Floyd and Robbie Williams a few hours earlier, I don't usually get star-struck. I'm embarrassed to recall just how unprofessional I was, and if anybody in her media team reads this, please pass on my apologies. That 'just for me' performance is something that lives in my memory as vividly as the day it happened. Needless to say, after about fifteen minutes, a big bloke from security moved me on. but It's still one of the most endearing memories of my time working in broadcasting.
Amazing, thank you for sharing. I love special memories like that.

Her voice is such a thing of beauty and will be discovered for many generations after mine.

How quickly a song can take you back to a certain memory, down to who you were with, what they were wearing. I lost my father in 2021 and it was one of the hardest days of my life. I miss him so much and I think about him everyday. My Dad loved all different types of music and this song reminds me of when we used to drive 9 hours to Orlando, FL to go see family during the summer. He had this briefcase that was for holding cassette tapes, and a lot of the time he would ask me to grab him one, but sometimes he would let me choose. I took my cassette tape out of my cassette player and put in Annie Lennox and I remember him looking confused and then he just had a big smile on his face and he laughed. We listened to side A and B of the cassette and just hearing this song today, it brought me right back to that day. Love you and miss you Pops.

National anthem for all of those who have come out on the other side of a really bad relationship, with a person, substance or anything that has stopped you from reaching your natural potential. I salute you, because if it is true that you left pieces of your heart along the way…you are a better person.

Sorry for your loss
No matter what the intent of this song, it had a major impact on me. My mom passed away in 1995. Her lung cancer spread to her brain. Once in her brain it was hard for her to communicate. So the "no more I love you's" and "language is leaving me" lyrics totally captured what I was feeling as my mom's cancer took away her ability to tell me she loved me. I played the song over and over in 1995-96 and cried every time. If I ever got to meet Annie Lennox, I'd thank her for this song. And in case I never get to meet her... Annie Lennox, thank you for this song.

At age 55 I recently rediscovered the Eurythmics and Annie Lennox...and cannot believe I didn't pay attention to what is obviously one of the best voices and talents on the planet. Celebrate you are able to have known classics and the opportunity to "rediscover" them.
Her voice is beyond compare.
Eurythmics are overly familiar on radio stations so I think that why we don't pay enough attention - but like you I'm deep diving into their work and imagery which is so versatile, original, intelligent; the production on Sweet Dreams is from 1983, Miracle of Love doesn't even make it into the Guardian list of their top 30 songs, Annie Lennox vocal range of There Must be an Angel Playing in My Heart - just wow, the female Freddie Mercury
Two years ago, my beloved dog Scooter died, my cat Millie died, my partner of 12 years died of cancer, and my Dad died suddenly -- and I was let go from my job after 18 years. I played this song and the video endlessly - crying like I never cried before. Grieving and sobbing as if the tears would flow forever. "My aching heart would bleed for you to see" I vowed to myself No More "I Love You's". At the time, I thought I would never let myself love again - never, ever say it again. Annie's voice, the song, the video were with me through countless hours of emotional suffering and I thank God for it. I've moved on with my life and I do say "I Love You". This video will be a part of my memorial service when it's time for me to go. I will always, always remember Annie's voice, the song, the visuals that carried me during the worst part of my life. I love you Annie Lennox. Always, Kenny

Thanks - I didn't realise it was a cover! I do find her version more devastatingly moving, personally, though she uses much of the arrangement of the original. She has a knack of choosing great covers, including the equally wonderful Dido's Lament, and Ash's Shining Light (I wasn't a fans of Dave Stewart's songs, except the excellent first single, Sweet Dreams).

Annie Lennox brought me here, I don't care about whatever tv show you watched.
Annie' my heart is with you, we are all born with a nature that is sinful, listen Annie. I was one of the people protecting you from behind the scenes. You know His name.
This song hits right in the heart. A deep nostalgia.
I thought it hits in the lungs 🫁
Absolutely right
I agree.
Indeed.
The best.eurimihs
This song is like wine, the years go by and it's getting better and better... Thank you Annie
Let the video die. Ugh
Exactly
I know! It is a cover of a song from 1986, Annie Lennox took it and made it bloom.
And it makes me realize how today's songs are nowadays. No, it's not just the getting old. Today's songs don't have this level of artistry and vocal performance.
maybe you're just further away from luv.... like me...
Thank you brit marling and zal batmanglij for showing me this song
Great show love Brit
My music taste brought me here.
This IS the 90's for me. Summer time in England. Mum just got a new CD/Radio player for the kitchen. The BBQ was heating up outside...and the radio was up loud through the open window! So much love for Annie Lennox!
Same here
ww
I was thinking that, I have a random memory like probably season 1 where they had a gathering at Tony's house, maybe AJ's birthday or something? I'm gonna look it up now lol
It was! Episode 1 Season 1! Haha! And it was at AJ's birthday party! I knew it was! Season one was filmed in 1997
I'd be honored if some Annie Lennox/80s fans would view my acoustic piano & vocal cover (live, no karaoke) of PRAYING FOR TIME on my channel in tribute to the great GEORGE MICHAEL. As famous as he was, George hasn't gotten his proper due for all the contributions he made to modern music a vocalist, songwriter and producer. But eventually he will get his due. THANK YOU GEORGE. WE LOVE YOU.
I went to see Sting a few years back, and Annie Lennox was opening for him. She hadn't been on stage for some time, (so I was told) and she did this song flawlessly. So much so that Sting came from backstage clapping along with everyone else and hugged her. That truly was a magical music moment I'll never forget.
DIVA!!!!!!!
That would have been a sight to see. Going back on stage after years, if not decades shows considerable strength and determination for any performer. Usually when people reach that age it is because they love it. It was worth the read.
Great story, man. Lucky you!
I wish that I could have witnessed that.
Cool
Good taste in music brought me here. Not a show.

+Chris Maloney take care and stay strong xx
You can feel it in the blood when she says "so many monsters", she's a master of emotional resonance.
She's also a luciferian witch like the rest of the music industry and Hollywood. 🤘👹🤘
I thought i was crazy, turns out im not tje only one
aye indeed, great music, hearing this is reminder of better times at the rosie in doolish nights out drinking playing pool .
@@LyranInjoy yes, feelings are the devil
what does that mean though?
I played this song sooo many times as i got ready to kick my abusive husband out. Thank you Annie
This was the epitome. It never mattered what you looked like on the outside, whatever you presented. If you had the charisma, the power to attract, you had it. We resonate to the kindred spirits within, and recognize the familiarity even if obscured.
This song still haunts me till now...this is a masterpiece
Absolutely 🧡❤💖♥
The only song I could listen to right now
This song has been on repeat in my head for about 6 weeks
its the saddest song but in the same time it gives you hope. amazing
A great song, the video is a head of time men dancing in ballet in 95’
Sometimes a song can instantly transport you back in time. This is one such song.
Same goes for your post ❤
I have wanted a time machine since I was a child 🧒🏻 you pretty much summed it up.
yup
yesss 80 90s were so good very distinctive
Right I wish I was back in the 80s
Thank you, Annie, for reminding me of my sister, who died in 2013, you inspired her in the '80's. In fact all of us.
Listening to Annie's voice makes me think of the first time I visit a fortuneteller's shop with crystal ball, Tarot cards incense, and candles- the works. So full of mystery and surprises and an indescribable beauty.
This song is not about loss of lover or depression. This about going through dementia. Her grand mother. One of the first things to go is ability to express love. As memory leaves, so do the words. " No more I love yous, the language is leaving me in silence, no more I love yous, changes are shifting outside the word."
She didn’t write this song, the original is by the lover speaks and is about how breaking up means you lose the language of love! However I agree when Annie was singing it she’s relating it to dementia x
This reminds me of my Grandmother's 30+yr battle with Alzheimer's. When my Grandfather died her soul shattered and she just left....the light in her eyes was gone. I had watch her rot away slowly it was such a horrible death I would only wish it upon my most hated enemy.
❤
@@hcrossley9365😊
Brilliant, thanks.
"No more I love you's, the language is leaving me in silence" is the the saddest sentence I heard today. I began to cry. 😢
The "language" left me years ago. Those three words cost me everything. I will never speak them in seriousness ever again.
The only/lonely words...don't be a looney
Agreed 👍 I couldn't fathom "No more I love you's"
@@thomasbunner5214 You will speak them again. You just have to find someone worthy of speaking them for.
Desires, despair, desires soo many monsters. I love it! Annie Lennox ❤
This is just one of those amazing songs that is a little bit like a time machine and takes you back to an era of days long passed.
That’s a good way of describing this song ❤
This is one of the greatest vocalists of all time in my humble opinion.
So agree seen her at various festivals hugs and she was the stand out performer. Pure class
Oh yes definitely sir😃😃😃😃
I'm with you on this.
Absofreakinglutely
@@jeremyalexander9761 exactly some groups are just meant to be, that's why their sound was and is still so unique still till this day, once again that's just my humble I love ANNNIE LENNOX opinion.
This reminds me of my dear friend Greg who passed away 4 years ago. He was a huge Annie Lennox fan and this was played at his Funeral. I Miss him so so much. I Will Always Love You Greg 🌈🥰💞
-No More- I Love You -'s- ❤️
Strange I was actually thinking of having this played at my funeral to.
RIP my friend
Did dr Phil tell him too?😭
@v- r-m why would you make a comment like that, loser?
what has happened to music..are there modern equivalents, or is it that these beautiful sounds are from our youth
Before there was Beyonce, Before there was Madonna, There was Annie Lennox trend setter
There's no doubt about it, this woman was good. I love music/songs a bit off the beaten track, and this is one of them.
Getting divorced I write this with tears 😭 in my eyes. You only truly understand the lyrics of a song once you live it.
I'm with you there. I was 13 or 14 when this song was new. After having lived and loved and so secretly losing those loves, this song hits harder and has new meaning.
what a wimp.
Been, seen, done, you should now play the eurythmics...the miracle of love
Joel, my heart goes out to you. I am living again after my 'soul mate' of 24 years left me. The anguish I felt playing the original of this song by The Lover Speaks was indescribable. Now divorced, I am starting to live and love again. You cannot know it now, but so will you.
@@anne-marierattray7830 all the best to you
2021 and don't ask who's still here because we never left.
2021 anyone?
Exactly
forever
I play this very often, my nephews are singing to it
@@Rick-xk6og yup
Bloody brilliant production by Steve Lipson.
Listening from Cape Town
THANKS 90'S FOR SO MUCH MAGIC: ANNIE, ENYA, DOLORES, ALANIS, AND SO MANY MORE JUST AMAZING !!!
Well said my friend
I missed Delores

I'm 41 and remember this song like yesterday. No more I love yous was one of my favorite 90s songs. Thank you for this KZhead.

Same. I am also 41.and a metalhead but these songs just stick. Lol.
i'm 41 too and this spng liked me since 1995
Remember when this was just outrageous humor? But now we can't laugh at it anymore.
Não se fazem músicas perfeita como essa. Assistindo em 08/11/2023 voltando no tempo❤
um clássico de 1995

I used to feel uneasy watching & listening to this MV during my childhood but as I've grown older, I now appreciate the artistic masterpiece she aimed to convey.
A verdade é que dizem que a história por trás da letra, é bem desconfortável...
Ya it was kinda wierd at the time
