The song is about a book, the synopsis is a poor flower girl that discovered a rare flower in the garden of a always hidden master. He hides because of his 'ugliness'. However, he falls inlove with her and replants the garden so that she can steal everyday. After a while she stops coming and he pines for her. He does not know that she actually got sick and died. He finds out later and regrets not ever speaking to her, hence the song and book. It is also a metaphor for the relationship between an idol and their fans, holding a idealistic mask but never able to show their true selves. Even as realistic as BTS is to everyone, as SUGA says, we really only see about 50% of what they go through. You really should watch this live performance. BTS sounds even better live than studio.
This song has a connection to the two conceptual lines of BTS, both to the Bangtan Universe BU and to the theories of Jungian Psychology that they have been developing since 2015. The song makes a direct reference to Italian folklore - “La Citta di Smeraldo”. The story describes a man who is said to be “ugly” and lives in a castle all by himself. He is an illegitimate child of a duke and therefore, was the victim of the hate of the Duke’s wife and her children. Just like in Beauty and the Beast a young girl steals flowers from his majestic garden in order to make the ends meet. When he first sees the missing flowers, he becomes quite displeased and attempts to capture the thief. However, when he finds that it was a young girl, he disguises himself and looks for her. Subsequently, he realizes the truth and the dire situation of the girl. He then decides to introduce himself as well as to help her by creating an expensive flower. During this period, he unconsciously starts expecting her visits and gradually becomes attached to her. After a long-time, he successfully creates the most beautiful blue flower called “Smeraldo” (Emerald) and notices that she is no longer visiting his garden. He then learns about her unfortunate death and becomes agitated. It is said that he spends the rest of his life in despair and misery, contemplating whether her life could have been saved if he was able to face her. The moral of the story, as interpreted by BTS, is that people are entrapped in the depths of misery and darkness due to the lack of self-love and confidence. The protagonist would have probably felt much better, had he talked to her and confronted his fears and insecurities. In addition, another aspect is that the way people are affected by childhood trauma and dysfunctional families. I think it’s important to recognise that although it draws heavily on themes from European folklore, the fable incorporated in the song is not actually ancient. ‘La Citta di Smeraldo’ was written mainly by Bang, IIRC, as backstory for this song and for the BU.

Because this is vocal line song you could react to rap line song next. Outro: Tear is also really meaningful song from same album as The truth untold. It was written by Suga. Lyrics of this song are about their almost-disbandment and it's from 2018 when they were really struggling with pressure and stress. Suga by himself said: 'The lyrics for “Tear” were written for the members. When I was writing the melody, at the time, we were deeply contemplating whether we should quit or not. When I played the song for the members, we all cried together.' So that's my request 😊

The Truth Untold is my favourite Vocal line song. Such a gorgeous ballad. The depth of the lyrics (may we just take a moment to appreciate RM's poetry? This song is sung by the vocal line (Jk, Jimin,V and Jin). This song is so sad yet beautiful and poetic at the same time. This is one of the BTS songs that makes me cry when ever u hear it, also you can clearly hear how emotional the song is by just hearing their voices, this may sound a bit weird but this song is one of my many comfort songs bybthe lads
Every single time I listen to this song I cry. The vocal line of BTS are 4 unique and insanely talented men that somehow infuse every note with the pain and heartache of these words, but sound so beautiful doing it, it is just too bittersweet. Please react to the back to back live versions of "Dimple" and "Pied Piper" and V's solo songs of "Singularity" and "Stigma" - he will give you goosebumps guaranteed. Further Jimin's solo "Serendipity", Jungkook's "Still with you", Jin's "Awake" (LYRICS!!) and one of their best songs, "Butterfly". You'll be busy for a while. Isn't this so trippy? I've been a fan for so many years and I am still getting shocked, awed and thrilled.
Also, Jimin's "Lie" That song is genius.

It's hauntingly beautiful. Tae's voice starting it off is like a warm hug from someone you love. Oh, this isn't technically part of their storyline, I saw someone else already explained the meaning of this song so I won't, but the smeraldo flower is also in their storyline. That's pretty much it tho. You should react to house of cards live for sure, you can watch lyrics also but both of these songs deserve to be heard live. Jk scats in it and it's sooo cool. (Scat is a type of vocal improvisation in some jazz music, I'm tired that's the best I can do for explanation rn sry, hopefully you already know what it is) both of these songs need to be heard live for the raw emotion in their voices. 💜

I actually cried listening to this song again. Used to be a huge fan of these guys a couple years back, but I mellowed down a bit now, so I haven’t listened to them much recently. But gosh, seeing this pop up on my feed, I couldn’t help clicking on it. I recently went through a break up, and gosh this is exactly how I felt with that person before we broke up, it was just so spot on accurate I cried. I forgot the beauty of these songs

It's actually based on a story/legend in Northern Italy about the flower Smeraldo. It tells a story of a man who considers himself so physically ugly and mortifying, and secluded himself in his castle with just his garden to keep him company. He fell in love with a girl who stole flowers from his garden. He couldnt bring himself to show her his face because of his insecurities so he planted more Smeraldo flowers so she would continue coming and he would watch her from the castle. One day she stopped and he learned that she had died. She died without learning who he was and of his love for her. "And I still want you..." This line hits so differently when you learn of the story of this song. It's about the fear of opening up to another person and revealing your true self for the fear of being left because of it so you seclude yourself and push everyone away as if loneliness is your punishment for being "ugly." Sorry for the long comment. This song just truly gets to me every single time.

i love how youre open to try something you used to not like, and as a kpop stan i love seeing people react to bts for the first time (even tho im not an army) but i would really like to see you react to other kpop groups as stray kids, tommorow x together, Ateez, ect. since most non kpop fans see bts as kpop in general (which is very wrong) every group is very different and i would love to see you react to more, and 4th gen groups (in short there are different generations of kpop 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen and 4th gen. the generations are all very different, and a new generation is made [after a few years] when there is a turn in how kpop sounds and is) since bts is 3rd gen i have some 4th gen suggestions! : !4TH GEN SUGGESTIONS! (mostly rap/loud music) ALL HAVE A MV gods menu by straykids (biggest 4th gen boy group song) its very experimental and goes under loud music, but everything fits so well together rlly a good song. 0x1=lovesong by tommorow x together, the song and music video are just amazing tho the music video can/might be confusing if you dont know the storyline behind it (feel free to ask). geurilla by Ateez, it depends very much on the person if u like this song but if you like rap, highnotes, loud music, i def reccomend this one. easy by straykids, very much a rap song (changbin devoured *main rapper*) just amazing LO$ER=LOVER by tommorow x together (in short txt) rock. backdoor by straykids, honestly it has everything in this song. theres rap, vocals, amazing choreo, different instrumentals, its everything rlly (also imo a very safe 4th gen song to show to a non kpop fan) sugar rush ride by txt (their newest comeback) it has alot of different points, different emotions, feelings, everything. really good and has very good visuals MIROH by straykids, this is one of their earlier songs but it never fails to make me go crazy. its so energetic, has crazy raps, crazy choreo (especially miroh kingsom ver if anyone remembers that) its such a good party song if kpop was normalised and last we have thunderous by stray kids (i know i put alot of straykids but i really think you would like them) its such a powerfull song and it goes so hard, the mv, the rap, the editing, the vocals, the choreo, genuinly everything is amazing about this song, deffo took a turn in 4th gen after this one i have alot more songs to reccomend (just lmk cuz i can go on forever) but these are just the main ones, after these you can start digging into 4th gen a bit more (im sorry if there are any grammar mistakes or spelling mistakes, english is my 3rd language) i hope you read this, and to anyone who read this hope you have an amazing day ^^

The story behind The Truth Untold is called ‘La Città di Smeraldo’ {the emerald city}, which takes place in a small town in Italy in the 16th century. summary of a story about a man who has isolated himself in an ancient castle due to past cruelty and only loved to plant flowers in his garden. When a woman stole his flowers to sell in town, he started to become interested in her and continued to grow flowers for her to steal. He wanted to create a new flower, the Smeraldo, for her to sell at a high price, but she passed away before he could give it to her.

This is one song in the treasure trove of B-sides that BTS has. Title tracks are excellent but the B-sides can be just as good.

You didn't have enough information to figure it out, because it is connected to the story in the Bangtan Universe, and I'm sure that ARMY gave you the information about the creation of the Smeraldo flower (a fictional blue and white flower) and how the story relates to events in the BU I hope to see you react to one of their live performances in the future!

I remember when BTS dropped Love Yourself: Tear album and when I played this song I just knew it was the most beautiful song I ever heard. The next day I went to university and I was in the washroom and the girl in the stall next to me was singing really loudly "AND I STILL WANT YOU~~" and I remember saying ARMY? and she replied back ARMY! XD
