There are aspiring athletes who train hard overcoming mental, emotional, physical obstacles..for the honor to be there compete for their county. That’s why it’s called competition of the strongest.

  • When she said she just wanted to sleep all the time and not wanting to deal with it. Thats when you are in real serious depression. You wake up each time wishing you didn't. So many ppl put her down for quitting, they obviously never have been in that situation. Its an extremely dark lonely world when you are like that, mental health and suicide is a very serious matter. All my prayers and wishes for Simone and her health. You are awesome and you made it girl, you fulfilled your dreams and all your medals. You set the bar. Literally. It's likely some PTSD crept in during the Olympics bc he was around last Olympics and the body remembers abuse, even if the mind tries to shut it out. Then this disconnect occurred in the form of twisties which happens to gymnasts but has never happened to her in competition... her mind is telling her to stop and the only way to do that is to disconnect from her body like this. Right now, PHYSICALLY, Biles could EASILY do acrobats NO OTHER woman gymnast could do... but mentally, she is not in an appropriate place to EXECUTE acrobats she has done in better times. If mentally she's not healthy, as she said, when she's coming down from many feet in the air, twisting & flinpping, she could end up on her head... be it UB, BB, V, or FX... because her technical difficulties are so much higher than all other gymnasts...

    • @Xtra Cheese How many feet above the ground, somersaulting and twisting in the air, was this fight? Simone is battling “the twisties” which means she struggles to find her place in the air. If she misjudges her place in the air too badly, she could die. Also, this is why we have alternates, just in case something goes wrong, there is another gymnast available to compete. We won a team silver, Suni Lee has the all-around gold, and we have a gymnast in every event final. Our female gymnastics medal count is fine. Simone is not. You don’t get to choose when your brain decides to behave abnormally. You don’t get to choose when it chooses to turn your world upside down. I have never heard of your cage fighter, the whole freaking media watching world knows who Simone is. The expectations of your cage fighter are not nearly the same as the expectations of Simone going into the Olympics. That is enough to cause anyone’s brain to start swirling, even a GOAT’s brain.

Serious depression where I slept 17-18 hrs aday and got to a point where I physically couldn't even walk crawling to the bathroom and back to bed. I think the people in the U.S. have gotten used to you always being the best and the gold medal winner all of the time. Myself included to my own shame and I'm so sorry I was looking at it that way. I had heard vaguely about sexual abuse in women's gymnastics but didn't realize the real truth about to extent of it and so many females involved. You have really educated me and you have not only my sympathy and empathy but also (and probably even more important) my greatest and utmost respect for you deciding to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics this year. I am so proud of the whole team and all you have accomplished at this Olympics and especially proud of your cheering everyone else on in competition. Your bronze medal for balance beam is fantastic. To even come back at all with everything you were going through is phenomenal. Be proud of yourself and your teammates. And ignore the dissenters and haters. All you girls have worked so hard for this and I for one am very VERY proud of All of you. You have made America proud. Know that. Receive that. And embrace that!!! And Simone I've seen your boyfriend and he is beautiful. Maybe someday we will see you happily married and living your Best life. You deserve it. Every one of you are heroes and champions. • It didn't surprise me what had happened to Simone this year at the Olympics. Given everything that has come out since Rio and abuse with these young ladies went through with Nasser, I knew it was a matter of time. Simone at the time that the abuse came was not ready to admit let alone deal with it. And when you go through that type of trauma anything and I do mean anything, can trigger a flashback or horrible memory of that abuse. Which during this type of events you lose your focus. Especially when you bury it and you're not ready to deal with it. You push yourself harder you want to forget, you don't want to admit to it. The problem with that is that the problem still remains and will still remain until you face it and deal with it. In between going through that type of trauma from the abuse and the championships and the Olympics this year along with covid-19 quite frankly I'm surprised she's sane. You don't have to like her you don't have to agree with her. However I do respect her from making the correct decision to stand down so she didn't harm herself physically or anybody else during the olympics.✌️

You lose yourself for a second out there and you become a JUlissa Gomez, Elena Mukhina, Melanie Coleman or tear your ligaments like Kerry Strugg denying you any chance to continue a major career with performances and coaching while still physically able. Instead it was deciding whether or not if you were going to end your life or career by refusing to acknowledge twisties has you across the beams with a steam roller. IF she had continued in poor performance or actually died on bars how well do you think the rest of her teammates would have continued to perform? We feed off each other and the crowd (oh wait no one there either) On top of that surrounded by the same coaches and USAGOC who gaslighted the girls about abuse and calling them liars for over a decade? Wow. When you guys can pull an aerial off on a beam 4 inches across... we will talk.

All of your nonsense is based on poor understanding of the sport, conjecture and bitterness over a gymnast choosing her life over a fracking gold medal that could cause her death like Julissa Gomez, Melanie Coleman or Elena Mukhina. Again, how many aerials have you done while on the beam? As for your account being 2 days old... that speaks volumes dear all on its own.

  • Read the full comment. Don’t just comment on the part you disagree with. Both sides became too hyperbolic about this situation. I understand the criticism for withdrawing during the team final. That’s a timing issue. We can debate that. The ‘twisties’ thing sounds like a physical issue that throws off your timing and air sense when it comes to tumbling and things like that. The narrative that arose round her was terrible. If you watched the trials, it went something like ‘She’s so good that she can only compete against herself.’ That’s too much pressure, especially if she performs subpar. Lastly, the Nassar part of this. What he did was the most salacious part of it, but the Karolyis used abusive training methods dating back to when they coached in Romania 🇷🇴. The overall environment was abusive- perfect for a guy like Nassar to hide in plain sight. I wouldn’t be surprised if her coaches said she should withdraw so they don’t get a reputation for abusive training. That’s actually good. It shows a culture change.

    • What twisties is like if on uneven bars... Imagine a routine you have done your whole life. Something you have done in your sleep, seen in your minds eye a thousand times a month... you know this. Imagine that extra pressure on my left hand coming up from the low bar which causes enough torque and rotation in 1/2 a second for me to change directional position during the transition to high bar to get ready for the giant swing. Normally it takes only 1 second to let go of a bar and to be ready to catch the next! But instead: (that whole second is lost. You notice all of a sudden you are in air, you feel like a robot, unable to move for one split second because you already know you have lost time. *bar smacks into face or body* THUNK - *splat* ) That bar or floor mind you is coming with the force of twice your weight considering when your mind has decided to take a brain fuzz on you without any effing prior notice!!! • @@Raven-ll9lm It sounds to me like what some Darts players are having from time to time. At some point they want to throw a dart but they just hold on to it, breaking off the throw at the last moment. I've seen that happen to my cousin and even to some of the great players. Some take years to get over it and afterwards they're never the same again. In any case cindy wiegand is making some good points with what she said. I admit that even i was like "why is she pulling out now ?", but even i , though i was only an amateur in playing Darts sometimes felt the pressure when i was "in the zone" as we call it , when everything seems to be going just the way you want it and you want more of that. Alas with me it was'nt mental pressure that cut it short but a shoulder injury, and afterwards i never was that good anymore, wich of course also does something to one's mind. So i have to admit that i sympathise a bit with her now after watching this and reading Cindy Wiegands comment. I just hope that Simone pulls through and does'nt mind the media too much.
